Chapter Text
The first time Oscar met Logan was by accident, by fate, by design, whatever you want to call it. Austin was cruel to him, and Oscar just needed to forget, needed a minute or a day, so that’s what he does. He takes a day for himself, rents a car, promises his team to meet them the following day for their next race, and takes off from their hotel as soon as he finishes packing. It takes him about an hour to get used to driving on the right side of the road, he settles into a rhythm, and off he goes into the Texas night. It started to storm a few hours into his drive, but Oscar tried to drive through it, then his phone lost signal and he may or may not have taken a few wrong turns– his luck turned from bad to worse when in the middle of nowhere Texas alone on the road he heard a loud pop and his rental car skids off the wet road into a ditch. Oscar is usually calm. He usually doesn’t let his anger get a hold of him but that day he had had enough, after grabbing a duffle bag from the car and giving the car a good kick, he took off in the rain towards the only light source he saw. The stranger was nice,he spoke with a hint of the stereotypical American country accent, and he was young– somewhere around Oscar’s age. It was late when Oscar knocked on his door and the stranger opened it with no shirt on and sweatpants hanging low on his hips, Oscar very impolitely stared at him for a long while. His name was Logan, Logan Sargeant.
Oscar knew he should have been wary of the good-looking stranger in the small Texas town, but Logan was kind andLogan gave him a bed to sleep in and fed him. He helped pull Oscar's rental car out of the ditch and gave Oscar a tour of his farm. Oscar found the man quite odd. He was 22 living alone on a farm, he didn’t own anything besides a disconnected house phone, he didn’t own a TV but had a room dedicated to maybe a hundred books, and he talked to his animals– each and every one of them had a name. After lunch Logan promised to take Oscar up to town so he could call his team to let them know that he would be late for their meeting, then he fixed up Oscar’s rental car so he could drive home the next day.
Logan didn’t know who Oscar was and Oscar was perfectly content with that, he liked that his new friend didn’t already have a pre-perceived idea of Oscar in his head– he liked getting to know his new friend that way, Oscar talked about racing and Australia, and Logan talked about the animals and his small town of 300 who became his family after he moved here at 18. Logan showed him the creek a little ways behind his property, he taught Oscar how to ride a horse and showed Oscar around his farm. Then later that night, Logan showed him the stars, and Oscar became addicted, he left with a heavy heart, he wanted more– more of Logan, more of his peaceful quiet world.
When Oscar gets back to civilization with the help of the hand-drawn map that Logan made him he buys a phone and sends it to Logan, with a note inside–
‘My number is already saved here, I’ll pay the bills… Please message me when you can.
- Oscar,’
It takes Logan 3 days to text him.
They talk about everything and anything, the weather, Oscar’s races, Logan’s animals, they’re always short, a few words back and forth and Oscar can’t seem to get enough, he’s addicted to talking to Logan.
Brazil GP
Logan: Abbie is going to pop soon, I’m staying in the barn tonight in case she goes into labor
Logan: where are you now, how is it there?
Oscar: Brazil. the rain just stopped, perfect time to start our practice session
Oscar: Have any name for the new baby in mind?
Logan: no, not yet.
Logan: Should I name him after you if it’s a boy?
Oscar: that’d be an honor, send me some pictures of baby Oscar
Oscar: how about Nicole for a girl, that’s my mum’s name.
Logan: Good luck, would you like me to update you on Abbie?
Oscar: Of course. And Thank you, Lo!
Nov 7
Oscar: I finished 14th yesterday, not a race I want to remember.
Oscar: How’s Abbie?

Logan: [attached is a photo of a baby horse with chestnut brown fur sleeping on a pile of hay]
Oscar: oh, I’m so glad!!
Logan: I drove into town for supplies and brought a book about Formula One. I want to understand what you do a little better.
Logan: Can I text you if I have questions?
Oscar: Of course.
Oscar: I have to go! bye, Logan.

