Two stalks of grass

Summary:

One descended from an immortal mountain, the other rose from a living hell.

One fought for the people, the subjet of poems and songs. The other fought too, spreading terror at the very mention of his name.

Nameless soulmates, estranged enemies. Bonded by a red string of fate.

They met, like two stalks of grass.

Work Text:

Born amidst heavenly snow, a stalk of grass atop the icy mountain, resiliant and pure. Rising towards the sun, strong and straight, but the breeze kept whispering about a whole world below the clouds.

You let go, willing to find that world down under, even when you knew you could never come back.

* * *

Born from a crack in the street, small and dirty and stubborn. Vermin to most, fighting to exist where you weren't wanted. One of many, in a city full of misery and dust.

They broke you, without thought, without remorse, without even a glance back. You were not important to them.

You promised yourself they would die with fear in their hearts and your smile reflected in they eyes.

* * *

You flew. Up high, through clear skies, lighter and faster like no other. The gentle breeze filled your wings, soaring far up, like the bright moon.

You found a friend, but you lost him. You found an enemy, but you lost him.

In the end, you even lost yourself.

* * *

You flew, taken by a fierce wind you clang to to leave the dusty ground behind. Your shadow grew larger over all others.

You avenged yourself from old grudges. You avenged yourself from new grudges.

Eventually, someone took their revenge on you.

* * *

Fallen from grace, you lost your way and simply drifted down the river of life.

Drifting... A single stalk of grass, aimless. Drifting...

And drifting, you found...

...another aimless stalk of glass, drifting, fallen, lost.

* * *

Nameless soulmates, estranged enemies. In darkness you met and found peace, forging a bond like you never knew.

Stranded by the shore, two stalks joined as one, far from the world and its troubles.

For three years, you had peace. Three blissful years of happiness.

Would it that it had lasted longer...
