"Ah, fuck, yes! Slide that shit in!"
"Almost there, Angel!"
"Ugh, fuck," Angel Dust moaned, "you're amazing."
"Damn, I've never seen anyone be so excited about watching somebody fill up an alcohol cabinet," Husk said with a laugh. He flicked a bottle of beer open and started downing it as Angel laughed, resting his bony elbows on the counter.
"You just do it so well," Angel cooed. "All those bottles just fit in there so perfectly."
Husk rested his furry arm on the counter opposite Angel and smiled at him, putting his half-empty bottle down. "I'll make sure to put 'cabinet organizing' on my resume, it's gonna mean so much coming from the most prolific whore in all of Hell." Both of them laughed and Angel put his hand on Husk's. "Well, if I ever end up needing a resume."
"Is it bad that I hope you never get your soul back?" asked Angel, to which Husk playfully smacked his hand away. "You're the one person keeping me sane in this fucking hotel."
"This is the sane version of you?" jested Husk, downing the rest of his beer. He got a laugh and a light slap from Angel in response. After putting his now-empty beer back on the counter, he saw Angel clearly ogling him. Angel simply couldn't help himself, with golden eyes against a black void, a strong-looking pair of long legs, and beautiful crimson wings, Husk looked like the man of his dreams and, in spite of himself, Husk got a kick out of Angel's infatuation with him. While he would never admit it in front of anyone but Angel himself, Husk reciprocated his feelings. Angel was funny, confident, authentic, and certainly not bad looking. The two knew they were attracted to each other but, wanting to hold up their tough-guy fronts, they didn't want any of their hotelmates to know. If any of them were to know, it would only be a matter of time before Charlie made a scrapbook for them, and neither of them wanted it.
Husk smiled at Angel Dust and rested his forearms on the counter. His hands met Angel's and their eyes made contact. Angel smiled softly and Husk confidently smirked. All thoughts of anything but each other left their heads and they leaned in for a kiss, an opportunity that rarely presented itself before the late hours of the night. Just as their lips were about to lock, a sound of high heels slapping the stairs interrupted them, and they quickly backed away from each other as a familiar high-pitched voice greeted them.
"Hi, Charlie," the two said in unison, prompting her to giggle.
"You two are so in-sync," said Charlie, sporting a mile-wide smile. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you two were dating."
Husk rolled his eyes and ducked down to clean the counter as Angel turned to Charlie. His eyes widened as he looked at her. "Woah, look at Charlie!" While he was annoyed at her for interrupting him and Husk, he couldn't deny how good she looked in the moment. A short ruby dress, garnet heels, and expertly done French braided hair made her, ironically, look like an angel. Charlie nervously scratched her face as Angel crossed his legs. "What's got you all dolled up?"
She sat down at the counter next to him and asked Husk for a glass of Chardonnay. Taking a sip, she answered, "My dad wanted to go out to this fancy restaurant with Vaggie and I. They still haven't met, like, formally, and he's desperate to make up for all the lost time."
"And are you dressed like that for Vaggie or for Daddy?" asked Angel, jokingly. Charlie angrily sprayed him with her wine as Husk laughed out loud. "Sorry, but you have to admit Luci's a good-looking guy," said Angel, to which Charlie threateningly held her glass up again. "Okay," he yelled, "point made. Where's Vaggie?"
"Niffty's doing her hair," Charlie answered, taking another sip of her wine.
"Did Niffty do yours, too?" Charlie nodded in response. "Damn, I didn't know she was into that shit."
"I didn't either, but as soon as I mentioned wanting to braid my hair, she jumped at the opportunity, which I was a little worried about since nothing was stopping her from stabbing me in the back of the head or something, but she did a good job."
"Who could ever figure her out?" asked Husk, opening another bottle of beer.
"Hey, share some of the wealth, you've already had one!" said Angel. Husk smiled at Angel and grabbed a glass so they could split the beer. Just as Charlie was about to comment on Husk's grin, a sound of tiny feet hopping on the stairs diverted everyone's attention. Niffty was happily skipping as Vaggie slowly walked down them, smiling at Charlie. With a black cocktail dress on and meticulously curled hair, she looked stunning.
"Looks like Charlie's gonna be going out with both Daddy and Mommy," Angel quipped and was met with a laugh from Husk.
Charlie sprayed him with the rest of the wine and ran over to Vaggie. "Babe, you look amazing!"
"You're welcome!" yelled Niffty.
Charlie patted her on the head then turned back around to kiss Vaggie. "Thanks babe," said Vaggie. "And thank you, Niffty, you did an amazing job."
