Chapter 1: Day one: Early morning

Chapter Text

Lucifer smiled maliciously as he snuck through the hotel hallways, careful not to make any noise. He didn't think his precious daughter or her friends would wake up so early in the morning after yesterday's party, but still, he didn't want to risk them waking up before his surprise was ready. Ha! Surely they would wake up with the hangovers of hell, and he would be ready with a breakfast that would help them recover quickly, and then who would be hell's greatest dad of all? Of course him! And then that idiot Alastor…

One moment.

“What are you doing here?” he asked when he opened the door and saw the radio demon inside the kitchen.

“Good morning to you too, Your Majesty!” exclaimed Alastor turning his back on him “As you might see, I am cooking”

“Why?”

“Well, is obvious that dear Charlie and the rest of her friends will have a headache as soon as they wake up, don’t you think? This recipe is perfect to help them recover after the scandalous party they threw yesterday”

Lucifer entered the kitchen and crossed his arms. That fucking demon. He was always one step ahead of him

“And how is it that you don’t have side effects? I remember seeing you at yesterday’s party and enjoying yourself with them. After all, the agreement with Heaven to implement the redemption program is everyone’s achievement” His lips curved into a mischievous smile “Oh, right, I forgot. You are the kind of demon that makes nothing and takes everyone else credit”

Alastor continued stirring the pot, without turning to look at him.

“I could very much say the same about you, Your Majesty. I at least was with Charlie since the hotel’s creation, voluntarily, if I may say, and I was always supporting her. Meanwhile, you got involved when we already had made some advances after your daughter asked you, and the first thing you did was discourage the project. Despite that, I also saw you celebrating yesterday”

Lucifer snorted, although he did not deny his words. Because in a way it was true. He hadn't been with Charlie since the beginning of the most important project of her life, what's more, he had told her that it was useless, instead of showing her his unconditional support, even if she failed.

“Can we agree that neither of us has exactly been a stellar figure when it comes to helping my daughter with the hotel?”

“You were the one who started talking about taking credit that isn't due, but fine” Alastor finally turned to look at him, leaning against one of the counters, leaving the pot and spoon in sight “And for answering your question, although I am delighted with the deal struck between Hell and Heaven, I consider rather frivolous and unnecessary to celebrate with music so loud you are not even able to have a proper conversation, drink so much that you forget your own name and be ridiculous. So I celebrated for a while before retiring to the peace of my room."

“Right. I forgot you are an old man”

“Said the king of hell”

There he was kinda of right. But he was wrong also. Lucifer might be old, but he was also charming. Alastor was just a bitter old man.

“I still have the charm and the ability to party late into the night,” he replied with a proud smile as he adjusted the bow on his clothes.

Alastor didn't look very convinced.

“If you say so, Your Majesty”

Lucifer leaned in to see what Alastor was preparing. It was a stew of red beans, mixed with sausage and ham. It looked even more delicious than it smelled, and it smelled terribly delicious.

Damn, who knew this moron also knew how to cook?

“What is that?”

“Red beans and rice. A top recipe from New Orleans. Perfect to help recover after a hangover”

“And how do I know it isn’t poison?”

Alastor's smile spread until it reached his ears.

“I have no intention of poisoning Charlie or anyone at the hotel.”

“What a shame I don't trust your words.”

And without waiting for a response, he grabbed a nearby bowl, and a spoon, and spooned on some of the stew. Alastor's eyes widened in surprise, but he made no move to stop him. Lucifer blew on the food, before putting it in his mouth and savoring it.

Silence.

Alastor turned his head to the right, watching him as he lifted a second spoonful into his mouth.

Lucifer sighed, giving up.

“Is… fine” lie, it was delicious, but that didn't mean he was going to give that smug bastard a compliment “Charlie will love it. And the others too”

Alastor nodded slowly.

"Good"

"But it isn’t enough! Yesterday's party was savage, they're going to need more than a little plate of yours to recover. Fruits, eggs, any drinks. Do we have coconut from the blood sea?” Lucifer took his gaze away from Alastor and began to scan the place. “I will prepare a fruit salad.”

Alastor raised an eyebrow.

“And how does the king of hell know what to consume to counteract a hangover?”

"Are you kidding? You know my sister Bee, right?” Alastor nodded slowly “That's the answer. She is crazier than a goat and drinks more barrels than she prepares."

Alastor watched him for a moment, before starting to laugh. Without being able to help it, Lucifer laughed with him. He didn't understand what they were laughing about, but it was nice that, for once, he and Alastor weren't arguing.

“Well, Your Majesty, you prepare the fruit salad, I prepare the rice and eggs to accompany the stew.”

Who knew that his wonderful plan of preparing breakfast would be ruined by Alastor beating him to the kitchen only to be incredibly improved by the two of them cooking together? Not him. But he loved the turn of events.

"I think it's amazing"
