Chapter Text
“We need to buy some more vegetables. We're almost out, and I want to get some more noodle packs,” Haruhi said, pointing to the vegetable display.
“Well my family needs more carrots, these are buy 1 kilo get 1 for free should we split?” Emma asked examining the carrots.
“Good idea, I think there's also a sale on red miso paste, should we go halfsies on that?” Haruhi asked as Emma carefully weighed out the carrots and tossed them into the basket while looking around the supermarket.
“Sure, I also need to grab some more tofu and some more curry blocks,” Emma said as the two girls made their way through the supermarket. Checking out at the till the two girls made their way out of the supermarket. It was a warm summer evening and the sound of the cicadas chirping filled the warm summer air. Coming to their apartment block the two girls made their way up the stairs. “I’m going to put everything away.” Haruhi said as came to her door.
“Doors unlocked like always,” Emma said as she opened the adjacent door to her place. “We’re back” Emma said as her mom waved at her. Placing the shopping down she started putting everything away. “What’s for dinner?”
“Gyudon,” her mom replied.
“Nice,” Emma said as she started to put away the groceries away. Hearing a soft tap at the door Haruhi entered.
“Why don't you girls go study in Emma’s room? I'll call you when dinner is ready."
“Thanks mom.” Emma and Haruhi made their way back to her room. Sitting on the floor Emma curled her knees up into her chest.
“Ok so are you going to tell me the big surprise now?” Emma asked, expectantly looking at Haruhi.
“I got into Ouran,” Haruhi said pulling out the overly ornate acceptance letter.
“What no wayyyy I knew you’d be able to get in...did you get that full scholarship?” Emma wrapped her arms around Haruhi in a big hug.
“Yah I got the letter this morning, I need to tell my dad when he gets home,” Haruhi said with a shrug after Emma let go.
“You should have told me, I could have asked my mom if we could make something nice for dinner,” Emma said “I think we have ice-cream in the fridge should i get some come on this is cause for celebration.”
“No no, it’s ok I don't want to spoil dinner.”
“Ok fine but tomorrow we'll make a nice dinner and we'll invite your dad and we can all celebrate. Come on Haruhi this is huge, Ouran is the most prestigious school in the country.”
“I guess but you don't have to make a big deal about it.”
“I know I’ll make you some chocolate covered strawberries. I know they're your favorite, oh and we can order from Endo’s sushi shop for dinner. It'll be perfect!”
“No you don’t have...” Haruhi tried to say but was cut off by Emma.
“Mom Haruhi got into Ouran, can we have a celebration dinner?” Emma had already jumped up flinging open the door to shout to her mom.
“You got in Haruhi, I’m so proud of you of course we’ll celebrate. I know you worked so hard,” Marie said. Haruhi sighed.
“So, do they assign a lot of summer homework? I’m almost finished mine but you're at a bit of a disadvantage aren't you since you just found out now?” Emma asked, pointing to the books stacked on her desk.
“I think I’ll be ok. It’s not a lot of work itself, it's just very specific” Haruhi said.
“I’m so happy for you, are you going to get the uniform, honestly I think it's so ugly.”
“No, it’s ¥300,000.” Emma’s jaw almost hit the floor.
“Putain ¥300,000 for that yellow mushroom monstrosity, I guess it's true you can't buy taste. You could get a motorbike with that kind of money!” Emma said with a head shake. “Well if you need any help with your homework I’m always happy to help.”
“I think i’ll be fine.”
“I wish you had taken French, then I’d have someone else to speak French with,” Emma said, flinging herself onto her bed, staring at the ceiling. “But, I guess I can help you with English too.” she said rolling over and propping herself up by her elbows, legs kicking back and forth.
“Girls dinner ready” Marie said as the two teenagers made their way back to the kitchen, dining room area. Emma was quick to set the table as Haruhi helped Marie with serving the Gyudon.
“Have you told your father yet?” Marie asked
“No, he’s working overnight tonight so I’ll have to tell him tomorrow.”
“Should we make it a surprise for him, I’m sure he'll be so happy to hear you got in.” Emma suggested.
“No, no you guys have already done enough. I really appreciate it. No, I wanna tell him after he gets home,” Haruhi said. The rest of the dinner was filled with polite conversation about Ouran as a school and about Haruhi’s highschool life.
“Ok Haruhi dear, I’ve packed up some food for Ranka when he gets home make sure he eats it,” Marie said, handing a Tupperware to Haruhi.
