Work Text:
Grow
May 8th, 2024
Plant me in your garden and watch me grow.
Watch my thorns slip from the stems, new growth in its wake.
Don't pluck me.
Not yet.
Let me sit here a while longer.
Let me linger.
Let me grow.
Let me change into something worth placing on your table.
Let me flourish.
Plant friends beside me and watch us grow together.
Watch us change and merge, bloom into one until we are overgrown -
Take us from the soil and give us new life.
Weave us together in a vase, and mingle us with baby's breadth
and bad decisions
loud voices from this house
(loud love the apologies).
Plant me in your garden and watch me grow, and I will watch you in return.
See your arms stretch in the mornings, reach for skies that escape your touch.
Hear you sing from the windowsill, off-key and out of tune,
I have never heard such sweet sounds before now.
You are the sun in this ecosystem.
You give us life
and breath
and I am straining my arms towards you -
I hope you can see that.
I hope you can see me.
Plant me in your garden and watch me grow.
Grow alongside me.
