Chapter Text
Out of countless possibilities of something happening the one happening currently is the one that’s been set to happen from the beginning . If one had chosen differently, how would the outcome differ, would it even change at all, there are things beyond our control and on the edge of it all, one can do only so much with the choices they are given. It wasn’t that these thoughts made home in Zara’s head but when they came in as the unannounced guests, they stayed for a while like those of the unwelcome one.
The life of Zara was but so simple. The 29 year old teacher was always busy, if it wasn’t grading her middle school student’s papers, it was talking (arguing) with her mother on the phone for hours on end. Although, She could use that time to do something else like tend to her already dead plants, she knows that it is something she has to do whether she likes it or not. Living alone is sometimes daunting to her even though she had always wanted to do that, to defy whatever boundaries she thought people placed on her. It is lonely, it gets lonely. All her friends are at different places scattered around the globe, reaching heights they had dreamed of. While she feels stuck at the same place doing the same things over and over again, not moving since she turned 26. Three years later, she is still at a standstill, at the same place. She feels incredibly small at a place that is already too small. The town that begins where it ends.
The gloom and doom wasn’t all that there was to her life. She was happiest she had been although a bit empty, which she chalks up to not being interested in forming any sort of connection to people around, because she is always on the run. She hasn’t done that in a while, run away. But one can never know.
It's just like any other story; this one also doesn’t start well into the deepest wells of the night. One night just like any other, Zara gets a phone call, an interesting one at that too. Is it someone from the past, resurfacing you can say that. There are a lot of things Zara can do, she can cut the call and be done with the chapter or she can listen to the person on the other end of the line, which in turn will open can of worms that Zara had long since buried so deep into the ground that it might’ve started to come out of the other side of the earth. Which seems to be happening. Well, Zara for one could make a sensible decision and cut the call, but Zara is an anxious person overall. She would end up thinking about the call not picked up for weeks on end and it’ll plague her mind like the mosquito waiting to bite. So she does it pick it up.
Worst decision of her life, probably, she thinks.
“Hello” Zara hopes she doesn’t sound anxious.
“Hi, um how are you?”, came the timid voice from the other side.
“Well” Zara says without asking anything in return, because why should she even bother.
“I know this is out of the blue, I need a favor, i could not think of anyone else”
Well well isn’t this lovely, Zara’s patience is running as thin as her already dead plants.
Zara laughs, “ You have some nerve asking me that”
“I am sorry, I really don’t know who else to go to”
“ Who is it this time?” Zara asks, sighing.
“benny “
“Fuck you, you did not just say that”
“It just happened okay, it wasn't me, it was bella this time i swear”