Logan could still be a serial killer, a very patient serial killer who uses his good looks and kind words to lure him in, but Oscar wanted more– he needed more, so he went back. Bag in hand he emerges from his gate and spots Logan searching for him, Oscar didn’t realize how much he missed Logan until the American was standing in front of him. His cowboy boots echo on the tile floor of the Dallas airport floor, and his muscles flex against his t-shirt when he takes Oscar’s bag from him. He drives the same old beaten pickup truck from a few weeks back, it creaks and groans as they pull out onto the road but it gets them there, Poppy, Logan’s German shepherd, sits at his feet and Oscar gives her lots of pets as they set out to Logan’s home.
Other than Oscar, the newborn horse, there are a few more additions to the farm since Oscar was last here. The air was crispy with speedy winds, so they stayed mostly inside for his stay there. Logan made them a small fire on one of the calmer days, and they made smores and roasted marshmallows. They took walks and hikes, Oscar helped his friend with his animals, and they looked at the stars and they talked about racing. Life was simple with Logan, time ticked by slowly here, a contrast to his life away from this place, away from Logan, he lives life on the fast lane, he drives fast cars for a living, but with Logan things are different, Logan seems to have the magical ability to slow down time.
On the third night Oscar lets his heart take over and kisses Logan, he half hopes but is pleasantly surprised when Logan kisses him back. He invites Logan to come to Vegas but the man declines, the drive back to Dallas is quiet but not awkward, they both seem to be lost in their heads.
Logan doesn’t text him, so after 3 days Oscar breaks down and texts him first.
Las Vegas GP
Oscar: Are you alright?
Oscar: was it something I did?
Logan: Had a few things to think about
Logan: Sorry I made you worry, good luck in Vegas.
Oscar: Can I ask why you didn’t want to come to my race?
Logan: Poppy misses you I think, she’s been lying on your bed a lot.
Oscar: Logan, are you avoiding the question?
Logan: I think I miss you too.
Abu Dhabi GP
Oscar: Just landed, heading to the track soon.
Logan: Good luck, last race of the season right?
Logan: Call me when you can? I wanna hear your voice.
Oscar: Yepp, last race.
Oscar: I’ll call when I get back to the hotel, but wouldn’t it be too late for you there?
Logan: I don’t care.
Oscar: Just say you miss me, Sargeant.
Logan: I miss you Piastri.
—-------------
Logan: How was the race?
Oscar: Finished 6th, not too bad.
Logan: Congratulations Oscar!
Oscar: It’s winter break soon,
‘Oscar: Can I maybe come visit you again?
Logan: My door is always open for you Oscar.
Oscar: After New Year's sounds ok?
Logan: It sounds perfect.
His family questions his decision to leave Australia after New Year, they assume he’s going back to Monaco for training camp but he doesn’t correct them, he flies to Dallas again, and again Logan and Poppy are there waiting. Something feels different between them, they fall into a comfortable silence as they drive on. When they make it out of the city he lets Logan’s hand rest gently on his thigh, and he watches the American eyes stay on the road, he’s humming along to whatever song is playing on the radio and his blonde hair is getting long as the wind blows through it. It is the most beautiful sight Oscar has ever seen.
Logan had opened up to him a bit more, he explained that he was kicked out by his father at 18 when he came out to his family as gay, his mother and older brother gave him some money to stay afloat so he bought the farm off a dying man who coincidentally was also a gay man who moved to this small town to escape his life. The people in the town are a lot more accepting than Logan had expected, they took him in, helped him figure out the logistics of running a farm on his own, and they became somewhat of a family to him. Logan has lost contact with the outside world and his family for nearly 4 years now, he explains that he has no desire to leave, he has the members of his small town, and his animals.
“And I know we’ve just met, but I really like you, and I feel like I have you now too,” Logan said, as they were sitting on a rock, feet dipping into the cold January creek, hands intertwined. “I have everything I ever need right here.” He grinned wide and beautiful and Oscar had no choice but to pull Logan in for a kiss.
“So you’d be okay with being my secret?” Oscar asks, they walk hand in hand into the woods, Poppy running ahead of them fetching a stick Oscar had just thrown.
“Yeah, I think I’d like to be your secret.” Logan answers, earnest and sincere and Oscar smiles so wide his cheeks hurt. “Would you be okay with never meeting my family?”
“Who said I haven’t?” He takes the stick from Poppy's mouth and throws it again, “I’ve met Poppy, Abbie, and little Oscar, Claire, Timmy, and Winny.” he continues, “And your neighbors, and the people who take care of you. I think I’ve met your family, don’t you?” Logan goes quiet for a few seconds before pulling him into a hug, he whispers a soft thank you into his ear and Oscar lets Logan hold him for a while until Poppy barks for their attention.

Logan becomes Oscar’s secret, something he gets to keep for himself. Every break between racing, every few spare minutes he has he gives to Logan, they make it work, the race car driver and the farmer, it sounds like a story from a romcom. He goes back again after China, and again he invites Logan to come with him to Miami but the mere mention of Florida seems to put Logan on edge so Oscar doesn’t push. They drive to the nearest city to buy Logan a TV, and he signs him up for a few sporting channels so Logan can watch him live, he also buys a disposable camera and uses half of the film on Logan and the other half with selfies he hopes didn’t come out too badly. Logan gets the photos developed and blushes at the outcome of them, there’s a few of Logan working or driving, there’s a few of him just mewing around the house, but there’s also a few of him naked, Oscar can’t help but laugh at his boyfriend blushing face as they go through the photos. Oscar’s favorite one is one he took moments before sex, Logan on his back on the bed, Oscar straddling him the photo was shot from above– it’s a nice black and white picture, Logan was shirtless and Oscar’s thighs can be seen at the edge of the photo with Logan’s hands covering half of them. He wasn’t looking at the camera, no, he was looking at something behind it, someone– he was looking at Oscar. He makes it his home screen.
There’s one photo of Oscar, he didn’t know was taken until after they got the pictures back, it was Oscar with Poppy, he was laughing as he held the overgrown pup in his arms, they both look content and happy and Oscar thinks it’s the best photo of him anyone has ever taken. He uploaded it on Instagram a few days after he made it to the podium of the Miami Grand Prix. He goes back to Texas after the Grand Prix ends, and they rewatch the race together with Oscar explaining everything to him. Oscar experiences his first tornado here, it scares him at first but Logan’s strong arms around him make him feel a lot better.
Italian GP (Imola)
Logan: Great driving today,
Logan: It’s amazing watching you race
Oscar: Thanks Lo,
Oscar: You know I do good cause you’re cheering me on right
Logan: don’t give me all the credit, you’re a great Formula 1 driver!!
Monaco GP
Logan: I think the neighbor’s dog knocked up Poppy.
Logan: Oh, my sweet girl :((
Oscar: Logan, she’s all grown up. You have to let her live her life.
Logan: But she’s my baby,
Logan: I’m taking her to the vet for a check-up
Oscar: Let me know how it goes,
Oscar: give Poppy lots of kisses for me!!
Logan: We both miss you Osc!
Logan: [Attached is a video of Poppy laying on Oscar’s side of their bed, she’s barking at the camera, tail wagging. In the video Logan’s voice can be heard off camera asking the pup ‘Do you miss papa too Poppy?’]

Logan: False alarm! She’s not pregnant, just gained some weight

He doesn’t see Logan again until after Canada, but like every time before Logan and Poppy are there, waiting like usual. He had Poppy on his lap and Logan occupying one of his hands all the way home, it was the first time he referred to Logan’s place as home . Oscar's life is different here, with Logan and Poppy and the farm animals, he gets to be more of himself. He has a different life, a simple one and he could already see it in his head, retiring after he wins at least one world championship, moving to Texas, and marrying Logan. Maybe adopt a few children, take care of the farm, maybe invite Lando and Fred and Zhou for a visit someday, Oscar can feel it in the air, a future he could hold on to, a future he wants to make with Logan.
“I’m Poppy’s papa?” he asks one day, remembering the video Logan sent from a few weeks back.
“Is that okay? I’m her dad, so I thought you could be her papa” Oscar gives Poppy’s head a few kisses as he hides the blush on his cheeks.

