Work Text:
He sighed, letting his head drop. A little lower, a little more, just a tiny bit more to get comfortable an-
Bang!
He sprung upright and looked around, hoping no one saw him banging his head on the desk.
No one had. All eyes were still on the Professor going on with her lecture.
Oh good.
“-and that’s all for today.”
Wait! That was it? Had he missed the entire lecture? Didn't it start just a couple of minutes ago?
He groaned, throwing his head back. Oh god, he was tired.
“Don’t forget to submit your research on community dance this Friday. The system will not accept any submission after midnight and I will not tolerate computer or wifi excuses.”
Felix groaned again, curbing a tired yawn. Friday was just 2 days away and he hadn’t even started.
He hated university.
“Professor Na, a professor in the Visual Arts course is giving leeway if we participate in the upcoming festival fundraising. Any way I can get a deal like that?” Kim Jeongwook asked. Felix turned to him lazily.
The professor shot him a sweet smile, “Sure. If you know how to bake. If not, you are writing the paper.”
Before Jeongwook could even answer, Felix jumped up, sitting straight, “I can bake!”
If the entire class wasn’t looking at him earlier for banging his head, they sure as hell were looking now.
“Can you?” the professor asked, raising a brow.
Hesitantly, Felix nodded, “I used to bake back in my hometown. I can bake.”
The professor slowly nodded, “Meet me in the Staff Room after 5 pm. We can discuss the details.”
“Yes, Prof.”
he tried his best to ignore Jeongwook's glare as he walked out of the class.
“You are what?!” Jisung demanded.
Felix grinned, “I’m going to bake 150 brownies!”
Jisung looked down at the stuff lying on their shared living room floor. Flours of different brands, at least 2 dozen eggs and so much more. He picked up a bottle of vanilla extract.
“Did you buy this?”
“Nope. Everything was donated.”
“Who donated 200 ml of vanilla extract?!”
Felix shrugged.
“This is insane.” Jisung muttered, putting the bottle down, “And that’s coming from me. How the hell are you going to bake 150 brownies?”
“I need to make five or six batches.”
“Are you the only one doing this whole thing?”
“Uh…no. Choi Soobin of Arts Management and Yeh Shuhua from Dance Theory are doing 150 each. Cookies and something I think.”
“Would guys be even able to sell…that much?”
“Guess we’ll see." Felix grinned, "I’m looking forward to this.”
Jisung rolled his eyes, sitting down on the couch, mindful of the things. “Oh don’t tell me you are that passionate about a stupid fundraising.”
“I’m not. This is my get-out-of-writing-an-assignment card.”
Jisung blinked, looked at the things and then back at him, and then scoffed, “....good luck. I’m going to bed.” he got up and left.
“Don’t be jealous!”
“Fuck off!”
Baking 150 brownies was not an easy task. But Felix was pretty proud of standing here, with trays of his brownies on the table they had set up near the Dance building.
Shuhua just finished setting up her table, having made small caramel custards.
“Hey! Hi! Choi Soobin. How late am I?” he asked, heaving, catching his breath, bags in his arms.
“Quite on time. I’m Felix. That's Shuhua. Sale starts at 9, so you have about…” he checked his watch, “15 minutes.”
“Sweet. I got chocochip cookies!”
The bake sale garnered a decent crowd in a couple of hours, in the midst of the thrumming fest filled with students.
The current customers took their brownies, thanked them, and left and Felix turned to the next ones, “Hi, how many brownies can I get you?”
“Three, please.”
“Three brownies…” Felix flipped the calculator, “That is ₩2600 times 3…₩7800. Cash or Card?”
“Cash.” the girl answered and handed him the money. He quickly counted it before putting it in the tin box and putting three brownies in a take-out box.
He handed the box to the girl, who smiled, thanked him, and left with her friends.
“Hi. What can I get…you…?”
Felix blinked. His mouth suddenly went dry.
In front of him stood a guy he had never seen before, who also was the most perfect guy Felix had ever set his own two brown orbs on.
He smiled and…oh my god he had dimples.
SOS!
The guy had dimples.
Felix gulped.
Who the fuck was he? Was he a student? Was he just passing by? What was going on?
“Hi,” the guy chuckled and holy hell, even his accent was hot. It was so much better than his but there was a tinge of something foreign he couldn’t put his finger on. “Can I get two brownies please?”
Felix blinked. “Two brownies…?” he trailed off
“Yes.” the guy nodded
Felix looked down, shook his head, and picked up the calculator, “That would be ₩5200. C-Cash,” he cleared his throat, “Cash or card?”
