Chapter 1: Prolouge

Chapter Text

Evan “ Buck” Buckley-Diaz died on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 doing what he loved the most. He died from asphyxiation in the line of duty.

The 118 held the Honour Guard 2 days later, he was surrounded by his family and friends.

He now lies in Forest Green Memorial Park, peacefully under the beautiful oak trees.

He is survived by his Husband Edmundo Buckley-Diaz and son, Christopher.

——————————

Something in Eddie died that day. A part of his body held heavy, every time he walked where he once did he could feel the heaviness, the cold air that was once warm, smelled of cinnamon and vanilla.

Now he had to live in a world where there was no more cinnamon and vanilla, no more warm cuddles after a tough call. No more whispered baby in the dead of night while their son slept soundly in the next room.

Eddie now had to live in a world without his husband, the one and only man he had ever loved.

The only man he will love.

It was now a month after Buck had died, he hadn’t really spoken to anyone since. He couldn’t, he can’t. He had to be a Dad to their mourning son, who had nightmares because his papa was dead and wasn’t coming back home. No more video game nights, movie nights or pizza nights. The magic they once had in the house was gone.

He had been going to therapy, virtual sessions only. Eddie could barely get out of bed to help get Christopher ready for school. Chris always understood, he was too smart for his own good.

Frank told Eddie he should write down how he felt.

Eddie decided that he should write letters to the 118, let them know how much Buck had loved him, how loved he felt by his found family.
