Chapter Text
“Sing for Absolution”
Lips are turning blue
A kiss that can't renew
I only dream of you
My beautiful
Heero sat in a cold sweat in the cozy living room of Duo and Hilde’s shared residence on L2. He had awoken from the reoccurring nightmare he had been having since he had left the hospital 11 months ago. He sat there with his head in his shaking hands thinking about Relena and what the dream meant.
Tiptoe to your room
A starlight in the gloom
I only dream of you
And you never knew
ZERO had shown him a vision of Relena that had devastated him. Relena was standing in the middle of a battlefield fighting an unknown enemy. Heero was running toward her feeling uneasy. Before he could reach her, she was shot down. Blood, her blood, was pooling beneath her when he finally reached her. She looked beautiful even as she lay dying. Relena lovingly smiled up at him when she saw him. He bent down to pick her up telling her it was going to be okay. As Heero was about to pick her up he heard his own voice, which sent a chill down his spine.
Expressionless and cold Prussian blue eyes stared looking at both Relena and himself. He realized he was looking at himself. Heero pleaded with the other Heero as the barrel of a gun was aimed toward Relena. The other Heero responded with the threat he spoke to Relena long ago, “I will kill you.” As he pulled the trigger, Heero flinched at the sound. “Mission complete.”
With her last breath she mumbled “I love you Heero.” Her body faded into nothing.
Sing for absolution
I will be singing
Falling from your grace
This was usually the point where Heero would wake up in a cold sweat gasping for air. The dream felt so real to Heero that he swore he could feel Relena’s warm body as she lay dying in his arms.
Heero’s eyesight became blurry and he felt something warm on his face. Heero realized that he was crying. He had the urge to see Relena. To try and figure out what this dream meant.
There's nowhere left to hide
In no one to confide
The truth runs deep inside
And will never die
Heero had been trying to figure out what the dream meant on his own. Would he end up killing Relena? For a moment he wished that ZERO had not been destroyed so that he could try and see more. However, the gundams had been destroyed for good. ‘For the better.’

Duo noticed that Heero had been looking more haggard and tired lately. One night during dinner, Duo brought up the topic of how Heero had been looking like crap lately. Heero looked up from his meal and shot a weak glare in Duo’s direction and sighed.
Heero figured he could get Duo’s opinion on the nightmare. Heero had started having the dream on a nightly basis as of late and that had been contributing to his “crap” appearance. After he had finished recounting the details of the nightmare, Duo sat in silence for a minute processing all of the information.
When Duo finally spoke he gave him his honest opinion. “I wouldn’t get all strung up on all of the details of your dream Heero. It seems like ZERO showed you the vision not to feel regretful and wanting forgiveness, but maybe to show you how much you both care for one another.”

“That’s not possible. Relena had a fascination with me during the wars, but she couldn’t possibly feel that way. She can’t love me...”
“Why is that Heero? Why do you think it’s impossible for her to care about you? You care for her, don’t you? All those times you went to save her or be there for her must mean something.”
“I admire her for achieving her dream of peace.”
“Bullshit, Heero. You do love her and she cares for you as well. We have all seen it, but you are too hard headed to admit it.”

Falling from your grace
Heero has immersed himself in his work at the scrap yard trying to temporarily forget the dream, but it kept coming back distracting him to the point where he kept staring at his hands.
Duo and Hilde watched him from a distance, concern written clearly on both their faces. Hilde looked at Duo asking “Should we do something about this Duo? I’m starting to get more worried about him. Do you think we should call her?”
Duo responded in almost a whisper “Give him a few more days. If he hasn’t figured out the dream by then, we can talk about intervention.”
Our wrongs remain unrectified
And our souls won't be exhumed
