Law was sitting behind Kyros and Rebecca’s cottage enjoying the smell of the flowers in the moonlight and the quiet cool breeze of the night. His hand was around his arm where it was cut off and then bandaged while his other hand gripped Kikoku on his shoulder, ever waiting for her master to wield her. Law squeezed the bandage wincing at the pain; he knew it was stupid to do but the pain meant feeling, meant he survived this suicidal mission. Guess the silent farewell to Bepo, Shachi and Penguin could be forgiven. Law lifted his head slightly, looked up from under the brim of his hat to look at the person approaching him. Golden tired eyes meeting warm hazel. Law sighed, as he felt his heartbeat speeding up and his cheeks warm slightly. ‘Something is wrong with me.’
"You really shouldn't be moving around Mugiwara-ya. Your injuries are serious." Law scolded but still shuffled to the side, before placing Kikoku against the house, a bit away from him but close enough to grab if something happened. Luffy watched Law shuffle and before plopping on the ground, holding his beloved straw hat on his head. Law glared at how roughly Luffy sat to which Luffy smiled brightly. "Shishishi, I know. But I wanted to be with you Torao." Luffy laughed, chest rumbling from the laugh before he winced slightly at a stitch being pulled on his chest. Law glared at that and went to check the bandage making Luffy shiver at how soft Law's hands were. "Does it hurt that bad? Are you okay?" Law muttered softly, noticing how Luffy's body shivered when Law touched him. Luffy glanced up at Law and noticed how worried Law looked. His golden eyes filled with a soft look that made Luffy's heart pound, stomach flip and his chest warm.
"It hurts..but you'll make it feel better Torao. You're a doctor aren't you?" Luffy teased, hand going to touch Law's own bandaged chest. Luffy gently touched Law’s bandaged chest and traced where his chest tattoo was. Law felt his heart speed up but let Luffy touch him. It felt nice, Luffy’s hand. Law was in a good mood and decided to indulge Luffy’s touches, mentally ignoring how Luffy would touch him whether he wanted him to or not.
Law chuckled, feeling a smile slip on his lips at Luffy’s cheeky reply. "Yes I am a doctor," Law replied, grabbing Luffy's hand from his chest and waved his hand, "yet I feel like you won't listen to my orders. Even if they are good for you."
Luffy pulled back and laughed, cheeks spreading wide. "Of course! I do what I want. But if it's Torao then I might listen."
Law removed Luffy’s straw hat, letting it dangle against Luffy’s back before ruffling his black soft hair and said, "Brat."
Luffy laughed loving Law's huge hand touching him. Luffy looked at Law, eyes soft as Law removed his hand and sat his hand close to Luffy’s. Their pinkies kept briefly touching but neither of them made the final move to link their hands, just content with the briefest of touches. Fleeting, like a flower blooming for one small moment before disappearing forever.
They fell back into comfortable silence, both overlooking the battered and torn city of Dressrosa from Doflamingo's birdcage. Luffy leaned his head and rested it on Law’s shoulder which made Law tense briefly before looking down and rested his own head on Luffy’s. Luffy grabbed Law's hand, spreading his fingers and traced the tattoo adorned on his fingers and back of his hand. Law lifted his head back up, and glanced down, eyeing how beautiful Luffy looked in the moonlight. His tan skin having a silvery glow from the moon and his hazel eyes shining, reflecting Law’s face back at him. Law felt his heartbeat speeding up and he swallowed dryly, his emotions coming at him full force now that the threat of Doflamingo was gone. Law closed his eyes, letting the full force of his emotions wash over him, no matter how painful they were. He knew this would happen ever since he reunited with Luffy back at Punk Hazard, ever since he saw those eyes wide with righteous anger punching a Celestial Dragon for harming his friend back at Sabaody two years ago. 'I truly do love him.'
Law let him move his hand as Luffy pleased, enjoying how Luffy's hand fit his like a glove. Luffy got bored of fiddling with Law's hand and instead entwined it with his own, gripping Law's hand tight. Law squeezed back, making Luffy smile into Law’s shoulder before frowning. Law tilted his head at his sunshine’s frown. ‘He looks better smiling.’ Law thought.
"You know Torao...when I saw Mingo shoot you..My heart stopped. It felt like it broke, shattered into another million pieces. It felt like Ace all over again. Another person I cared about died right in front of me and I was too weak to stop it."
Luffy felt tears gather in the corner of his eyes and bit his lip trying to stifle the sobs. "I.." Luffy choked out, making Law look at Luffy. Law tenderly grabbed Luffy’s face cupping his cheek soft and tenderly, before wiping away a stray tear. "I thought I’d lost you." Luffy gasped out, making more tears fall from his eyes. “Please Torao, please promise me that you won’t die! I love you too much for you to leave me too!” Luffy gasped out. His sobbing made it hard for him to talk.
Law’s eyes went wide at the declaration before softening and his heart ache at the sight. Luffy was always smiling, full of confidence, and happiness. The only time he saw Luffy like this was during his brother’s death which was understandable. But then 2 years later, Luffy was back up and carefree as ever. Law gently grabbed Luffy and pulled him into Law’s lap. Law then wrapped one arm around Luffy’s waist, rubbing the skin in a calming motion and delicately held Luffy’s chin before kissing Luffy, soft but full of passion. Luffy closed his eyes, and wrapped his arms around Law’s shoulders. Law pulled back making Luffy whine; he wiped away the stray tears streaming down his face. “I love you too Lu-ya. And I’m not going anywhere sweetheart. We made an alliance to defeat Kaido and I promise you I’m not dying anytime soon. You gave me my will to live back, I plan to enjoy it.” Law softly said, still wiping away the tears. His voice was full of promise and dedication.
Luffy nodded and nuzzled into Law’s hand. “Mm. I believe Torao.” Luffy whispered before looking at Law’s golden eyes.
Law softly chuckled, “Does my baby want another kiss?”
Luffy flushed at the nickname making Law chuckle. It was a rare sight seeing one such as Luffy flustered and speechless. Luffy glared but nodded; he wrapped his arms around Law’s neck again and pulled into another kiss. Then another, then another. They spent several hours just sitting in the moonlight, kissing and enjoying the comfort only two people could bring to each other.
Law pulled back from giving Luffy another hickey and licked it. Luffy’s neck was filled with blotches of purple and red looking like got devoured. Law’s neck and chest weren’t fairing much better. Luffy is a biter after all. Law, knowing their time was coming to an end, kissed Luffy one more time on the lips. “I love you Lu-ya. My sunshine. And again, I promise you I will stay alive. Even after this alliance is over.” Law declared.
Luffy smiled and nodded. “I love my Torao too! And you better stay alive! You gotta see me be King of the Pirates!”
Law laughed, a true genuine laugh which made Luffy smile as well. His Torao truly looked the best smiling.
