jungwon was officially having the worst day of his life. as the crown prince of his kingdom, he was prepared for every possible type of situation, but he was never prepared for a sudden war because of his soulmate.
“fuck you mean they are outside of the gates with an army?!” riki exclaimed.
“yes, your majesty. the king and queen of noir have arrived with an army…” the soldier replied.
“i.. fuck! it was a trap! i’m so sorry jungwon. i should’ve known it was a trap! it’s an excuse to declare a sudden battle!”
“riki, calm down. this is out of our control. i don’t blame you. my parents don’t blame you.” jungwon reassured.
“i’ll face them, they only want me dead, and i’m not risking your kingdom.”
“are you fucking crazy? if you die, i die!”
“then what other choice do we have?”
“let’s seal the bond. right now. we’ll be more powerful that way. let’s go.” jungwon says and grabs riki by the wrist, pulling him to his room.
“woah! calm down, tiger!”
“we literally don’t have time! come on!”
“sealing the bond is irreversible. you’ll be stuck with me for the rest of your life!”
“i know what sealing the bond does! i am not letting you die! if you die, i die!”
“sealing the bond would mean you can’t fall in love with anyone. i’ll only be the one in your heart…”
“oh for fucks sake, nishimura! you were always the one in my heart! kiss me and get on with it!”
“really? i knew it, you had a crush on me!”
“would i have risked my life in the armory if i didn’t have feelings for you? come on, kiss me!”
riki smirked and pulled jungwon closer, closing the gap between their faces, sharing a passionate kiss. their birthmark glowed in the entire process, and then suddenly they both just felt a rush of energy. this was it, their bond was finally sealed.
“what are the odds that your crush ended up as your soulmate?”
“tease me about that later, your parents are literally about to declare a war!”
“hold on.” with a snap of riki’s fingers, they were both in their prince attire.
“okay, let’s face them. i’ll settle this once and for all.”
“let’s talk to my parents first.” jungwon said and immediately teleported them to the throne room.
as now their bond was sealed, they were able to gain each other’s power.
“i’m sorry your majesty. i didn’t know they were going to do this.” riki said and bowed.
“i know, my dear. no need to apologize for something you didn’t do. but let’s first try to settle this diplomatically. that is our kingdom’s way of doing it.”
“i’ll do my best, my king.” jungwon said.
“your parents trust you that much?” riki whispers.
“i am the future king after all. let’s go?” jungwon reaches out his hand to riki.
as soon as riki holds him, they both teleported to the outside of the gates, seeing riki’s parents face to face, with a battalion of soldiers behind him.
“siding with the enemy, is that how we raised you?” riki’s dad immediately says with a smirk.
holding on to jungwon’s hand, riki felt safe. his parents didn’t know they had already sealed their bond.
“you didn’t raise me. what are you doing here?”
“what does it look like, my son? we’re here to bring you home.”
“with a battalion of soldiers? who are you fooling, father?”
“how rude of you to speak that way. my own flesh and blood, siding with the rival kingdom.”
“we don’t need a bloodshed to happen, dear parents of mine. we can settle this diplomatically.”
“how treacherous. is that what the kingdom of noir stands for? you’re the crown prince!”
“not anymore. i revoke my position.”
jungwon’s eyes widened. this was not what he had in mind when riki said he’ll settle this once and for all.
“are you fucking crazy?” his mother finally spoke.
jungwon stayed silent, this was a family affair after all. being his soulmate doesn’t automatically mean he was part of their family, especially coming from the rival kingdom.
“would you rather i fight for my position when i’m obviously not welcomed? isn’t this what you wanted? to finally get rid of the pest in the line of succession. scratch that, there is no line. it’s always going to be your reign.”
“what an ungrateful brat! you call yourself worthy to be a crown prince? what are you so proud of? your soulmate? you’ll never find your place in this kingdom!” his mother shouts.
“i would rather find my place here rather than pretend to be a family with snakes like you!” and that was riki’s turning point, throwing a fireball in the direction of his parents.
“so this is how it’s going to be? a clear invitation to war.” his father smirks, this was his plan all along.
