All the Librarians were considered clever. It was part of what it meant to be a Librarian. There was more to it than being book smart. One had to be able to apply that knowledge in a useful and productive way. Most saw that factor immediately in Librarians like Jacob and Cassandra. But not Ezekiel. They saw what he projected to the world which was what he wanted. But he was able to outsmart and think through all sorts of problems.
Even those the others couldn't.
But even though he proved that he was just as capable as them it was forgotten. He was good enough that even they often forgot what he was capable of. That he could out think them. He was able to get through situations that stumped the others. Just because he wasn't full of facts didn't mean anything. He was able to get into things that the others only dreamed of without getting caught.
Then there was always the moment that the others all remembered what Ezekiel could do. They would praise and use the skills he had in that moment. Tell him that he was the cleverest of them. And then proceeded to forget.