At the end of July, after Belgium, Oscar goes home to Logan with a first-place Pirelli hat as a souvenir for his boyfriend. Logan has something for him as well, a ring looped into a stainless steel necklace made from the metal of his favorite belt buckle that he commissioned someone in town to make for him, inside was inscribed the address of Logan’s farm.
“Even if you’re not here you’ll always have a piece of home with you,” he put the necklace around Oscar’s neck, the length was just right, the ring resting in between his sternum where his heart beats. “And this way you can hide it if you want to”

August comes and goes, Zandvoort and Monza weren’t bad but they could have been better. They get into their first-ever fight at the end of August– Oscar is tired of the constant flying so he asks if Logan could come visit him in Monaco instead. His boyfriend quickly declines, too quick for his liking,
“You didn’t even think about it,” he spoke into the phone, “and what are you so scared of anyway? You refuse to go anywhere further than Dallas”
“You know I want to see you, Oscar. More than anything in the world,” his voice was soft and remorseful, and Oscar’s heart broke just a little. But his heart was hurting for himself too,
“Well, then act like it. It’s starting to feel like I’m the only one putting any effort into this relationship, Logan.”
“Osc,” it takes everything in him to not break into sobs with Logan sounding so defeated,
“No! Don’t Osc me, Something’s keeping you in Texas, what is it? What is so important to you that you won’t even think about leaving Texas for a few days for me?” He doesn’t wait for a response, he hangs up before he says something he’ll regret later on.
Logan calls back a few days later to apologize, he explains– his voice quivering like it’s going to break at any moment, “Remember when I told you my dad kicked me out? Yeah, he made me promise to disappear, he doesn’t want to see me ever again so I did, I don’t have social media, I don’t have a passport, I don’t go into the big city, he has friends in high places, I’m afraid that if I show my face somewhere he has influence he’ll find me. I don’t care what he does to me but I would never be able to live with myself if he does something to you too” Oscar shows up crying at Logan’s doorstep a few days later, Logan wraps him up in his arms holds him close and whisper sweet nothings into his ear, it’s okay , he promises, it’s going to alright – Oscar believes him.
He had promised to let it go, Logan was happy– is happy, he didn’t need anything more but the conversation sparked something in Oscar, his boyfriend hadn’t talked to his mother and brother in years, and he had to start a new life by himself at 18 and as happy as he sounds when he talks about his farm, his animals, and the people in his town Logan has admitted to him that he is lonely at times. He watches Logan’s sleeping form, his boyfriend curls up with Poppy on the floor next to him, Oscar makes a decision then, he needs to know more about Logan’s family, he needs all the leverage he can get to protect Logan.
“I need a PI,” his manager scoffed, “Mark, I know your boyfriend knows people. Get me a Private Investigator”
They left it all at that, and everything goes back to a somewhat normal rhythm, Oscar goes back and forth between Texas and racing– it gets exhausting at times but the smile Logan has on his face when he sees Oscar emerge from his gate is something truly energizing, and the way Poppy wags her tail and bark up a storm as she throws herself onto Oscar for cuddles, she’s just like her dad who despite being human get just as excited, it’s all worth it. They continue to watch races together, Oscar helps out around the farm and he slowly gets adopted into Logan’s community when he’s out and about with Logan. Except Oscar doesn’t let the topic of Logan’s past go, the Private Investigator Fernando Alonso hired for him had been slowly gathering information about the Sargeants, and the more Oscar knows the more he comes to hate Logan’s father.
He knows the man could potentially destroy Oscar, but he also knows that he has people behind him that would never let anything bad happen to him, or his loved ones. And Oscar Loves Logan.

It was in Singapore when he first let slip that he was even dating anyone, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc had brought Roscoe and Leo, their pet dogs, to the race and they had the paddock go into a frenzies with the two future teammates and their pets, which sparks the discussion of the drivers and their pets. Someone asks Oscar about Poppy, the mysterious dog from his Instagram post and he tells the interviewer her name and she lives with her dad at home.
“Oh, she looks like a good girl, will you bring her with you to a race one day?” she asks
“My boyfriend is a little attached to her– maybe one day.” he smiles, thinking of Logan nearing tears thinking Poppy was pregnant, of Logan who has a bright smile on his face when Poppy climbs into bed with them, their bond is truly something else.
“Boyfriend?” Oscar realizes his mistake then, he spots Lando a few steps away, eyes wide, he has definitely heard his words. He must have noticed Oscar’s panicked face because he quickly approaches them and tries to distract the interviewer all the while shoving Oscar away– he makes a run for it when he sees his chance.
“You have a boyfriend?” Lando finds him a little while later,
“Yeah, we’ve been dating for 9 ish months now.” he opens his phone and shows Lando the Photo of Logan he took in bed with the disposable camera all those months ago, one he made his home screen. “His name is Logan.”
“Hmmm, he’s cute.” Lando gives him a pat on the back, “Anyways, Andrea wants to talk to you, good luck mate” he skips off, and Oscar spots Carlos a distance away waiting for Lando with a smile.
The talk with Andrea and the PR team was long but it wasn’t unpleasant, they clearly had experience with their drivers being in queer relationships before, and from what he knows of Lando’s and Carlos’ relationship– they had experience with their drivers being in a relationship with each other. They promised to stand behind him and his decision, if he wanted to bring Logan around to the races or if he wanted to act like nothing happened and continue to keep everything a (not so) secret.

He leaves early for America again, Austin is coming up– the anniversary of their first meeting is coming up. They spend the rainy days in bed and the hotter days out swimming in the creek behind Logan’s farm. Logan finds an old ice cream marker in a storage shed and they try and fail at making old-school ice cream, they figure it out eventually the day before Oscar leaves for Austin.
Austin GP
Oscar: P3 baby!!
Logan: That’s amazing!!
Logan: You, my love, are amazing!!
Oscar: You know it's because you and Poppy drove me right up to the gate right?
Oscar: And I’m proud of you, you know. You made it to Austin.
Oscar: My brave Logie!!
Logan: all because of you, Osc.
Logan: you make me want to be brave, I promise I’ll keep trying
Logan: I promise one day I’ll be in the paddock with you.

