Dirt Under My Pillow

Summary:

Derek absolutely loves how strange his kids are. How his son has this new imaginary....friend? Called The Dirt Man.

Based on that little Tiktok song.

Notes:

This is my first teen wolf fic and I wrote this in one sitting while fighting off sleep meds. So idk take it I guess?

Also yes I know it's short but I couldn't stop thinking about it and needed to get it done!

Work Text:

Derek felt the exhaustion in his bones when he finally fell into bed beside his sleeping husband. It was nearly four in the morning and he wanted to sleep for a year. Stiles grumbled as he was jostled but rolled over and snuggled back in to his body pillow. Derek kissed his temple and Stiles hummed in response. Derek settled in behind his mate and breathed him in.

He smelt extra earthy today and it would have put Derek to sleep if his neck and shoulders were not suddenly covered in tiny granuals of something. He went to wipe it away but there was suddenly more. And the earthy smell became stronger.

Dirt. He was covered in dirt.

"What the fuck?" He asked probably a little louder than necessary and Stiles hummed a questioning noise. "There is dirt in the bed." Derek said finally at an acceptable volume. "So he won't get you." Stiles mumbled like that explained anything.

"So who won't get me?"

"Dirt man." Stiles said and then he was out again. Maybe Derek should take the kids for the day because his mate has clearly lost his mind. Derek just brushed the rest of the dirt onto the floor and pulled Stiles close and let the darkness take them both.

"Daddy."

The voice was quiet but right in his ear. Derek dragged his eyes open to see blue ones centimeters from his face. He let out a yelp and sprung back in surprise as his son giggled at him. "Hi daddy." Eli chirped. "Hi pup." Derek grumbled in a groggy voice as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He heard Stiles half jogging up the stairs. "Shi- sorry Der. Eli I told you daddy was sleeping." He tried to lightly scold the four year old. "But it's morning time now!" Eli said loudly as he smiled and climbed onto his parents bed.

"Elias." Stiles said as he scrunched up his face as he tried not to roll his eyes in agitation at his toddler. "Ta." Eli said mocking him and causing Derek to snort.

"I had to protect him from the Dirt Man." Eli said matter of fact-ly. "The who?" Derek asked as he pulled his son into his lap. "The Dirt Man! He lives under the mountain and you need to give him dirt."

Derek just looked at Stiles in complete confusion. "You already put Dirt under daddy's pillow baby. And Dirt Man only comes at night," his husband said as he picked up Luke who had wobbled his way in and clung to his dad's sleep pants.

"But daddy's dirt was on the floor!" Eli said like that justified waking the man after nearly 3 hours of sleep. "Thanks for looking out for me pup." Derek ran a hand through his sons hair. Eli just beamed at him. "Can you make French toast now?"

"Eli!"

The boy just giggled but Derek waved Stiles off as he crawled out of bed with his son. "I'm so sorry Der, I told him to let you sleep." Stiles sighed but Derek just smiled and gave his lips a quick peck before heading downstairs into the kitchen.

Grayson was asleep in the play pen like Derek still wishes he was. He started to rummage through the cupboards as he gathered what he needed for breakfast.

He lazily made up the batter to coat the bread while he listened to his boys in the other room. "He has a giant layer in the mountain and he builds it out of dirt!" Eli excitedly explained this new character to his little brothers who both seemed to be encouraging him. Even Grayson, who couldn't talk yet, was making sounds of amazement.

Stiles came into the kitchen to start preparing a bottle for their youngest. "I have no idea where this Dirt Man came from but Eli was adamant that we had to sleep with dirt under out pillows like the tooth fairy or he was going to take us away." He sounded just as tired as Derek felt. "Now he's got the others in on it, and we will not get normal sleep for months, even now that Grayson sleeps through the night." He made a small laugh. "And you want more dirt covered monsters." He gave Derek a soft look.

After setting the first piece of bread down in the pan Derek wrapped his arms around his mate, pulling him in and rubbing a hand on his abdomen and he laid a kiss on his neck. "We still need a girl to name after your mother."

"Gray is not even a year old yet."

"Details."

"Derek."

The man just smiled and went back to making breakfast.

"Plus why stop at one Robin when we can have one of each?" Stiles kicked his shin. "You're not funny. I'll do it too."

"And that's why we should have more babies."

Stiles grumbled at realizing he had gotten played. But went about finishing making the bottle before returning to their sons. The children had started singing a song about this mystery figure and Eli must have been unbearable about it yesterday because Stiles sang along already knowing all the words.

He finished making breakfast while listening to his boys. They all gathered around the table and now that Grayson was fed he demanded to be held by Derek via screeching. He was all too happy to oblige as Stiles devoured his breakfast after helping cut it up for the kids.

"You should head back to bed, you were up late for negotiations." Stiles says as he trys to take his son back so that Derek can finish eating in peace. He just shook his head. "No. I want my babies." And that had Stiles practically melting. "I'm not a baby daddy." Eli said sternly as his nose wrinkled in a fake anger. "Of course not pup. Only big boys protect their family from The Dirt Man."

Eli nodded as that had satisfied him. "Can I color now?" He asked already getting down from the chair. "Only if you promise to use a coloring book this time." Stiles shot their son a look and the boy rolled his eyes "duh."

This had Derek laughing with his full chest. God their son was going to be a nightmare but he loved every single second of it. "Yeah, duh angel." He teased his husband trying to make the underlying flirtation obvious.

Stiles glowered at him, sending him a nasty look, but only for a moment. "I think Daddy needs to go to bed while you color." Derek nods in agreement. "Daddy will go to bed when he gets to have another baby."

"I hate you."

"No you dont."

"You want to keep me trapped in this house forever, away from human eyes." That got a laugh, but not a denial. Eli had already gone off to get his coloring book and crayons and Luke was sitting on the floor of the living room playing with a toy dump truck. Grayson was just content being held and laid his head on his father's chest and he looked to his other dad with a gummy smile.

"Damn it." Stikes muttered softly at the sight in front of him. "You win." Derek was smiling from ear to ear. "You hear that Gray? You're gonna be a big brother soon."

"No not soon, he's eight months old."

"Details."

Derek couldn't wait for sleepless mornings like this for the rest of his life.
