Eleven-year-old Lydia Deetz doesn’t talk. She doesn’t see the point.
Ever since Mama died, she’s been invisible. Every attempt to reach out to her father has been rebuffed. Every adult she’s confided in just made things worse.
So now, she’s done. If nobody cares enough to listen, then she isn’t going to waste the effort to speak. Existence is exhausting enough without wasting energy on something that would just be ignored.
As far as her father and so-called ‘life coach’ are aware, Lydia hasn’t said a word in months.
After they make their abrupt move to Connecticut–yet another thing that Dad did without caring how Lydia felt about it–Lydia finds out that the new house is haunted by a very kind ghost couple who quickly take a shine to the quiet little girl.
It’s also haunted by a certain demon who would really like Lydia to start talking again, if only to say his name three times. -