He has a few weeks off between Brazil and Las Vegas so he heads home to Australia, his parents aren’t too pleased that they have to hear about him dating from the media and not from Oscar himself. So after a phone call with Logan, he introduces his boyfriend to his family, to no one’s surprise his mother and his sisters quickly approve of Logan while his father takes a little more convincing.
“This boyfriend of yours, his last name is Sargeant?” his father asks one day as they are walking around the factory, Oscarnods, “as in Thomas Sargeant’s youngest son?”
“Yep,” he replies, popping his p, “I didn’t know the full details of the situation until after we'd been dating for a while. When we first met all I knew was his dad kicked him out after he came out”
“Yeah sounds like him,” Oscar looks at his dad curiously,
“You’ve met Logan’s dad?”
“Yeah. 10 some years ago,” Oscar wasn’t surprised that his dad and Logan’s family could have run in the same circle, he knew that before starting the software company he runs now his father was in other types of business. “And you said Logan’s been on his own since he was 18? Good on him then.” He smiles,
“He’s the best dad, but he’s afraid to even leave Texas,” his dad gives him a look, “I wish I could somehow show him the world and protect him from it,”
“He’s scared his dad’s gonna find him?” Oscar ponders it for a second but then he decides to open up to his father and maybe ask for help if his dad could provide it, his dad knows enough about the Sargeants to not be surprised by what happened to Logan.
“It’s not just that. Logan told me that he doesn’t care what his dad does to him” Oscar closes his eyes, imagining Logan’s strong arms around him as he promised no harm would come to Oscar, “It’s me he’s worried about,” his father was silent for a long while, when he opens his eyes again he finds his father studying him, “what?”
“You love him don’t you?” Oscar’s cheeks flush red and hot,
“I do, Dad, I really do”
“Well, whatever you decide to do kiddo, your mother and I, we got your back” he was quickly enveloped into his father’s arms.

