Work Text:

Adrian Clairmont is not afraid of death, nor is he afraid of judgment. He kneels in the chapel, looking up at Jesus on the cross, hands folded in prayer. He is asking for guidance, for a message to confirm that his path is true and he will be doing what he’s supposed to be doing, according to the Word of God.

He has read the Second Inquisition's reports on the known activities of Blank Bodies in Los Angeles. The City of Angels. Adrian thinks it’s absolutely disgusting that such a haven of sin would be named after something divine and pure, but that’s an argument for another time. He knows that many of the Blanks in LA are basically open secrets. They run businesses and nightclubs, flaunting themselves before the innocent (and not-so-innocent) humans. It’s almost as if they’re asking for a fiery sword to come down on them. If the Lord wants Adrian to be that sword, he will only be too happy to oblige.

Adrian closes his eyes, whispering prayers. He feels like he’s on the edge of a precipice, that his life is about to change forever based on this decision to stay or to go. His answers come to him. They bloom in his mind like a garden. Yes, of course he needs to go, and yes, the Lord wants him to be His sword in the fight. This is his call to action! He sees in his mind’s eye a city on fire, burning and purifying the sins within. A modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

Instead of fear, the fire he sees in his mind fills Adrian with excitement. His brain starts to tick, planning, strategizing, even as he thanks the Lord for this revelation. Vampires are intelligent and organized. He knows they use modern social media, or at least, the younger ones do. If they spread the attack out, it will be communicated amongst them and they’ll flee like rats on a sinking ship. They’ll have to attack all at once, hitting every known Blank Body hotspot in the city at the same time. It will be a massive undertaking, but oh, how Adrian wants to be in the thick of it.

Another thought, another clue from the Almighty, occurs to Adrian. There may be some Blank Bodies who will seek redemption, who will beg and plead that they be spared. They were humans once, and have the same human weakness and cowardice. If that happens, what will he do?

He thinks on it, and comes to a conclusion. It is not Adrian’s job to provide final judgment to those lost souls, if indeed vampires even have souls. He wants to be the sword, and the sword does not judge the flesh it slices into. Kill them all, and let God sort them out. That dark thought makes Adrian chuckle to himself. He decides that if he is to die in the coming fight, if he is damned for it, then he will not despair, for he will have a front row seat to the Blanks burning forever in the pits of hell.
