“You’re here,” Satoru muttered, almost certain that speaking the fact would result in his best friend dissolving into nothing, just as he had dozens of times in his dreams.
But Suguru only laughed, and his hand rubbed soothingly over Satoru’s back. “Of course I’m here. I’ve been waiting for you.”
Satoru blinked. Suguru’s sturdy frame did not dissolve, and he remained anchored by his hold. If this wasn’t a dream…could it be a delusion of his dying brain? Or was it a true existence beyond the reality he'd been dispatched from? Some sort of afterlife?
Did the truth really matter if Suguru was here, laughing and embracing him like he’d missed him dearly?
No, it didn’t. It really, really didn't.
“Sorry I’m late,” he said earnestly, and Suguru let out an incredulous laugh.