Oscar doesn’t see his boyfriend again until after Christmas, he finishes putting up Logan’s half-decorated Christmas tree with Poppy’s help.
Logan’s birthday is a quiet affair, Logan was adamant they stay in and just laze around— a few of his neighbors stopped by with homemade pies and food so they had themselves a nice dinner. Oscar makes him a lobb-sidded cake and they sing Happy Birthday on the couch.
“Best birthday ever,” Logan says in between bites of cake.
“We didn’t even do any, Logs” Oscar giggles leaning over to lick frosting off of Logan’s nose.
“Well, I have you here. And Poppy—“ he nudges the German shepherd with his foot, “sleeping through your dad’s birthday? How rude pops” The TV signals that there are only a few more minutes until New Year's, He lets Logan pull him close.
“Happy New Year, baby. I love you” Oscar whispers in between kisses.
“Love you too, Osc” Logan's lips trail down his neck to where his ring rests against his sternum, “stay with me for 80 more years?”
“I’ll stay with you for a thousand more,”
His family calls a few days after New Year's and Oscar is currently having to fight for his boyfriend’s attention. His mother and 3 sisters are cooing over ‘Nicole’ the lamb born a few days before who is currently occupying most of the laptop screen, his sisters are fighting over who gets a baby animal named after them next. Logan is currently trying to answer Oscar’s father’s questions about crop production, while Oscar sits off to the side with Poppy on his lap and Oscar (the horse) nudging him from behind watching Logan– he looks overwhelmed but he’s happy, he catches Oscar's eyes and he smiles a bright and beautiful smile that blinds him for a few second. It was a very chaotic day in the barn indeed, and Oscar wouldn’t trade it for the world.
January 9th comes like a rainbow after a rainy day, their first anniversary. Logan wakes him up with a million kisses and breakfast in bed, then later that evening they plan to go out for dinner in a nice restaurant in the next town. Logan had insisted they wear suits but he has Oscar rolling on their bed laughing when he realizes he doesn’t fit in the only suit he brought from home at 18 anymore. They settle for nice dress shirts and trousers instead. The restaurant was nice, a cute Italian place with good food and twinkly lights. The server even gave them free champagne when she found out it was their anniversary.
“Osc,” Logan says while they wait for dessert, “I– your dad and I talked the other day,”
“Hmmm, you did? When?” Logan was clenching and unclenching his hands, clearly nervous, so he slipped their hands together and gave them a reassuring squeeze.
“A couple of days ago,” he turned to thank the server when she brought the cake over. “And he gave me the push I needed,”
“Logan?”
“I want to be brave for you,” he continues, “I want to see you race, and I’m still scared my dad will do something to you, but your dad said he’ll help me protect you. And I want to be there with you.” Oscar squeals and throws himself across the table to press a loud wet kiss to Logan’s lips. He’s not even angry when he finds a smudge of chocolate cake on his shirt after he manages to calm himself down.
“I want you there too, Lo.” Oscar gives his hand a quick squeeze,
“But if you go you won’t be my secret anymore, I can keep my team from taking photos but the fans might not be as compliant.”
“If… if you’re not ready for that I can just sit in the grandstands—“ it seems like Logan had been considering this for a while, “We’ll know exactly where the other person is without having the media attention. And I’ll wave at you— every time you drive by my seat, does that sound ok?”
“It sounds more than okay, it sounds perfect” he pulls Logan in for another kiss “It sounds perfect. You are perfect”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
He lets Logan and Poppy take turns peppering kisses all over his face before they all hop in the car, hidden in a corner of the Dallas International Airport parking lot. It’s been 3 months since he last saw Logan, and it’s clearly been a long 3 months– they had spent both Oscar’s birthday and Valentine's Day apart. The whole drive home he could not let go of Logan’s hand, and when they got home he promptly threw Logan onto the bed and just cuddled into him until their bodies protested with hunger.
A few days later they set off on their road trip to Miami, Logan had entrusted the care of his farms to his neighbors for a few weeks, and they stopped in Austin to rent an SUV,
“Why are we renting a car?” Oscar asks, loading their things into the trunk while Logan goes through the last of the paperwork with the rental agent. “Is something wrong with the truck?”
“No, I thought we’d get something nicer. I didn’t wanna embarrass you, besides I think Poppy will enjoy having the back seat all to herself.” Poppy barks and wags her tail from her spot at the back of the car, “And I always wanted to drive one of these, dad always gets mad when I touch it” The agent finally hands the key to the Audi and Logan ushers him into the car before Oscar could protest any further.
“Logan, we talked about this– you could never embarrass me,” he shoves a handful of chips into Logan’s mouth when he sees that the man is about to protest, “I’m proud of you, you know that– and I have to keep reminding you for the rest of our lives then be it.” Logan laughs once he finishes chewing,
“Thank you, baby, and I’m sorry that came out wrong. I just meant that I would rather drive my favorite F1 driver to his next race in a nicer car than a beaten-up truck.” he continues after another handful of chips in his mouth, “You have to admit though, the Audi is a lot nicer and quieter than my truck right?”
“Yeah, you’re right.” they share a look, “You want a Monster?”
“How about a Redbull?” Logan jokes,
“How about a Monster, I can get you a Red Bull when they sponsor me.”
They take turns driving, from Texas through Louisiana, they spend a few days in New Orleans, they take the long route, having a few days to spare, they drive through Alabama, Georgia, then South Carolina, and finally to Florida. Logan was asleep when they crossed the state line into Florida, but once all four wheels entered his home state, he was startled awake– he looked pale, scared even.
“You okay, Lo?” he hands his boyfriend a bottle of water, “is this your first time back since–?”
“Yeah. yeah, first time back in 6 years.” Oscar reaches his hand over, lacing their hand together, pressing a soft kiss to it.
“You’ll be okay, Logan. We’ll be okay.” Logan smiles at him, he still looks scared but there’s also courage shiningthrough in his sea-green eyes. Oscar will take that. “We still have a few more days until we have to be in Miami- do you wanna go to Disney World with me?”
“Yes. That sounds like an awesome plan, Osc.”
They reach Miami on Tuesday afternoon, Lando shows up unannounced later than that evening, and Logan is the one to answer the door– god, his poor boyfriend looks so confused.
“Mr. Norris. Hello.” Logan greets the man at the door,
“Mr. Norris? Please, you make me sound 60. Lando, I insist.” Lando pushes past Logan into the room and Oscar glares at him, his teammate throws himself onto the couch. “Logan right? It’s nice to meet you. I’m Oscar’s teammate” Logan, the ever-polite and kind person that he is, goes over and shakes Lando's hand. he watches Logan flush red when Lando turns to Oscar and loudly proclaims, "Wow, he's hot"
"Nice to meet you too" Poppy perks up from her spot near the closet door, she slowly makes her way over to Lando, Oscar can't help the smug look on his face when Poppy growls at him.
"Poppy, be nice," he says, no weight behind his words, but Poppy stops her growling and lets Lando finally pet her. "What do you want, Lando?"
"Umm, dinner. Zak, Andrea, our trainers, and a few other people want to meet the guy who you run off to every break we get"
"This couldn't have been a text?"
"Blah blah blah, don't shoot the messenger, see you downstairs in 15 minutes?"
Lando was waiting for them when they made their way downstairs, he led them into the hotel’s dining room where a group of people were already conversing and drinking. Oscar laces his hand into Logan and gives it a little tug, pulling him along towards his team.
“Everyone, this is Logan– my boyfriend” Oscar will never get over how adorable Logan looks blushing and shy when Oscar calls him his boyfriend.
“Mr. Brown, Mr. Stella, Mr. Keedle, Mr. Malvern, Mr. Webber, Mr. Alonso, Mr. Stallard. A pleasure to meet you,” Logan went around the table and shook everyone's hands, and everyone except for Mark quickly corrected him and insisted he call them by their first name.
“How do you know everyone already? “Oscar whispers once they sit down,
“They're the people who take care of you, Of course I know them Osc,” all he could do was stare at his boyfriend in awe. Everyone seems to like Logan, they warm up to him quickly and they seem genuinely interested in the things they have to say– his team is also very eager to tell Logan about all of his embarrassing stories, Lando finds out that Oscar is the only number on his phone insists that Logan take his phone number as well.
“Do you have the things I asked for Zak?” Oscar asks, the CEO nods, handing an envelope over to him– inside are the grandstand tickets he requested and a paddock pass, a sticky note on it wrote, ‘In case you change your mind’
“You're sure you want to watch from the grandstands?” Fernando asks, and Logan nods, smiling at the Spanish. “Well, I'm sure the Mclaren team got you the best seat then,”
“Logan,” Lando calls out from across the table, “why don't you join one of the paddock tours, that way we can kidnap you and show you around the hospitality”
“Are you sure?” Logan turned to him and asked, Oscar gave him a reassurance smile, “That sounds like a great idea, Lando, thank you”
“What are you guys going to do with Poppy?” Asks his teammate, “Logan can't take him to the grandstands, she’s not a service dog is she?” They both answer is the negative,
“I was gonna take her with me, I think Charles brought Leo with him. They can hang out, be friends,” Oscar replies,
“And I'll watch her while you're out on the track,” his trainer offers,
“Thank you so much, Kim, we really appreciate you”

