Work Text:
Phoenix looked at the Prosecutor's Office in nervousness. Yes, he had been there before, but as a defense attorney investigating a case, not as a new prosecutor. But here he is, about to change careers from defense attorney to prosecutor, to bring Morgan Fey to justice and maybe avenge Maya. As he walked inside to head into his new office, he runs into Edgeworth.
"Wright?" Edgeworth asked. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm the new prosecutor," Phoenix said.
"Since when?" Edgeworth asked, still shocked at Phoenix's change on careers.
"Since I got my new eyes," Phoenix said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to head to my new office." As Phoenix walked past Edgeworth to head inside his new office, he sits down at his desk and starts on step one of his new mission: Find Misty Fey. But where to begin? Maya's mother could be anywhere! Is there a clue? Then, he had a weird feeling. Using his hands and Maya's eyes, Phoenix began searching on his work computer like crazy. Then, he banged his head on the wooden desk. Wherever Misty Fey is, she clearly doesn't want to be found. After looking up at the clock, he realized that he has been searching for a few hours. Phoenix then suddenly heard a knock at the door.
"Come in!" Phoenix called out.
Edgeworth came in. "I have come to assist you on your first case," he said.
"I have a case already?" Phoenix asked.
"A young man killed, and another accused," Edgeworth said, hoping to find a sign of the old Phoenix Wright in the cold, callous shell of the one sitting before him. He found none.
"What are the details?" Phoenix asked.
"The victim's name is Daniel Dancer," Edgeworth said. "He was a ballet dancer whose troupe was in town for a performance."
"And the accused?" Phoenix asked.
"The accused's name is James Hart," Edgeworth said.
"And when does the trial start?" Phoenix asked, getting up to grab his suit jacket before leaving for an investigation.
"Tomorrow," Edgeworth said. "I have been assigned to be your co-council."
"Then we need to investigate right away," Phoenix said.
"Are you sure you want to walk the prosecutor's path?" Edgeworth asked quietly, his hand on Phoenix's arm. "I know that this isn't the path you originally wanted to take."
"I'm sure," Phoenix said gruffly, forcefully taking his arm out of Edgeworth's grip. "Let's just go." As Phoenix walked away hurriedly, Edgeworth could only stare in shock before following the new prosecutor. When had his friend's heart grow so hard?
