Work Text:
As the battle between Xehanort’s Thirteen Darknesses and the Guardians of Lights wages on a moment of respite is allowed to 3 Keyblade wielders, once separated but at last allowed to be together. Words are hard to come by and in their stead tears tell the tale, of what had been longed for.
“Hope you don’t mind that I didn’t bring ice cream with me this time, was a little busy here and there, you know.” Lea jested, attempting to wipe the tears off his face just as the two young Keyblade wielders did.
“Don’t worry about it, Axel, oh, I mean Lea. Looks like I’ll have to get that memorized, huh?” Roxas said, mimicking Lea’s trademark gesture.
Xion giggled. “Roxas is right, so don’t sweat it Lea. We’ll have time for that later, right now we gotta recover our strength before catching up with Sora and the others.”
Roxas agreed with Xion, and in turn Lea placed his hands on his friends’ heads.
“Well look at you my favorite pipsqueaks, so determined, collected and ready to go. Heh, and I thought I was supposed to be the grown-up here. You’re right, but before that I say you rest for a little bit. Can’t have you heading straight into Xehanort and his crew if you’re in no condition to fight.”
As he finished speaking Lea let out a little groan, which prompted Roxas and Xion to help him sit down.
“Look who’s talking, you better take your own advice Mr Tough Guy and take a breather.” Roxas said, holding Lea with Xion’s help.
“Fair enough.” Lea sighed. “Alright then, just give me a moment and we’ll catch up with Sora and the rest. Man oh man, Xemnas sure kicked my butt, ouch. But… you two saved me, well done kiddos.”
“That’s what friends are for. Perhaps I should even add that we’ll always be there to bring you back.” Xion proclaimed.
“Pulling no punches, eh? What am I to do with you two? Alright, alright, your old buddy Lea’s gonna catch his breath so go and stretch for a bit while I stay here a little longer.”
Roxas and Xion obliged just as Lea was switching from sitting down to laying on the floor, hand supporting his head and closing his eyes.
As they walked for a bit in the vicinity, Xion suddenly stopped, bringing her hands to her chest, with a look in her eyes that resembled reminiscence.
“Something the matter, Xion?”
“No, it’s nothing bad. It’s just… I never thought this would ever be possible, about me, about us. To exist, to be remembered, to be here with you and Lea, it feels like the wildest of dreams…”
“Xion.” Roxas closed the gap between them, extending his right arm to her. Noticing his action Xion reacted to it, reaching to Roxas, holding his aforementioned hand with her left. At that very moment Roxas immediately held her right hand with his left.
“Do you feel it? It’s like moments ago with Lea, this ain’t a dream, this is real! We’ve been given a new chance and we can finally be, and no one can take this from us!”
“Roxas, I… I…” As tears welled up in Xion’s eyes, she enveloped Roxas in a strong hug, filled with sincere care, her voice breaking due to the flood of emotions.
Reciprocating Xion, Roxas hugged her as well, tears flowing in the same way as Xion’s, allowing themselves to let their emotions take control, embracing their long awaited reunion, their minds reminiscing of those days spent together as members of Organization XIII and rejoicing at their bond, at being together after so long.
“I wanna be with you, Xion. Always.” Roxas whispered.
“Me too, Roxas.” Xion whispered as well.
The two gave themselves some extra time together until they decided it was time to continue onward as the Keyblade Graveyard battle was far from over. And so they headed with Lea, having found a renewed strength of heart together.
End.