Oscar marvels at Logan, dressed in jeans, a McLaren jersey, and Oscar’s McLaren hat. He looks good, too good.
“I will drop you off at the Hardrock stadium entrance, then I’ll park in the lot closest to my seat okay?” Logan picks up the key to the Audi before turning back to him, Oscar is still staring, “You ready, baby?”
“Hmmm, hold on,” he takes a sharpie off the small coffee table before signing his name on the spot near Logan’s chest, “ok, now everyone will know you're all mine,” Logan giggles– pressing a quick kiss to his lips.
“God, you're possessive. I love you Osc. good luck today,” he clips Poppy's leash onto her collar, “you ready to spend the day with Papa, Pops?” he hands the leash to Oscar before heading out.
Poppy becomes a star in the paddock, she obeys Oscar's every command and never barks or growls at anyone who doesn’t deserve it. Staff, fans, and other drivers all love her and Poppy basks in the attention, he doesn’t doubt that there'll be a thousand pictures and videos of Leo and Poppy running around and playing together tomorrow. He sends Logan a million updates and maybe ten hundred pictures, and he has received a few updates from Logan as well– mainly about how he made friends.
Logan joined Saturday's paddock tour group, he was hanging around the back of the group, a good spot for Oscar to pull him into the McLaren hospitality. He sits Logan down in his room, he has just about an hour before qualifying. He is still in his race suit from the sprint– didn’t bother changing out of it, the race suit hung low on his waist.
“You look good in your race suit,” there’s a dangerous and mischievous glint in his eyes, “where’s poppy?”
“Ferrari hospitality, hanging out with Leo,” he answered, watching his boyfriend stalk over to the door, and pressing the lock button.
“Is Lando here?” he asks again, a sly smile on his face. Oscar shakes his head, no. “Can you be quiet for me, baby?” Oscar nods, not trusting his voice. He manages to be as quiet as he can, not his fault his boyfriend is so good with his mouth. He maintains that his P3 qualifying was all because of Logan.
“Congrats mate,” Lando, who qualifies P5 gives him a pat on the back, “that blow job really helped huh?” he splutters, nearly choking on the water he had been drinking.
“What!! No, we weren’t!” he takes in a breath, “how did you know, anyway? I thought you were with Carlos in the Mercedes garage”
“Nah, came back halfway through your– whatever you kids wanna call it. You weren’t as quiet as you think you were kiddo” Lando leans in closer, whispering in his ear with a mocking tone. “ Oh god, Logan, I’m so close. Don't stop!! ” Oscar had never wanted to kill his teammate more than he had at this very moment.
Sunday wasn’t bad, but it could have been much better, he had a lock-up and was unfortunate enough to be stuck behind Alex in the Williams, the man defended and kept him in p11 for 15 laps. He was tired and he wanted to leave, Midwaythrough debriefing he had sent one of the staff to find Logan. They’ll maybe go out to dinner, then they’ll just cuddle or maybe he’ll let Logan fuck him into the mattress. The staff came back and informed him that Logan wasn’t in his seat, so he stopped paying attention– pulling out his phone to send some texts to his boyfriend.
Oscar: god debriefing sucks 🙁
Oscar: I wanna see you already
Oscar: where did you go? I sent one of the staff to get you and you weren’t at your seat.
Oscar: Watching the podium celebration?
He checks his phone after the meeting ends, but still no text from Logan. It was getting late and most of the people had cleared out, there’s a few people still lingering around the grandstands but none of those people looked like his boyfriend. His calls go straight to voicemail. Oscar decided to take a walk around the stadium, hoping he’d find Logan– perhaps his phone had died, perhaps he was busy talking to the new friends he made the past 3 days, whatever it was Oscar was determined to find him. The commotion coming from the dumpsters behind the stadium scares him, and the voice he soon registers as his boyfriend shakes him to his bones.
There’s a man there– dressed head to toe in luxury clothes, his expensive watch sparkles in the setting sun, he looks like Logan with salt and pepper hair, an older version of Logan. His body was hunched low, his arms and legs were jerking, his movements were violent and he looked so angry. Oscar can hear Logan, but he can’t see him.
“Dad. I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Please!” God, Logan sounds so scared, so vulnerable.
“You shouldn’t have come back here, Logan” he slowly makes his way closer, phone pressed close to his ear– “bad enough I have a fag in the family” Logan’s on the ground, he’s bloody and bruised, the man he calls dad won’t pause the beating on his son. Not even for a second, once he gets confirmation that police and security are all their way he breaks out into a run. Adrenaline gave him the force of a thousand men when he shoved Logan’s father to the ground. Logan looks startled to see him there.
“Logan, Lo! I– are you alright? Can you stand?” he kneels next to his boyfriend, his hands shaking, scared to touch him. Logan pulls himself off of the ground, one of his eyes is bruised shut, dark red bruises all over his face, blood still trickling down from his broken-looking nose and mouth.
“Who the fuck are you? This is family business– bug out kid” Logan’s father pulls himself off the ground and points an accusatory finger at Oscar.
“You should go, Police are on their way” The older man scoffed,
“You think I’m scared of the cops,” he stalks close to them, “now move, I have to teach my ungrateful son a lesson.” The man dared to look surprised when Oscar didn't move away from Logan. He cocks his head to the side, looking at Logan suspiciously, “Logan, Logan, Logan. I told you to never show your face here again– what? All brave now, coming here with a boy toy to protect you? I’ll find out who he is, son, and I’ll destroy him.” Logan whimpers from behind him, Oscar stares at him, trying his best to keep Logan’s taller frame behind him “Oh, Mr. Piastri. I’m afraid you picked the wrong person to, what, are you two dating? Well, you picked the wrong person to protect. I hoped you enjoyed your racing career while it—” Oscar let out a surprise gasp when Mr. Sargeant was sent flying to the ground with a punch.
“Mark! Mark, help!” His manager gives the old man a good kick before pressing his foot to the back of Mr. Sargeant’s head to keep him down.
“Are you okay, Oscar? Did he touch you?” security finally shows up, they put the man on the ground in cuffs, and Logan speaks up as they watch police usher him into the police car waiting.
“He’ll be out in a few hours. My dad has most of the Police departments in his pockets. He never stays in jail,” the ambulance shows up a few minutes later, and Oscar can’t help the floodgate of tears that opens when the paramedic cuts off Logan’s shirt to reveal even more bruises littering all over his chest, arms, and back. His knees shake and his heart breaks, he’s thankful for Mark Webber’s strong arms around him to keep him upright.
“Go with him, Kid. I’ll ask him to keep your dog for a few more hours.” The ride to the hospital was a mess, of a crying Oscar and Logan who kept wincing every few seconds even with the painkillers.
They make him wait in the waiting room for a few hours, when he sees Logan again his arm is in a cast and he has stitches on his forehead. Logan patted the empty spot on the bed with his least injured hand, his left eye still swollen shut.
“What did the doctor say?” Oscar runs his eyes all over Logan’s face, inspecting all the injuries he can see.
“Umm, lots of bruises, hairline fracture on one of my ribs, broken arm, and a concussion.” Oscar winces, “But they gave me so many painkillers I’m pretty good right now.”
“Logan, listen. I want you to go and stay with my parents for a little bit. Just until I can put your dad in jail for hurting you” Logan looks at him, eyes wide like he just remembered the encounter.
“Fuck! Osc, I’m so sorry– he’s gonna ruin you. I– please forgive me. I’ve been so selfish, I wanted to watch you race so bad I didn’t think he’d be at the race. Fuck fuck fuck! Oscar I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” Logan curls into himself, his body shakes with a violent sob when Oscar reaches out to touch him, tears flood his own face when all Logan is capable of at the very moment is to whisper apologies over and over again in between sobs.
“Logan, sweetheart, listen to me. Listen!” It takes him a minute, maybe two but eventually Logan relaxes his shoulders just a bit, turning his good eye towards Oscar, “Baby, nothing is going to happen to me, your father may have power here in Florida but he’s not the only one. Did you know that our dads have met before?” Logan shakes his head, “So my dad knows how to deal with people like your father, and I have a few people in my corner who won’t let anything happen to me, I know that includes you– I understand why you wanted to stay away, to protect me from your dad, and you’ve done a wonderful job of that. Thank you, Logan.” he pressed a soft kiss to Logan’s temple before continuing, “But it’s my turn now, so while I take care of maybe throwing your dad in jail, or the ocean, I want you to go stay with my parents– they’ll look after you. Mark is working on getting you a visa right now, and I’ve talked to your neighbors, I told them you got into a car crash and they’ll keep looking after the farm for you.”
“But don’t I need a passport for a visa?” Logan asks,
“We’re working on that, so you’ll go to Australia?” he nods, “Poppy’s gonna stay with Lando for a few days, then you’ll take Fernando’s private jet okay?”
“Mom?” Logan’s voice sounds so small, so child-like, when he looks up he sees a woman hovering at the entrance of the room. “Mom, what are you doing here? If Dad finds out he’ll hurt you too. You have to go,”
“Our lawyers told me about what happened, Tom is still down at the station so– Oh Logan.” Her face is wet like she has been crying, Logan’s mother is beautiful, her hair the same blonde as Logan's, she’s regal but she also looks broken– something being married to a man like Thomas Sargeant will do to you, Oscar assumes. “My baby, I’m sorry. Logan, when Dalton told me he saw you at the race I thought he was lying. We miss you so much, your brother and I, we miss you so so much.” she steps in closer and Logan recoils into Oscar, “You’re so grown up,”
“Yeah, mom, it’s been six years. Of course, I’ve grown up,” Logan’s voice was rough and he still refused to look at his mother, “How– How are you? How’s Dalton?”
“We’re okay, Your brother is getting ready to take over the company, and I’m ok, sweetheart, I’m surviving. Umm- I heard you were here so I bought some things,” for the first time since she entered the room, she finally looked away from her son, “I’m sorry, how rude of me, I’m Anne, Logan’s mother. I overheard your conversation and I agree with your friend, Logan–”
“Boyfriend, Oscar’s my boyfriend,” Oscar tightening his grip around Logan’s waist,
“Yes, I’m sorry, I agree with your boyfriend, Logan. You should go to Australia– you’ll be safer there,” Anne opens her purse, she pulls out a passport, “I brought your passport, you’ll need it for the Visa right?”
“Thank you, Mrs. Sargeant,”
“Can I hug you?” she asks, unsure, Logan looks up for the first time,
“Um yeah, yeah. That sounds nice,” in his mother’s arms Logan broke down like a child, she pulled Oscar into the hug too.

