    Buck stops mid-chop, the knife hovering in the air above the carrot he is slicing. "What? No. Why—why are they having lunch?"

    "I don't know! Mrs. Lee just said Jee has a stomachache, but she is okay, and she wanted to let me know that since Maddie is at her weekly lunch with your boyfriend."

    The knife falls to the cutting board with a clatter. "Weekly?!"
