Work Text:

Of course the twins had to come on Father’s Day.

Of course they fucking did.

She wasn't even at the full nine months yet!

She knew that twins were often early, but come on. The three kids she already had were all so excited for Father’s Day, and now their little siblings would be stealing the show.

Just like their father—who looked like he might pass out. Well, it wouldn't be the first time.

“Can… can you repeat that mate?” Killian asked, weakly. Feeling lightheaded all of a sudden.

“Congratulations, pirate. You’re a father.” The shit-eating grin on David’s face wasn’t visible, but Killian could hear it in his voice.

“Emma's pregnant?! Wha— how?!

“No, you idio–I mean, I don’t think so…” David pulled the phone away from his ear and called out to Snow. “Emma’s not pregnant as far as we know, right?”

“No, David. Emma’s not pregnant.” Snow rubbed her temples.

David returned the phone to his ear. “Yeah, no. We just got…there’s been a…situation. At the church.”

“How does that make me a father—I haven't been with anyone since I met Emma. No, scratch that, since I started working with Regina. How can I be a father?”

David pinched the bridge of his nose. “What if I told you that there were multiple versions of you, and that one specific version of you had three children between the ages of ten and two?”

“... Say syke right now.”

“Some…entity decided that a whole kingdom’s worth of children didn’t belong in their own dimension, and needed to be brought to us instead. The other version of you had a son and two daughters—”

THUD.

“....Killian?”

There was a long silence, followed by faint footsteps. “Hey grandpa, I think Killian just died. What did you say to him?”

“...that an alternate version of himself has three young kids?”

Henry paused.

“MOM! GRANDPA KILLED KILLIAN WITH A PRANK!”

As Emma looked in awe at the twins held in her arms, the past eight hours of pain and suffering were all but forgotten.

“... They're smaller than your brother.”

“They’re a little bit early. They weren’t supposed to show up ‘till July.” Emma leaned forward to kiss the oldest twin (by fourteen minutes and thirty-eight seconds) on her tiny head.

The baby smiled, trying to open her eyes as she squirmed.

Killian sat down in the chair near the bed, staring at the twins with watery eyes and a small smile.

“Wanna hold one?” Emma smiled at her husband, and if she was still a little loopy from the pain medication, then that was her business.

Yes. ” He moved closer so she would have to move as little as possible.

Emma shuffled slightly, passing the twin in the arm closest to him. It was hard with both of her hands occupied, but the baby was passed with little jostling. “Oh thank god, I can feel my right arm again.” She shook her arm out, being mindful of the whole other baby in her left.

“They're beautiful…” Killian whispered, holding the blonde’s tiny hand. “I love them already.”

“They have your eyes.” Emma cooed to the one in her arms. “I want to introduce them to their siblings, so we should probably finally decide on some names.”

“I have an idea but you might hate it.”

Emma reached over to gently grasp the part of his arm that wasn’t taken up by baby. “Love, you know that I would never hate any of your ideas…and also I am so duped up on pain meds, that anything seems like a good idea right now.”

“I was thinking Hope Ruth. After your parents, boy, and grandmother.”

Emma considered. “I love that. Hope Ruth Swan-Jones. Bit of a mouthful, but I love it. Oldest or youngest twin?”

“The one I'm holding,” Killian replied. “She looks like a Hope to me.”

The baby tapped his arm–like an older child would if trying to get his attention. Killian chuckled. “What should we name the older one?”

“Well, since we’re naming Hope in honor of my parents…I was thinking Alice? After your mother?”

Killian paused. “You… you'd want that?”

“Of course I do.” She squeezed his arm. “Alice is a beautiful name for our daughter.”

The ravenette swallowed. “I love you.”

“I love you, too. I’d hug you, but we both have an armful of baby.” She chuckled slightly.

“Do you have any middle names in mind?”

“I had a few on the backburner. But since Hope’s middle name is Ruth, how about Ruby? So they match.”

Killian chuckled at the idea. “I can't wait to see their faces when we tell them the names. Your father might cry. ”

“Oh, for sure. Even Mom might.”

Killian sighed. “I think this is the best father's day I'll ever have.”
