A Little Encouragement

Summary:

Jill Valentine and Rebecca Chambers are bored as hell and hope to spice things up around the S.T.A.R.S office by playing cupid to two dummies who are clueless about their feelings for each other.

Notes:

This is quick and meant to be silly. I won’t go as far as calling it a crack!Fic, but it is a little out of character for my usual writing! It's fun and fluffy, please enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Morning!” Rebecca said cheerfully as she pulled a pink frosted donut out of the small white bag she was carrying and handed it to Jill. “Where is everyone this morning?”

“Barry is volunteering at his daughter’s school, and the rest of them are at that training we have to go to next week.” Jill said with a huff, taking a bite of her donut casually before she rested her head on her forearms.

“Hmm, sounds like a quiet day in the office.” Rebecca said, hopping up to sit on top of Jill’s desk so she could sip on the iced latte she had bought for herself.

Glancing across the room, Jill tilted her chin up towards Wesker’s office where Chris was leaning against the doorway, attempting to engage the Captain in conversation as he nervously waved his hands around while talking.

“Don’t you think they would be good together?” She said in a hushed voice, catching Rebecca’s attention as the younger woman glanced towards the office behind her.

“What do you mean? They already compliment each other from what I’ve seen during the Alpha team drills.” Rebecca mused. “Well, when Chris listens.” She said with an endearing smirk.

“No, I mean like, together, together.” Jill said, raising her eyebrows dramatically as Rebecca processed what she was implying.

“You mean, as a couple?” Rebecca whispered, swinging her legs curiously from atop Jill’s desk. “Hmm, I could definitely see it, I think they would be really cute together.” She said with a hushed giggle as Chris stepped further into the office, inviting himself in after appearing to test the Captain’s mood by making a joke, which must have been reciprocated though Chris was the only one who could be heard laughing.

“Just look at them! Wesker barely gives anyone the time of day, he is always such a hard ass. Yet, every morning he lets Chris blabber on about whatever bullshit he is currently hyper-fixating on. He even pretends to be interested, for god's sake. Anyone else? He would be shooing them back to work, but not him.” She said, her eyes narrowing as Chris started to hop back and forth, using his shoulder bag as a makeshift football as he reenacted the winning play from last night’s big game.

“I’ve never really considered it before, but Chris definitely looks up to him. He follows him around sometimes like a puppy hoping to get some semblance of approval, it can be kind of cute. But you’re right, Chris makes a lot of mistakes and can be really stubborn, but the Captain certainly goes easy on him when compared to everyone else.” Rebecca said thoughtfully.

“We should set them up.” Jill said with a wicked smile.

“With no one else really here today, I suppose it's worth a try!” Rebecca said enthusiastically as Chris came out of Wesker’s office with a light pink flush on his cheeks.

“What’s worth a try?” He said innocently, placing his bag down on his desk.

“Making these at home.” Jill interrupted, holding up her half-eaten donut. “I think it's going to be easier than we think.” She said with a wink, as Rebecca smiled and nodded.

“Well count me in for being the taste tester!” Chris said, smiling brightly as Jill broke off a piece and handed it to him.

“You’ve got it, let's just hope we don’t make too much of a mess.” She said, silently agreeing with Rebecca before the three of them continued on with their morning routines.

While the R.P.D bustled around them, the S.T.A.R.S office grew quiet as Jill and Chris focused on their paperwork. An hour into the stack of papers on top of his desk, Jill could tell Chris was growing restless and would probably be ready to goof off any minute in the absence of his usual morning chatter with Forest and Joseph. As she felt her desk shake slightly from his knee bouncing up and down, the Captain silently strolled out of his office.

“I have booked the shooting range from eleven to twelve. Please also extend the offer to Miss Chambers should she be interested in participating. Do not be late.” Wesker commanded as he exited the S.T.A.R.S office and disappeared down the hallway as quietly as he had come.

“Alright!” Chris cheered. “Come on, Jill, let’s go get Becky. Her aim has been improving so much, and I want the Captain to see her progress.” Chris said proudly as he leaped up from his desk with excitement.

Once Jill and Chris had collected Rebecca, they headed to the shooting range beneath the precinct, where their Captain awaited them. Checking his watch, Wesker nodded in approval when he confirmed that they had arrived on time.

“Chris, you’re up first.” Wesker said, prompting Chris to confidently put his safety eyewear and ear protection on. Taking out his gun, Chris loaded it as Jill and Rebecca watched Wesker prepare the paper target and send it down the range.

