   Summary

   Lawrence had studied Magnemite enough to know their bodies generated an electromagnetic field to allow them to levitate, and after he glanced at the Rolf Widerøe journal article, he recalled this event of the Magnemite spinning faster and faster around his, the magnetic fields getting stronger the faster they rotated. That was when Lawrence sketched his first idea for the cyclotron.
