Work Text:

The sun was shining down on Glasshouse primary school, the remaining kids sat deep in the field talking.

"Now stay here for a moment Bingo, I'm just going to go get your sister."
Bingo nodded as Chilli walked off to go grab Bluey, taking the moment to sit down and play with the grass. As she was sitting something caught her eye. "Oooo a nice little ladybug" she giggled.

As she followed the bug around the grass an Australian shepherd walked up, having seen Chilli getting dragged into a game. "Hello there little one, I'm Calypso, what's your name?"
Bingo looked up smiling "hi I'm Bingo... I like your scarf, it's very pretty."

Calypso smiled and joined Bingo in the grass "thank you Bingo, I'm glad you like my bandana" she paused watching the red heeler turn back to her insect watching.
"So what are you looking at?" Bingo pointed out her new friend "looking after the ladybugs are you?"

"He's very small but he seems very nice" Calypso nodded and joined Bingo in watching over the little bug. Glancing over at the chaos that Chilli had found herself in.

"Lots of people don't spend much time with insects, what do you like about them Bingo?"

"Well they are nice and even though they are little doesn't mean they aren't important. I think they look very cool."

Calypso smiled softly sitting next to Bingo, taking a moment with her "they do get up to lots of interesting things don't they. What do you think their favourite thing to do is?" Bingo thought about the question. Watching the ladybug sitting on the blade of grass. She didn't really know, just that they were interesting.

"Do you like insects miss Calypso?" The question caught her by surprise, making her smile softly.

"Yes I do, I used to spend lots of time sitting and playing with them, singing to them, watching them"

They sat there for a moment taking in the gentle beauty before Bingo spoke up again "thanks for looking at them with me, everyone else is too busy all the time" Calypso just sat with Bingo, glancing back over at Chilli running around after Bluey.

"Sometimes mums and dads get busy and caught up with things, but that doesn't mean that your any less important or that they care any less"

"I know. I just wish I could show them but whenever I find a nice one they are too busy chasing bluey to hear.” That got a small laugh out of the Australian Shepard.

“Well she is very energetic, its often a lot for me to keep up with her sometimes. Though she does remind me of how my sister was when we were younger.” Calypso smiled as she thought back on some of her fond memories, including one or two in a park that was very reminiscent of the scene before her.

“So what is your sister like?” Calypso blinked, shook back to reality by the question and slightly surprised by it.

“Sweet and compassionate…” she hesitated before continuing “but a lot further away and busier than I’d like. Even if being grown means I don’t need my big sister, it doesn't mean I don't miss her.”

Bingo moved closer and hugged Calypso’s leg. The Australian Shepard responding by wrapping an arm around her as they watched Bluey, Mackenzie, and Rusty running circles around Chili, both figuratively and literally.

The sun shone on them as they gently held each other. “You know Bingo, if you ever need to talk and want someone to listen I'm very happy to. God knows it’s been too long since I did any insect watching” she joked.

She got a shy nod in response and then, “ok Calypso… but would you mind telling me more about your sister? After all, i want to listen to you too.”

Calypso smiled softly “of course, us little sisters have to look after each other don’t we.” Bingo nodded, and even though it took a while for other Heelers to come back over, Bingo didn’t mind, she was happy to enjoy the sun and chat with Calypso.

And watch some insects with her too.