“Captain, you have to show Chris that grip technique you showed me the other day! It is so helpful.” Jill said, nodding at Rebecca deviously.

“Of course. Chris, you're a good shot but this technique will help with your tendency to cluster your shots to the right.” Wesker said, approaching Chris from behind. “May I? You can take your regular stance.”

“Uh, sure….go ahead.” Chris said, turning to face the target before raising his hands and clicking the safety off of the gun. Wrapping his arms around the younger man, Wesker hummed before adjusting the placement of Chris’ hands on the gun.

“Just like this.” Wesker said, causing Chris’ breath to hitch slightly as Wesker pressed his groin up against him briefly. Trying his best to steady his hands, Chris held onto the gun tightly and refocused as he squeezed the trigger, hitting the target dead on.

“Excellent.” Wesker almost purred, lingering for a moment behind Chris who exhaled with relief as he continued to look downrange in an attempt to hide the flush that extended from his cheeks to his ears.

Exchanging an excited glance at Rebecca, Jill leaned in to whisper as Wesker prepared the targets for the drills he wanted them to practice.

“Did you see that?” She asked.

“Yeah! There is totally a spark between them, that was undeniable.” Rebecca said as she finished loading her clip.

“We may have our work cut out for us after all.” Jill said, her eyes widening as she observed Chris straighten his posture and flex his bicep nonchalantly when Wesker walked by him, only to have the Captain surprisingly flash a small smirk in response.

Once everyone had a chance to break for lunch and spend part of the afternoon working through some paperwork, Wesker announced that they would be joining some of the officers in Marvin Branagh’s unit for a training session in the gym after he attended a meeting with Chief Irons.

~

“Jill, Jill!” Chris said, skittering into the S.T.A.R.S office in a panic.

“I must have left my gym clothes at home again! I found a pair of shorts in my locker, but I don't have a shirt. The Captain is going to kill me if I’m not prepared, and all the guys are in that training.” He said, his expression desperate for assistance.

“I think I have something in my locker. Meet me down there in five. I’m waiting for Rebecca.” Jill said, stretching at her desk as Chris nodded and hastily left the office.

When Rebecca strolled into the office a few moments later, she made sure they were alone before asking, “Did it work?”

“Yep. The lock on his locker popped in seconds. He’s lucky I was kind enough to leave him the shorts.” Jill said with a slight snort as Rebecca smiled and followed her down to the locker room.

~

“It’s not much, but it will have to do.” Jill said with a sympathetic smirk as Chris held up the oversized RPD t-shirt Jill had cut into a crop top.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Chris said, cringing as he held up the garment to his chest.

“It’s totally the style; you’ll fit right in with the rest of the try-hards down at the gym.” Jill said encouragingly as Chris softened at her reassurance.

“Well, fine. Thanks, I guess.” Chris said as he shrugged into the crop top, his tight stomach peeking out from atop his shorts.

“You look so buff, Chris! All the rookies are going to be stopping you for tips down in the gym today.” Rebecca said, as Chris flashed her a confident smile.

“Let’s go show them what the S.T.A.R.S are made of then.” He said, flexing his bicep with a chuckle as Jill and Rebecca laughed and followed him into the gym.

Upon entering the gym, Jill and Rebecca quickly distanced themselves from Chris to stretch as he made his way over to the treadmill to warm up. While Chris jogged steadily with his attention on the news playing on the small TV hanging from the ceiling, the girls watched carefully while their Captain snuck several glances at him from across the room. As a slight glisten of sweat appeared on Chris’ body, Wesker’s gaze appeared to linger, his sunglasses unable to hide where his attention clearly was. Once finished with his warm-up, Chris stretched briefly before making his way over to a bench setup for chest presses. Smiling warmly when he noticed the Captain walking towards him, Chris waved to catch his attention.

“Hey Captain, do you mind spotting me?” Chris asked, as Wesker paused for a moment to observe his outfit now that he had a closer look.

“Of course, please sit down.” Wesker said, licking his lips slightly while Chris lowered himself down onto the bench and gripped the bar above him, the younger man's muscular form on full display.

Pushing the bar up, Wesker lightly held it in place as Chris began to push it forward, his chest and abdomen contracting with every rep. Continuing to watch Chris push the bar up, Wesker lost himself momentarily in the sweet scent of Chris’ sweat that filled the air, while distracted by Chris’ small grunts of effort.

