Work Text:
Jason Carl is writing in his notebook, making notes for future projects. Ink flows smoothly from his pen onto the paper. He imagines ancient castles made of stone, massive roaring fireplaces, flocks of multitudes of black winged bats flapping silhouetted across the moon, and walls stacked high of rare vintage wines. He reflects on the stories he’s helped to create already. He’s found great success in the stories he’s told about the Kindred in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and beyond. He knows that they have inspired an untold number of people all over the globe to tell their own vampire stories. It’s an achievement to be proud of.
He has so many plans for the things he wants to do, the further stories he wants to tell in the future. He cannot tell those stories alone, of course. He needs his players to inhabit their characters. This is a complicated ballet, a dark opera of vampires and humans, all of them trying to survive in their world of darkness. He loves the players, and the characters they inhabit. He couldn't do this without them. A world is nothing without life, and un-life, to populate it.
There is frustration, he knows. He’s aware of the questions about when his unfinished stories will finally be concluded. For example, the stories of the Kindred in New York are left hanging by a thread, delayed for much longer than he ever intended. Life gets in the way. Closure will one day come for those stories too, but not just yet. Patience. Some things cannot be short-cut. The wait has been long, and will be longer yet still. How long? No one knows, but he is optimistic that it will still be worth it in the end. He loves his stories, and wants the proper care to be put into them.
In the meantime, while the world waits, Jason still writes, and dreams of what may come and what may happen to his Kindred characters. There is still plenty of work to get done. There are books to read, wine to drink, places to visit, and inspiration to be found. And when he is finally and eventually finished and has no more stories to tell, others will pick up the pen or the keyboard and will continue what he started. The world will go on.
