Work Text:
"I always looked at the sky hoping that one day something would come and free me. But I know that's not why you're here."
"But what if it could be?"
"Why would a Jedi Master ever care for a slave woman and her son?"
"You judge the Jedi wrong. We serve the Force, but we must help those who need us too. That's what being a Jedi is about. And yes I'm a Jedi Master, but I'm also a woman. It hurts me to see how slavery is so much worse to us. It hurts me to see you suffering, Shmi."
Skywalker breaks down crying, but Quinn immediately comforts her.
"If you can't believe in the Jedi or the Force, please believe in me."
"That's why I'm crying, because I believe in you. You're giving me so much hope, Quinn. No one ever did this for me. I'm afraid it's all a dream."
"It isn't, Shmi. I may not have come here to free you, but that's what I'm going to do. I give you my word."
Shmi smiles with tears still falling from her eyes, but Quinn wipes them away. The Jedi takes the Skywalker's hands and kisses them. Shmi opened the doors of her house for the Jedi, and now she's considering on opening the doors of her heart too. Quinn's are already open ever since she saw Shmi for the first time. For the Jedi, compassion is a form of love. And Quinn feels unconditional compassion for that woman.