“Uh, Cap?” Chris said with a squeak, as Wesker refocused and quickly helped Chris return the bar to the rack.

“Apologies, I thought you may go for another set.” Wesker said quickly, pushing his glasses up on his nose as he tossed a small towel to Chris before desperately sipping his water.

“Wesker is so distracted, just look at him!” Jill said, performing a bicep curl as she and Rebecca peered at their coworkers from across the gym.

“Totally, it's so rare to see the Captain flustered like this. I think you are right, there is definitely something there.” Rebecca said, squatting down a few times before switching to lunges.

“Are you ready for the next part of the plan?” Jill asked, handing Rebecca a cup of water.

Taking a sip of the water, Rebecca held up a thumbs up before winking at Jill. “I’m on it.”

~

While the gym began to clear out, Rebecca approached Chris and Wesker, who were finishing up a light stretch after their workouts.

“Hi Captain, Chris. Sorry to bother you, but I need to get some health checks completed this week and I thought it would be a good time to take advantage of having the teams split for the training.” She said with a kind smile.

“I’m kind of gross, are you sure you want to do it now?” Chris said, a bit embarrassed by his now sweat drenched shirt.

“Don’t worry about that at all! Besides, you’ll have the showers all to yourselves!” She said, as Chris and Wesker looked at each other briefly before hesitantly agreeing to Rebecca’s proposal.

“Great! It will be super quick, I just need to check your vitals and ask some questions.” She said, ushering them out of the gym and towards the medic’s office.

~

Once Rebecca had finished their checkups, Chris and Wesker walked over to the showers which were now completely empty.

“Guess we have the whole place to ourselves.” Chris said awkwardly as he fiddled around with the lock on his locker.

“Mm. Seems so.” Wesker said, taking off his shirt which caused Chris to look away in an attempt to give him some privacy though the glimpse of his toned pale stomach was causing Chris’ heartbeat to quicken.

Once undressed and wrapped in towels, Chris and Wesker made their way to the showers before stripping down completely. Turning the water on, steam filled the room as they began to wash their bodies, the light scent of soap wafting through the air soon thereafter.

“Could you pass the shampoo?” Chris asked, their eyes meeting as Chris’ fingers brushed against Wesker’s while transferring the bottle between them.

Glancing away quickly while they continued to wash themselves, the hot water streaming over their bodies masked the embarrassed flush both men felt rising to their cheeks. Unable to stand the newfound tension growing between them, the two men quickly finished up their showers and quietly dried themselves off in the locker room, doing their best to avoid one another as they began to redress.

After Chris put on a clean pair of boxer briefs, he glanced over to Wesker who was standing next to him in white briefs, of which contained a considerable bulge that caused Chris’ stomach to flutter. With the heat rising on his cheeks, Chris slowly redressed himself, taking in the smell of his Captain’s cologne before joining him at the sinks to run gel through their damp hair.

“Come here.” Wesker said, as Chris froze in place as the older man approached him. “A lock of your hair is sticking straight up in the back.” He said calmly, running his fingers through Chris’ hair until it was smooth and in place.

“Oh, thanks.” Chris muttered, glancing up at Wesker for a moment. “Your’s is perfect as always, sir.” he continued, causing Wesker to blink in surprise and quickly put his sunglasses back on. Overcome by the awkwardness of the conversation, Chris gathered his belongings and excused himself back to the office.

~

After an uneventful afternoon, Rebecca joined the remaining team members in the S.T.A.R.S office to file some paperwork she had been working on. Once everyone was finished with their work, Chris began to pack his shoulder bag, chatting briefly with Jill about potential weekend plans as Wesker stepped out of his office and cleared his throat.

“Chris, I have some additional reports that need reviewing this evening, would you be able to stay late to assist me?” He said, his blue eyes locked on to Chris from behind his sunglasses.

“Oh, Uh, sure Captain.” Chris said, unable to hide an excited smirk as he put his bag on his desk and shyly waved goodbye as Jill and Rebecca packed their bags and headed to the hallway.

As the two young women closed the door to the S.T.A.R.S office behind them, they nearly jumped for joy as they reached up to high-five each other before rushing down the stairs to continue gossiping about the scene that had just played out, thrilled that their matchmaking efforts had paid off.

“See? All they needed was a little encouragement!”
