Chapter 1: Hushabye

Chapter Text

Saionji Ukyo is a young twenty-something sonar operator for the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces who is indisputably the best at his job due to his fantastic hearing and well honed skills. However, said hearing is also a major pain for him, since it means he’s prone to sensory overload and not everyone is very understanding about it.

After a morning full of far too much stimulus and inconsiderate comments, Ukyo’s headphones are possessed by an akuma and he’s transformed into Hushabye, a villain themed after an owl who basically turns all of Tokyo into the movie A Quiet Place so that he won’t ever have to deal with noise ever again.

Anyone who makes a sound that Hushabye can detect (and he can hear a lot) is swiftly hunted down and transformed into another owl creature to hunt down other offenders. Carmine and Kurodora have to find alternate ways of communicating besides talking to get by, making use of writing, pictures, and JSL.

After they track down and purify the akuma, Kurodora gives Ukyo some tips on where to find high quality noise cancelling headphones that might help him out, which he’s very grateful for. Ukyo then squints at the heroes and says, “you know, I don’t really follow your guys’ activity, but now that I’ve seen you up close…how old are you?”

They swiftly dodge the question and abscond before Ukyo can prod them further, leading him to realize with some horror that they might be rather young.
