They find solace in each other in the years after their parents wed and Baela began to fall in love with Jace.
She took notice of it gradually over time as they matured and grew together. By then, they had been attracted to each other since childhood but never acted on it.
Baela wasn’t quite sure when it went from attraction to love and neither was Jace.
“Well I thought you were a sight to behold from the moment I saw you,” he said softly, making her blush. “But now that I think about it, I fell in love with you the moment you held my hand.”
“Is that so?” Baela muttered, sounding somewhat disbelieving.
Jace looked her in the eye and grabbed her hand firmly, just as she did all those years ago.
“Undoubtedly so,” he reassured her and Baela felt a burst of joy within her that remained well throughout the day.
Later, her father caught them, hand in hand and laughing at each other’s jests. She couldn’t even hide her smile when Daemon confronted her about it, looking incredibly amused.
“And when did this begin?”
“I don’t know for certain,” Baela said musingly. “Mayhaps, we’ve always loved each other.”
