Work Text:
Tim begins his day the way he always does, stopping at his favorite coffee shop that Lucy had begged him to try back when she was still his boot. The same coffee shop he continued to go to every single morning well after she graduated from being a rookie to P2. Also the same coffee shop he currently continues to be in attendance of after their painful breakup, but surprisingly something just happens to be different today at the very calm coffee shop and the difference just happened to be Lucy was inside of the coffee shop.
Tim hurriedly parked his truck so he could make his way to talk to Lucy for only the 4th time since their break up two months ago, yes he understands it will be awkward, though one thing he doesn't understand is what he is going to say to her once he's standing in front of her looking at her perfectly rounded full lightly rose colored lips that he so does miss, standing there looking at her amazingly sculpted curves, standing there in front of the love of his life that he didn't give a choice regarding their separation looking at her gorgeous dulcet beautiful brown eyes. He completely stops thinking about what he was going to say and is now thinking about how should he react to the fact that this angelic woman he used to call his and come home to is presently talking to a guy that to the naked eye seems to be around Lucy's age possibly a tad bit younger whom is wrapping his arm around Lucy’s waist and kissing her on the cheek like they might be together and then but just then it clicks..
THEY ARE TOGETHER!!??!
He completely disregards the known fact he needs coffee in the morning to not be irritated, angry, annoyed, and pissed off the whole entire day and turns on his heels and walks back to his truck, gets in, and hits the highway to go to work. He arrives at the station shortly after since he acted like there was a fire and spent more than half of the drive speeding to get here. He walks inside of the stations and quickly scans over the bullpen for the only woman he can talk to in times like this, Angela Lopez-Evers. He spots her and makes a fast-paced walk over to get to the locality Angela was in so they could have a specific conversation about what Tim just saw.
“Angela’ Tim says as if he’s out of breath ‘We need to talk. ASAP.”
Tim and Angela exchange looks and almost remotely move to go to a more private area to have this awaited conversation.
“What's wrong?” Angela answered, Tim just gazes at her like he really doesn't want to elaborate what happened because it's going to hurt even though he needs to. “I saw Lucy at the coffee shop on 71st this morning.” Angela searches for why that is a bad thing in his appearance but doesn't find anything that is revealing the true answer “..and why is that a bad thing? Did you guys talk? Was it awkward?” Tim drops his view and looks at his hands that have been fiddling together ever since he began talking about the situation “No. We didn't talk. I didn't even make it inside because’ he silences for one moment trying to push out these next few words ‘because she was with somebody. She has a boyfriend. They were so close and comfortable looking, and he looked so close to her age." he sits down on the cushioned seated stool and leans over laying his elbows on her knees placing his face in his palms trying to not let the emotion covering his face show. “Oh Tim..” Angela sympathizes for her best friend who is clearly hurting from this surprise he discovered.
“I don't understand why I'm upset when I'm the one who didn't give her a choice as to whether or not we broke up.”
He stands up, brushing off Angela’s hands around him, wipes his tears and then gratefully thanks Angela for letting him talk to her. He walks out of the old unoccupied office and waits in the bullpen till roll call starts. Fellow officers swiftly swarm in and talk with coworkers like they normally do every morning till Grey joins them. Tim watches Lucy walk all the way from out the women's locker room door to the briefing room where he is. Right when she hits those doors of the briefing room is when she looks at him with those eyes.
Those damn eyes are what get him, and just when he’s about to look away she starts walking towards him and he thinks he's dreaming for sure but nope this is definitely real, she's walking towards him and they are both still maintaining that eye contact like if one of them drops it they'll stop breathing forever even though when he does look at her he feels like he can’t then either. She stops in front of him and when she speaks is when he breaks out of his daydream and realizes she's had coffee in her hand the whole entire time.
“Here I got you a coffee!” Lucy says in her voice that he hasn't heard since she was his bubbly apricity boot. “I already got one, thanks though” he tries to say in a careless tone even though he cares an ungodly amount. “No you didn't,’ she says, still holding the coffee out ‘at least not from our coffee shop, and I know that because I asked Earl if you've been by yet.” She says matter of factly while he stands there just dumbfounded by the fact first of all she said “our coffee shop” second of all the fact she asked if I had been by even when she was with her boyfriend, oh yeah ‘her boyfriend’ she has a boyfriend why is she getting coffee for her ex especially when she's accompanying him. I reach out and grab the coffee “Thank you. You didn't have to get me a coffee. I know you were busy.” he says but almost immediately regrets his choice of words because how in the world would he know if she was busy or not “How did you know i was busy?” she says in a kind of playful tone but also in a way where she wants an answer, now.
Grey walks in and everyone starts finding their seats but Lucy stays beside Tim because she wants her answer. “I saw you.” Tim says and then tracks Grey with his eyes practically counting down the seconds till Grey calls out Lucy. “Chen! Would you like to take my spot today or do you want to sit down?” Grey says fiercely and Lucy instantly apologies by saying “Sorry, Sir.” and walks with speed towards her seat.
Role call was dismissed fairly quickly due to the reason no major cases were going on that needed the majority of the force on their side right off the bat. Tim hurried to get on patrol since he literally just confessed he saw his ex-girlfriend having a mildly romantic moment with a guy, a younger guy. Tim can’t get over the detected age of this guy Lucy is seeing, especially when she used to tell him how she prefers him and his age over anyone else. Though then again he was the one who ended their whole relationship without letting Lucy have a say in the decision.
He’s instantaneously taken out of his thoughts when he surveils Lucy out of his peripheral vision, and begins to walk off briskly to avoid the interaction at least till later but he was abruptly stopped by the hand of Lucy Chen grabbing his forearm making him turn around and look at her and remove his arm from her grip.
“You don’t get to try and ignore me after saying something like that.” Lucy instructed
I’m left slightly stunned but I swiftly gathered myself, because then again it is Lucy Chen we are talking about. The Lucy Chen that almost always says what she's thinking towards me no matter the setting. The Lucy Chen that's slowly loosening her grip on my arm. Also the Lucy Chen that is looking in my eyes so intently like she just wants to take me into an unused office and let her imagination wander.
“Lucy, I'm not doing this right now love” I vowed with purpose on the last pronounced word.
Lucy looks up at me through her eyelashes and scoffs. She turns to examine our surroundings, finding there is a way to great number of fellow officers and others around us to continue this conversation in the windows for the walls room where they receive information they need regarding their shift every single morning. The same room that Tim stands in front of every morning with his perfectly toned body that no one else will know looks like completely naked but her, and she'll make sure of that even if it costs her position at this station.
“We can just talk about this later” Lucy settled with.
“Thank you, but I will need my arm to move anywhere.” I look down at my arm waiting for her to let go knowing as soon as she does I'm going to miss that slight contact she was giving me.
“Oh yeah, sorry.” she says with a slight flustered awkward smile. A smile that gives me hope. If I can still give her butterflies that make her blush maybe she'd take me back. She steps back like she can hear my thoughts and moves around me more than likely making her way to start patrol just like I should be doing.