The guy fumbled in his bag, most probably trying to find his wallet.
“I’m sorry about this,” he mumbled, rummaging through his things. "I know I put my wallet here."
“Don’t be…” Felix muttered. Why would this man be sorry for anything? If anything, he should be sorry for not showing up earlier in Felix’s life.
Please be single. Please be single. Please be single.
“Got it!” he grinned and oh my god those dimples were back. Someone better kill him now before this man does.
He pulled out a card. “Card.”
Felix nodded and entered the amount in the card machine before turning it around for him.
Once the payment was approved, he turned and grabbed a takeaway box and put two brownies inside before handing it to him.
“Thank you. You are so sweet.” the man chuckled, taking the box.
“I’m Felix.”
And suddenly his face felt hot.
The guy blinked before grinning. “Hi, Felix. I’m Chan. So...what’s the fundraising for?”
Felix blinked. What was the fundraising for, again?
“Uhm…it’s for the..you know the new, uhm-”
“It’s for the new performance hall.” Soobin stepped in, “Is there anything else I can get you? Chocochip cookies?”
“Thank you. But not today,” he showed the box with brownies, “I got enough for the day.”
“Right. Enjoy!” Soobin nodded
“Thanks.” Chan smiled and turned to him, “So…did you get the recipe off the internet or is it your own?”
“My mother taught me.”
“Ah, a mother’s recipe always comes through.” he chuckled, opened the box, and took a bit from one of the brownies.
He moaned. He fucking moaned!
Felix gulped again, gripping the table. If he moaned from a brownie like that, how would he moan if Felix did the things he wanted to do to him?
Please be single.
Chan swallowed and then looked at him with a smile. “I am single.”
Felix blinked. “What?”
“You said it out loud.”
.
.
.
.
Felix would rather the ground open up right now and swallow him.
Chan put the rest of the brownie in his box, “I finish my classes at 4. Would you still be around?”
“Uh, yeah, yeah, I should be round.” his eyes widened, “I mean around. Yes, I should be around. Yeah.”
“Great! I’ll see you around then.”
“All day you are this chirpy little bird and the moment a handsome guy walks in, you can’t speak?” Soobin laughed, during their little fifteen-minute break.
“What?” Shuhua giggled.
“Come on!” Felix grumbled, poking his food. “He was so much more than handsome, okay?” he sighed
“Do you even know if he’s single?” Shuhua asked
Felix lowered his head further, “He is.”
“Did you ask him?” Soobin’s eyes widened
“Cut me some slack, okay?!” Felix snapped, his face getting warmer and warmer.
“Oh, you poor thing. Everything will be fine.” Shuhua tsked while Soobin patted his head, only for Felix to curl further into himself.
The bake sale after the lunch break garnered more attention. Felix was down to his last tray and he was quite happy about it. The bake sale was supposed to end at 4 PM and the way people were buying their goods, they'd be done by then.
“Hey, the poster is coming off.”
Soobin, the tallest of the three, leaned over to see that one side of the poster had indeed come off, flapping in the wind with no support. He quickly walked around and started trying to fix it without ripping it off.
“Hey, Felix!”
Felix handed the customers their box of brownies before turning to Soobin.
“What?”
“Handsome guy alert. To the right.”
Felix blinked and turned to the right. Chan wasn’t there.
“My right!” Soobin whispered, getting the attention of a couple of customers, resulting in a sheepish expression.
Felix turned left and sure enough, Chan was making his way to the bake sale.
“Can I get my two brownies now?”
Felix slightly jumped, having completely forgotten about the customer.
“Right. Sorry. Two brownies, yes.”
Felix had been doing the bake sale roughly for the past six hours.
And of all times he could have fumbled, it had to be when Chan was coming around.
First, he fumbled picking out a container from the tower of containers he had near him, almost toppling the said tower, but somehow gracefully (Shuhua and Soobin would disagree but Felix would suggest ignoring them) managing not to.
Then he fumbled putting two brownies in the container, dropping one on the ground. The first one in the whole day.
“Sorry.” Felix winced, quickly replacing it, and almost thrusting the box into the customer’s hand.
“Don’t let the cute guy affect you,” Shuhua muttered, walking past him to get more containers for herself.
Felix just rolled his eyes before turning his attention to the next customer. Just as he was picking up their order, he realized that there were only ten brownies in total left.
He quickly put one in a container and kept it aside before picking out the next order.
Quarter to four and the crowd in the fest started thinning.
“These are the last three brownies. Have fun!”