"Oh, I know," said Niffty before hopping away back up the stairs.
The couple chuckled at Niffty. "I really hope I won't embarrass you," said Vaggie, brushing some hair off her face.
"Trust me, if anyone's gonna embarrass anyone, it's gonna be my dad." The two laughed then made their way down the stairs. As they approached the door, Charlie turned around and said to Angel and Husk, "Behave yourselves! We'll probably be back by 1." Husk laughed and Angel jokingly saluted, and Charlie and Vaggie left the hotel.
"So," Angel said, extending the o the way Husk once told him was cute. "The girls are out," he put his ivory hands back on the counter, "Alastor's asleep," he leaned closer toward Husk.
"I love the way you say 'Alastor,'" said Husk.
Angel put his index finger on Husk's lips. "Let me finish." He did not take his finger off of Husk's lips. "Niffty probably won't notice if anyone's gone." He put his other hand on Husk's. "We have at least until 1..." He left very little room between his head and Husk's. "And it's 10... Shall we do it?"
Husk grabbed Charlie's abandoned wine glass and started wiping it as Angel backed up slightly, but not enough to allow Husk not to feel the heat of his body. "I don't know... What if something happens and they come back early? Or we don't come back in time? Or, Hell, we bump into them?"
"I sincerely doubt Luci's gonna be taking his princess to the dumps we like to go out to," answered Angel.
"Well... I was thinking, if we were to ever go out again, we could go to a fancier place."
"Ah, fuck, you found out I've been saving up."
"You know you can't keep anything from me," Husk said with a slight laugh.
"Well, are we gonna be going or not?"
"Ugh, I'm still not sure, we could very easily get caught. Maybe we should just wait until they come back."
"Oh, come on! What are we gonna do in here for 3 hours by ourselves?" Husk smiled slyly and Angel and was met with a giggle. "Listen, it hits different after we go out." Husk reluctantly nodded in agreement. "Please," Angel said with his chin on his hands.
"Fuck! Don't go into begging mode," said Husk, only half-jokingly. Angel puckered his lips and puffed his eyes, seemingly on command. "Ugh, I can't pretend I don't like it when you beg."
"Pleeeaaasssseeee," Angel moaned, clutching Husk's paws.
"All right, fine, I basically have to know," answered Husk, putting away Charlie and Angel's glasses.
"I win!" Angel shouted, then planted a kiss on Husk's lips. Husk didn't resist it for a second. "All right... We just need to make sure we don't end up going to the same place Charlie's going to."
Husk put his hand on his chin and squinted his eyes.
"Something on your mind?"
"NIFFTY!" shouted Husk.
The little demon suddenly fell through the air vent. "At your service!"
Angel and Husk looked at each other confused, then Husk put Charlie's glass up to Niffty's nose. "Can you tell me where Charlie is?" Niffty sniffed the spot where Charlie put her lips, then dashed out of the hotel at blazing speeds. Angel looked at Husk, confused. "I recently found out she could do that. Just accept it."
No sooner than she left did Niffty come running back in. "She's in The Mastema, a 5-star restaurant on 13th Street." She then hopped off into another room without saying a word.
"That could come in handy in the future," said Angel, leaning on the counter and smiling at Husk.
"Well, now we know where not to go."
Husk left his room wearing a black tuxedo over a white button-up. He had leather shoes on, and his onyx pants left little to Angel's imagination. "Angel, I'm ready!"
"I'm coming!"
"Already?"
Angel laughed aloud, "Shut the fuck up!" he yelled, jokingly. About a minute after, he left the room with a short and tight-fitting navy blue vest over an even tighter black shirt. Husk eyed him and Angel basked in the attention.
"Lookin' good," said Husk.
Angel seductively walked over to him. "I know." He then walked over behind Husk and scratched his chest. "You're not so bad yourself."
Husk grabbed Angel's hands. "Already hungry, huh?" asked Husk. Angel planted a kiss on Husk's cheek and the latter kissed him back, taking charge. "All right, there'll be time for that when we come back. Let's go eat!"
"And get drunk," quipped Angel.
Husk nodded with a smile. "Of course."
The two left through the fire exit to avoid Niffty and made their way to a luxurious restaurant. Baphomet's, named after the demon who's known for embodying contrasting concepts. Androgynous, good and evil, animal-human hybrid. The interior of the restaurant reflected what Baphomet was all about. Bright and colorful stained glass windows of Satanic imagery, black walls and chairs with white patterns and cloth, calm and relaxing songs with dark lyrics playing through the speakers, almost relaxing enough to distract you from the fact that half of the attendees are fighting. It was a sight to behold, a perfect place for a first "real" date.