Logan gets discharged from the hospital a few days later, Oscar, Logan, and Poppy load themselves onto the private jet Fernando Alonso lets them borrow and they head off to Melbourne. He gets his boyfriend to settle into his old bedroom, and he watches his family enter into a new comfortable routine with Logan. He couldn’t go home until after Spain, but on their daily Facetime call, Logan seemed to be healing at a quick rate, both physically and mentally. His parents talked Logan into going to therapy and that seems to be helping a bunch.
“I come bearing news,” Oscar makes room on the couch for Mark Webber, he was still slightly jet lagged, having arrived from Barcelona only the day before. His whole family is there, plus Mark, it was a little crowded and slightly chaotic, but he thought it was sort of nice. “Your dad was arrested by the US State Department a couple of days ago, the judge seized his passport and license, and they’re denying bail.”
“How did you manage that?” Logan asked, clearly surprised,
“Well, Nando does have a few connections with some people no one’s supposed to know about.” Oscar and his sisters sniggers as Mark look awkwardly at the ceiling, refusing to make eye contact with any of them, “And his friends also have friends inside the US state department, so– yeah”
“And before becoming your dad and starting this software company, I had a different life– we had fun back then didn’t we, honey?” His father yelped in pain when his mother gave his arm a loud slap. “Anyway, we think the charges are going to stick. And don’t worry about your mom and brother, I think they’ll be fine.”
“Thank you, Thank you so much, everyone. I–” Logan's sentence was cut off when Oscar throws himself onto his boyfriend, he hears a little ‘oof’ coming from Logan when his sisters decide to throw themselves on top of him followed by his mother. “I don’t know what I did to deserve all of this, I’m incredibly lucky. Thank you!”