“no. a bloodshed is not necessary. spare the soldiers of your greed and fight with me, just the three of us. if you win, i’ll go back to being your precious little puppet and crown prince… but if i win, i will no longer be your crown prince and you will leave and never bother the kingdom of bordeaux ever.”
if someone told jungwon a week ago that this would be happening right in front of his eyes, he would’ve laughed at their faces.
“what are you so proud of? your abilities? your swordsmanship? how high up are you in the clouds to think you can defeat us?” his mother mocks his offer.
“are you scared to lose?” riki smirks, after all, he was their son after all , and one thing they taught him was to fight fire with fire.
“this is how you’ll play it? we agree, in one condition…. your soulmate fights alongside you.” his father says and points at jungwon, who was quiet the whole time.
“it’ll be a fair fight, two soulmates against two soulmates.” his mother adds.
before riki could even object, jungwon squeezes his hand.
“i accept. if this is the way to prevent bloodshed, so be it.” jungwon stands firm.
“two proud younglings who know nothing, what a match made in heaven.” his mother remarks before ordering the soldiers to go back to the kingdom of noir.
“the soldiers are out, happy?” his father mocks.
“fight fairly.” riki remarks before snapping his fingers, changing him and jungwon’s attire to an armor.
to be completely honest, jungwon was scared shitless. he was definitely not cut out for battle, let alone to battle other royals.
“promise me we won’t lose?” riki holds his hand.
“prince’s honor.” jungwon reassures before summoning his special swords through the wind.
“i’ve seen you fight, jungwon. you’re good. you can do this.”
“how sweet.” his mother says, pointing her sword at riki.
fucking hell. i’m sorry mom and dad. i just promised that i won’t put myself in danger anymore, but this is also for our kingdom, jungwon thought.
“the battle is simple really, the duo with the most injuries or dies loses. if we win, which we will , you are going back to noir and act as a proper crown prince and a war between noir and bordeaux will start.”
“and if you lose, which you will , you will leave me and the kingdom of bordeaux alone forever.”
jungwon could definitely see that riki is their son, they fight fire with fire instead of putting it off.
there are three ways to kill a vampire in battle: to injure and /or impale to the point of no return, stab them directly at the heart, and last but not the least, stab them directly at the wrist, where the soulmate mark is located.
but there are many other ways to kill a vampire spiritually and through magic, but it was made clear that only swordsmanship and their power of elements were allowed in the battle.
jungwon glanced at riki before the battle started, is he really going to kill his parents? is that how strained their relationship is?
he immediately snapped out of it. thousands of vampires will suffer if they lose this battle. this is not the time for rational thinking.
as soon as riki’s parents grabbed their sword, it was the signal that the battle had begun.
riki’s father quickly went to riki, and they proceeded to fight each other using two swords. that leaves riki’s mother going after jungwon.
“just give up. you’re like a baby bird with no wits to fight. my son can raise a sword, but you? i doubt.” his mother says with a smirk, while pointing her sword directly at him.
“if i give up… my people will suffer… over my dead body!”
“that can be arranged.” his mother says before almost hitting jungwon, but he was able to block it with his sword.
yeah, this is definitely not the time for rational thinking!
“why are you so obsessed with battles?” jungwon said while blocking all the attempts to strike him. he may not be the best fighter out there, but he could do a damn good job at blocking attacks.
“kingdoms are meant to be conquered.”
“we aren’t in the 19th century anymore!” jungwon said and striked his sword, slashing riki’s mother on her wrist, directly at the soulmate mark, definitely weakening her.
“you spoiled fucking brat!” she attempts to strike again but jungwon blocks her using the wind unintentionally.
“sorry! that was a reflex!” jungwon says and continues to block the attempts of striking him.
“your mother is fighting an amateur. is that what you really are proud of? your soulmate who uses his tongue to fight? how pathetic!”
riki, in a moment of fury, could only see red, striked the wrist of his father, targeting the soulmate mark.
“you play dirty, brat! if you want to kill me, strike me directly to the heart!”
before his father could strike directly at him, a cloud protected him —- which was definitely jungwon’s doing.