Angel and Husk sat down and ordered their drinks. Husk ordered an absinthe and Angel a vodka. Once the waiter brough them the drinks, the two exchanged mischievous grins. After the waiter walked away, the two emptied the glasses of water they were also given. "You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" asked Angel. Husk simply nodded. Angel poured half of his vodka into the now-empty glass, then Husk topped it off with half of his absinthe. They did the same with Husk's glass. "Bottom's up!" Angel said, standing up and then quickly sitting back down, prompting Husk to laugh aloud.
"I fucking love you," Husk said as Angel guzzled the concoction. Angel choked on the drink. "What's wrong?" asked Husk.
"It's fucking awful! But I'm still gonna finish it. And also..."
"What?" Husk asked as he picked his own glass up and sipped.
"I rarely hear you say that."
Husk's eyes widened and he put his drink down.
"You don't like it?" asked Angel.
"Oh, no, it's great, but... Sorry. I never noticed. I'm... not a man of many words."
"Ah, sorry babe, I didn't mean it as a bad thing-" Angel put his hand on the table and Husk touched his own to it.
"Nah, don't apologize, doll. I should be apologizing..."
Angel put another hand on Husk's and continued drinking with his other two hands. "I love it when you call me 'doll.'"
Husk put his other hand on Angel's. "I should be calling you that more."
Angel was holding his drink with only one hand at this point, but instead of continuing the stack of hands, he touched Husk's cheek. "I'm just happy you're here for me."
Husk exhaled and his eyes looked to be tearing up. "You... deserve more than someone who's just there for you." Husk removed his hands from their stack and touched the hand Angel was holding his cheek with. "You're the strongest person I've ever known, and I've lived a lot of years."
Smiling and tearing up himself, Angel pulled Husk's hands back into the stack. "I couldn't've become the man I am now if I didn't have you."
Husk quietly exhaled and looked right below Angel's eyes. "I helped push ya there, but you still worked on yourself. Most people down here just give up. More people don't even try, but you do."
Angel visibly blushed. "Thank you, babe. I..."
"You don't hear encouragement enough?" asked Husk, to which Angel nodded. Husk squeezed his lover's hand tighter and said, almost in whisper, "Some people just don't recognize greatness when they see it."
Angel linked each of his fingers with Husk's. "I..." A tear emerged on his face.
"What?"
"... I love you, Husk. I don't know if I've ever loved anyone like I love you."
The two stared at each other, smiling from ear to ear. "I... love you too, Angel."
The pair quickly leaned back into their chairs when the waiter came back to ask for their order. They ordered a chocolate sundae each, a mutual favorite, then spent the rest of the evening telling each other sweet nothings, complimenting every little thing about the other, and feeding each other.
"I love the way your nose twitches when you eat," said Angel.
"You keep playing with your hair while chewing," said Husk. "I love it."
"Your paws are so soft."
"I love the way you say 'paws.'"
"Fuck, I keep getting lost in your eyes."
"Are you rubbing your leg against mine?" asked Husk. Angel nodded. "Keep going."
"Your fur keeps poking out from behind your ears."
"If only someone would fix that," Husk joked.
"I can try," said Angel, reaching over to run his fingers through Husk's hair.
The couple eventually lost track of time. "Shit!" yelled Angel. "It's midnight! They might be back already!"
"Relax, doll, Charlie said they'd be back at 1."
"Lucifer's dumb ass probably did something to force them to leave early."
Husk laughed and Angel grabbed his hand. "We should get going!"
Husk's eyebrows twitched before he said, "All right, this one's on me." He then pulled out a $100 bill and placed it on the table, then got up.
"Aw, baby, you shouldn't have! Here," Angel reached for some money in his pocket, "we can split!"
Husk stopped him. "No, babe, it's okay!" He leaned over to whisper into Angel's ear. "You've been such a good boy."
Angel's knees buckled. "You know," he said, "if Charlie and those other two aren't back yet... we'll still have the hotel to ourselves for an hour."
"I know."
The two exchanged a cheeky grin then made their way out of the restaurant. They practically ran to the hotel, the uncertainty of whether or not they'd have it to themselves was unbearable. Upon opening the door, they saw Niffty asleep on the couch. Alastor was asleep in his room, and there was no sign of Charlie, Vaggie, or Lucifer anywhere. The two made their way into Husk's room and made the most of the hour they had left. It wasn't an unusual occurence, but something about tonight felt special. Perhaps a good omen for their relationship.
"Think you can make it a whole hour?" teased Angel, lying on the bed.
"Keep smiling like that and I just might."
