Work Text:
“Aren’t they tired yet?” asks Clint, watching in amazement as Lucky races through the living room again, Alpine fast on his heels. “They haven’t stopped in the last hour.”
“I’m tired watching them,” says Bucky, equally amazed.
The animals are out of sight, but it’s easy to track where they are just by listening to the nails scramble on the hardwood floors, or the jingle-jangle of their collars and tags. After a moment, they appear – this time, Alpine in the lead, Lucky following her as his tongue lolls out of his mouth.
He looks as happy as he’s ever been; Alpine’s tail is straight up and down as she jumps up to the couch, to the lamp, to top of the bookshelf.
Lucky sits at the bottom, eyes on his furry prize, and whimpers.
“I think she needs a break, buddy,” says Clint, laughing.
“Alpine, did that mean old dog scare you?” asks Bucky, laughing just as much.
Which is when Alpine takes a flying leap off the top of the bookshelf, landing squarely on Lucky’s back. Lucky lets out a happy yelp and takes off running again, with Alpine yowling the entire way.
Clint laughs so hard he falls off the couch, and he laughs through the kiss Bucky gives him, too.