“let’s end this once for all, father. your reign has come to an end.” riki says and directly stabs his father directly at the wrist, making him drop to the floor.
his mother, who was busy fighting with jungwon, dropped her sword and immediately ran to her soulmate.
jungwon immediately ran to his soulmate as well, who was standing tall, hovering over his father who was on the floor, and was in pain.
“you cheater… you’re already bonded…” his father said, as he definitely knew only someone who was skilled with the element of air could make a cloud that fast.
it was well known that only the crown prince of bordeaux, yang jungwon was the only vampire royalty who mastered the element of air instead of fire.
“all this time, you taught me to fight with fire. but fire will eventually burn you, father.”
“you will always be the son of noir. you will always have bloodlust running through your veins. no soulmate bond can change that.” his mother says, who was now on her knees, holding the hand of her soulmate. at that moment, she was no longer the queen of noir, but rather a vampire who was losing her soulmate.
“don’t worry, i’ll make sure the kingdom of noir changes for the better under my reign.”
It shall be then, when the red sky unites with darkness, a bond shall mark an era of honor and bring forth an age of peace.
riki’s father took his last breath, and seconds later, his mother followed, as soul bonds worked that way. if one dies, the other dies as well. riki immediately teleported with them to noir to give them a proper burial and to formally announce the start of his reign.
jungwon stood there in front of their castle gates, where the battle took place. he couldn’t process what just happened. the cloud protected riki by reflex, as they were now bonded.
“your majesty…” a soldier went out to call jungwon. he immediately teleported back to the throne room, where he was immediately hugged by both of his parents.
“you did a good job. you managed to stay composed in times of crisis. i’m proud of you my son.” his mother says while patting him on the back.
“but… riki….”
“you don’t need to worry about me.” riki suddenly appeared right behind them.
“you did a good job, prince riki.” jungwon’s father complements.
“we’ll leave you to talk. if you need anything, send wind our way.”
“are you okay, riki?” jungwon immediately asks as soon as the throne room is empty.
“there’s something i have to tell you. i’m… not actually their child.”
“what…?”
“i mean, i am made from their own flesh and blood. but you see, i was created by them as a puppet, and my existence was merely to show that my kingdom had a succession line, but it was always their plan to reign forever. but… i was able to save myself. i refuse to just be a puppet. that’s why i focused so much on perfecting my swordsmanship, i always knew this day would come. i just wished it didn’t happen right in front of you.”
“i… don’t know what to say, riki… i didn’t know. i didn’t even know that you could create a vampire through magic…”
“i was created by the strongest type of vampire magic, and the blood of my two parents. technically i am their son, but not in the way that you think. i am more of their creation. but… please don’t feel bad for me, jungwon. i’ve prepared for this day for years.”
“what will happen to the kingdom of noir…?”
“following the rules, i will be the next king as soon as possible… and the first thing i’ll do is to end the rivalry once and for all.”
“i’m glad to hear that. let’s work together for a better future for everyone.” jungwon says and hugs riki.
It shall be then, when the red sky unites with darkness, a bond shall mark an era of honor and bring forth an age of peace.
“since when have you liked me?”
“oh fucking hell! we literally just came from a battle and you want to ask that question?”
“you said i can tease you later… and the time has now come. so… since when? i knew it! i’m too handsome for my own good!”
“i can’t believe i’m stuck being soulmates with you.”
“you’re lucky to be soulmates with your crush!”
“i don’t know? the first time i saw you… i guess.”
“really? so since we were teenagers! i knew it! did you argue with me because that was the only way to talk to me?”
“no, you were genuinely so annoying.”
“but you like this annoying prince. don’t worry, i always found you adorable. sometimes, i would argue with you just to see you being so passionate.”
“you’re fucking weird!” jungwon giggles, but deep inside, he was happy that his affection was reciprocated at least.
“so that’s why you followed me to the armory, huh? you were so worried about me!”
“ugh! i hate you! i shouldn’t have told you that!”
“too bad, you’re stuck with me.”
and jungwon was the happiest that way. nishimura riki, the crown prince of the rival kingdom, who was his secret crush, was his fated mate.
