The Nameless One has risen.
Though she wants nothing more than to keep Susa far from danger, as the bearer of the Rising Jewel, Tané has a chance – a duty – to face this threat. With so little left for them in Seiiki, the safest place may be together, even as they fly to the West with Nayimathun in search of the Waning Jewel. Their first destination is Inys, but the Queendom is already threatened by the minions of the Nameless One, and Tané must balance her desire to keep Susa safe with the risks that must be taken to protect the rest of the world.
The East faces the wrath of the wyrms too. Nadama Rushari, the Governor of Ginura, fights to hold her region of the country together, even as the great wyrm Valeysa demands her father, the Warlord, surrender. Even the riders of Clan Miduchi are not invulnerable, for a new rider, Onren, has had her leg bitten off by a wyvern. She has little patience for the recuperation required to adapt to a prosthesis and wishes to be back in the air, slaying the enemy and proving herself, even if what one more rider really can achieve alone seems slim.
The fight will be hard, but against an enemy who would wreath the world in fire, it must be fought. No matter the sacrifices.