Logan flies to Canada with Oscar for the grand prix, this time he’s sitting in the paddock club and not the grandstands, and this time, he knows he’s safe. Poppy stays in the Mclaren hospitality with Oscar and Logan can come and go whenever he pleases. He’s still Oscar’s secret of course, despite everything that happened, despite all they went through– they, with the help of their friends, family, and the McLaren PR team, had managed to keep everything under wraps. From the text Logan had been sending him, he seemed to be having a good time, maybe even a little tipsy on champagne.
“Mate, I brought Max with me, he agreed to stay and keep Logan entertained this weekend.” during the team meeting on Thursday Lando had pulled him aside and proudly proclaimed the information to him,
“What? My boyfriend doesn’t need a babysitter, Mate” his brows furrowed as he looked at his teammate, and Lando laughed.
“Not a babysitter, a friend. He’s been by himself for the last, what, 5-6 years? You got to admit, he needs friends– and Max volunteered to be his first friend”
“Oh, yeah. Thanks mate” Well, Logan seems to be having a good time with Max, so he really should thank Lando again for that.
After Canada Logan goes home, and Oscar goes back to Europe. They settle back into the old routine of the Formula One driver and the Farmer, of Oscar coming and going between Texas and Racing, of living life in the fast lane away from Logan, then he’d come home to a peaceful, quiet life with his boyfriend. Logan would take care of his animals, and he and Poppy would go on runs together, sometimes into town or the woods behind his property, then around the evening or before bed, depending on which time zone he was in, he and Oscar would talk on the phone– Oscar loves it. Oscar would keep driving for McLaren, he would sometimes make it to the podium and sometimes he wouldn’t, and every day, no matter how chaotic the day had been, he’d call Logan, and he’d tell Logan about everything that happened that day.
Logan tells him that his brother showed up at the farm a few days ago, he said that they talked and his brother apologized for not doing more to protect Logan, and after a long talk and a few tears, Logan decided to forgive his brother.
“Dalton asked if I wanted to go home,” Logan had gotten a new phone recently, a more modern one with access to the internet and cameras– which means Oscar gets to see his boyfriend’s face now.
“Hmm, what’d you say?” The American had his phone propped up on the toaster, he was making dinner but he was feeding every other piece of chicken he was chopping to himself and poppy.
“I told him this is home, and you’re my home. I’m exactly where I wanna be,” God, he never gets how Logan could say things like ‘you’re my home ’ with such a straight face while leaving Oscar’s heart swelling with pride and his cheeks burning red and hot.
“So if I’d ever ask you to move to Monaco with me next year, would you?” Logan looks up from the cutting board, his head cock to the side, his sea green eyes blinking at Oscar like he had just said something so completely oblivious.
“Well, I would have to figure out what to do with the farm, I don’t wanna sell it, 'cause, you know it’s my first home, and it’s where we first met.” Poppy's cute little paws and face pop into the frame when she perches herself onto the kitchen counter to steal a piece of chicken before disappearing again, “she acts like I don’t feed her. Umm– yeah, like I said, you’re my home so, anywhere you go, I’ll be there.”
“Okay then, let's figure out what to do with the farm, I want you to move in with me, I want you with me for every race, I wanna go to sleep in your arms every night and I wanna wake up with you every morning.”
“Sounds like a marriage proposal, Osc?” Logan quirks his eyebrow teasingly, Oscar pouts, “I know, I know– no marriage until you win a championship”
“Next year, I can feel it.”
“I know, baby, I can feel it too.”

If someone had told him in 2023 that he’d be walking into the paddock with the cute stranger who rescued him in Texashe would have laughed, and yet, there they are in 2025– Logan trailing a few steps behind him, showing Kim pictures of Poppy who is at the farm with Logan’s neighbor. Oscar introduces his boyfriend to his fellow drivers, and when he goes out onto the track Logan stands in the garage with the McLaren headset around his head. They’d rewatch the race later, Oscar’s head resting on Logan’s chest on the couch– they’d see the camera zoom in on Logan in the Mclaren garage, the graphic would say ‘Logan Sargeant, friend of Oscar Piastri’ and they’d laugh,
“I’ll correct them later,” Oscar will say.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
They spend their second anniversary packing things into boxes, and it turns out Logan doesn't have much besides clothes, Poppy’s toys, and a few books he wants to take. Then they took a walk around the farm, saying goodbye to all the animals, and they went on one last hike with Poppy into the woods and then they swam in the creek. Oscar introduces Logan to the world via a photo dump of them through their two years together, they’re mostly just a hand or half his face but Oscar is sure people will start piecing things together when they see ‘Logan Sargeant, partner of Oscar Piastri’ on graphic during his races.
The answer to Logan’s question of what to do with the farm comes in the form of one Anne Sargeant. Logan and his mother don’t talk often but they have been trying to rebuild their relationship. She came for a visit in November and they spent a few days together– when Logan relaid to her his wishes to move to Monaco with Oscar she volunteered to take care of the farm for him.
It takes them a few weeks to settle into Oscar’s Monaco apartment, Poppy seems very annoyed that she doesn’t have a huge land to run around on anymore, so for the first several months they had to take her on 2 walks a day.
When the season started Logan would be there with him for every race, just like they talked about. The best thing Oscar could hope for happens when people on the internet come to adore Logan– they call him their favorite WAG, and Oscar agrees that Logan is his favorite WAG. Of course, they’re still some close-minded and hateful people out there in the world but they’d do their best to ignore it.
Looking back to that rainy Texan night, maybe Austin wasn’t as cruel to him as he used to think, because right here, right now, with Logan’s arms around him to keep him warm from the wind that blows in from the Mediterranean sea, kisses that he trails from Oscar’s lips to his collar bones, and knowing in his heart and soul that they’re safe and free and happy– Oscar really need to thank, his DNF, or fate, or design, or whatever you want to call for leading Oscar right to Logan’s doorstep.
