Cheng Xiaoshi is the time,
and Lu Guang is the light.
The light can be described as both a wave and a particle, but the most important thing is that the light likes to travel.
The light needs time to travel, and he can travel at a really high speed! He tends to move from one bright star to visit any nearby object in space, especially the planet, because light is needed to make life possible.
At this point, light and time are inseparable. Light always brings time wherever he goes. Together, they describe this thing called distance.
The distance that the light went through in his travel is called light years. Which means the time taken for light to travel from the star to any space objects. They are inseparable, yet they feel so far from each other, existing in different dimensions.
Light exists in the third dimension, while time exists in the fourth dimension. An invisible barrier keeps them separated from each other, a thin mirror between their joined palms. It's suffocating. The light has known that time exists alongside him, and yet he feels like he doesn't belong at the time's side.
Lu Guang shouldn't be here at Cheng Xiaoshi's side; it's not his place to be. It doesn't feel right.
The light knows that there are multiple instances of time; sometimes the time that he has to take is short, and sometimes it's long. But the time gave him the same familiar feeling.
There are multiple versions of Cheng Xiaoshi that he encountered. Sometimes the time that Lu Guang has with him is short, and sometimes it lasts for long.
On the other hand, the time thought that his existence was meaningless if he didn't have the light at his side. Without light traveling from one spot to another, nobody cares about the time. Without the star's light traveling to the planet, nobody on that planet cares about the time. So it was decided that he would reach out to the light, hoping that he would feel less lonely on his travels that way.
If there's a possibility of Cheng Xiaoshi never meeting Lu Guang, he would feel that his existence is meaningless. Nobody would tell him that he has a power that can help people, and maybe with that power he can search for his parents’ whereabouts. It almost feels like a coincidence, but Cheng Xiaoshi always reaches out for Lu Guang. In every timeline, he was the one who initiated their relationship through a simple game of basketball.
Enveloped by the darkness of the empty space, the two stay inseparable.
One day, when some living beings saw the light that had been radiated from a certain star to their planet, they would start to ask some questions.
“Hey, do you know that the light we see right now comes from the past?”
“Whoa, how is that possible?”
“You see. The light came from a star so far away; it came from an insane amount of distance, so it took a lot of time to arrive here. The light exists from a long time ago in the past, encountering a lot of things during its travels, just to meet us in the present.”
“Say. What do you think the light has seen in the past?”
What do you think Lu Guang has seen in the previous timeline?
Well, it doesn't really matter right now. The light will keep traveling. Searching for another chance. Because if he doesn't travel, time will fall.