“Thank you,”
“Wait, that’s it?” the guy next in line asked
Felix winced, “Yeah, sorry, I’m out of brownies. We do have some last remaining pieces of cookies and custards left.”
The line in front of his brownie table slowly started dispersing and Felix started cleaning his table.
“So…that is it, huh?”
He almost fumbled the tray he was holding, the cover toppling but he managed to grab it.
Chan was smiling at him.
“Uh, yeah. That’s it.” he slowly answered.
“Oh, that’s sad. I was hoping to get a last one. They are really good.” he pouted, his thick juicy lower lip jutting out and Felix again started having unholy thoughts.
“About that,” Felix kept the trays down and turned to Chan, picking up the one container he had kept aside. “I saved one for you.”
Chan’s eyes widened like Christmas had come early.
“₩2600 right?”
“On the house.”
Chan stopped midway of fetching his wallet, “Really?”
“Yeah. Last piece. You don’t have to pay.”
“I’ll feel bad taking something for free from a fundraising.”
“Trust me a multi-billion won project is not going to miss a couple thousand. Take it.”
“If you insist.” Chan hesitantly took the box.
“It’s also for all the embarrassing stuff I did earlier.” Felix sheepishly added.
“Like what? Wishing I was single.” he chuckled, “I would hardly call it embarrassing.”
Felix folded his arms, “Must be nice to be that attractive that you are used to it.”
Chan leaned forward, a teasing smile on his lips, the table being the only thing separating them, “Must be nice being this attractive that you make me thank god for being single.”
Felix felt his face warm up.
“You are cute when you blush.” Chan giggled and Felix felt his face get warmer.
“So, uhm, you a student here?” Felix asked, vaguely noticing the other two cleaning their tables too.
“Yup. I’m doing a postgraduate in Composition. What about you?”
“Choreography undergrad. I took composition last year.”
“Composition's fun.” he grinned, “I can’t dance. Two left feet and all.”
Suddenly Felix felt two hands over his shoulders from behind, steadying him.
“Felix is a great dancer. We saw his dance videos. You should come to see his performances sometimes. I promise it’ll be worth it. We are going.”
Felix would reiterate his request for the ground to open and swallow him.
“Really?” Chan grinned and Soobin nodded before looking at him, a sheepish grin on his face, “Would that be alright?”
Soobin squeezed his shoulder and patted his butt before walking away.
“Yeah. If you want to.” Felix hesitantly added.
“Great!” Chan grinned, “Do you think I could get brownie points if took you to dinner after that? Whatever you are in the mood for.”
Felix blinked. “Dinner? Whatever happened to the coffee stage?” he chuckled
Chan reached and rubbed the back of his head, the sheepish expression returning to his handsome visage, “I was hoping I could take you to coffee now. If you have time.”
Felix licked his lips. “Uhm, yea-”
“Lee Felix!”
Before Felix could react, something collided with his body, grabbing his biceps.
“Please tell me you have at least one brownie left!” Jisung looked panicked, “I’ve been hearing about your brownies the whole day and please please tell me there is one. I will even take the crumbs.”
Felix reached to pat the boy’s back, “Sorry Sung. I just gave out the last one.”
Jisung whined and slumped, causing Felix to reach and grab him, “Some best friend you are.”
“Wait. You are Felix? The Sydney Felix? I guess the freckles should have been a giveaway.”
Felix turned to Chan. “What?”
Jisung stiffened, slowly pulling to look at Chan too, “Chan hyung? What are you doing here?”
“Getting brownies…”
“You two know each other?”
“Chan hyung is the guy I’m working under for my year-end project.”
“He’s the hot Aussie composer you were telling me about?!” Felix’s eyes widened
“Ugh…I’m right here?”
The two flushed and quickly pulled away.
“You know what?” Chan started, “Here, take this. I had Felix’s brownies earlier.” Chan smiled, handing Jisung his container.
“Are you sure?”
“Yup.”
Jisung all but snatched it, grinning before looking at the other two. “By the way, Chan hyung, Felix loves Macchiato and Chan hyung doesn’t drink coffee but should be good with bubble tea. You both would like bubble tea. Thank me later.” with that he left.
“So…” Chan began, “Bubble tea?”
Felix chuckled, “Sounds good. Let me jus-”
“We’ll take care of the money and stuff.” Shuhua said, grabbing the money box and card machine, Soobin standing next to her, “Get your ass to this date.”
Felix smiled, “Thanks.” he turned to Chan, “The lady has spoken.”
“Shall we?” Chan extended his hand.
“Yeah.”
Who knew baking to get out of assignments would get him a date with the most handsome guy he had ever seen?
