Work Text:
The class of 1-A was aware Midoriya was an orphan and that he was living in an orphanage. They learned this when they invited Midoriya to a meetup at the mall, something that developed to be a ritual the class did very regularly. Midoriya never came, he said the orphanage doesn’t allow him to go out, outside of school. The class found this weird, but none of them lived in an orphanage, so they had no idea. Ashido however picked up Midoriya said he is not allowed, not all of them aren’t allowed.
Either way, the class was positively surprised when Midoriya did show up when they met at an ice parlor while on summer break.
“Midori! Dude! Did the orphanage relax the rules?” asked Kaminari, being the first to notice Midoriya. Denki and Hagakure made space on the table.
“Actually no…” answered Midoriya, speaking slowly, as if he couldn’t believe his own words. “I-I got adopted, actually.”
The table was silent, only a few spoons dropping could be heard. One of the spoons belonged to Bakugo. “Who the fuck would adopt you?”]
“Bakugo!” scolded him Iida.
“Calm down, Iida. Bakugo has a point, teens rarely get adopted.” told him Midoriya. “And the orphanage I was stuck in was literally called ‘Home for unadoptable orphans’.”
“Stuck? You don’t seem to like that place.” pointed Ashido out.
“Well, I hated it.” admitted Midoriya. “I… I get some ice cream, I tell you the details, then. Okay?”
“Take the white chocolate sauce!” recommended Kirishima. Midoriya nod, apparently taking Kirishima’s recommendation to heard.
“Man, am I happy for Deku!” said Uraraka.
“The nerd himself did not look happy about it.” pointed Bakugo out, pointing his spoon into her direction. “Albeit he did appear to be relieved.”
“Mon ami, he said teens tend not to be adopted.” said Aoyama. “He probably is still processing this development.”
“Aoyama is right, I still cannot believe it.” chimed Midoriya back in. He had a bowl of ice, chocolate and some white cream – not off-white beige, so not vanilla – all scoops drizzled with white chocolate sauce. “Not tomention who adopted me.” he muttered, only some of his class mates hearing that part.
“Now… that rule… it is bullocks, isn’t it?” reopened Sero the discussion. “I am not an orphan, but that rule sounds weird, man.”
“It is… you see… you remember how Bakugo reacted when we started at UA? About my quirk? I am a false negative, I was misdiagnosed as quirkless. I only got my quirk shortly before the entrance exam.” he told them, staring at his ice. The class lookedto him, surprised as what they heard. “The orphanage thought I was quirkless, everyone did. Well, the orphanage is… I won’t say quirkist, but they hate the quirkless. Only us quirkless had to oblidge by that rule…”
“Even after you got Super Power?” asked Yaoyorozu.
“They thought I somehow faked by quirk. The care takers even emailed Principal Nezu to get me expelled.” revealed Midoriya. “According to their file, I like to lie.” He then took a spoon full of his ice.
“The fuck…” muttered Bakugo. “They thought you faked a quirk for three months?”
“Yeah.” confirmed Midoriya.
Mineta then asked, “Who adopted you? Not to offend you, but who adopts a quirkless? You said it was written in your file?”
“None taken, Mineta.” said Midoriya. “To answer your question: someone who knows I have a quirk. They originally did not plan to adopt me I think, they just wanted an interview to see what is going on with my file. Well, what they found wasn’t good, so they, uh, adopted me…”
Jiro put her spoon down, her banana split non-existant. “Who adopted you? A couple? Someone nonbinary? Someone we know?”
“You know that Aiawa Sensei and Yamada Sensei planned to adopt?” They were still surprised these two were married. Let alone the rumors they plan to adopt. “They paid my orphanage a visit, saw my false file…” he said. “Yeah, I got adopted by our teachers… It is awkward.”
Some of the class leant back. “Adopted by Aizawa…” said Jiro. “You have my pity, Midoriya.”
“Don’t orphans have to agree to being adopted?” asked Ojiro.
“Well, Midoriya said he didn’t like the orphanage.” reminded him Hagakure. “Why did you accept? I would never, too awkward!”
“The orphanage was a shit hole.” The class flinched, Midoriya never cursed! Even Bakugowas surprised. “I would be stupid to reject getting out of there. Even if it means living with Aizawa…”
“See it on the bright side.” said Uraraka, “You get to live with Yamada. “Maybe he lets you onto his show?”
“Well, he said something about that.” said Midoriya. “Honestly, I am not sure how to feel about this.”
“Wait a minute, does this mean Auntie Inko signed the release?” barked Bakugo suddenly, dropping his spoon again.
“Yes. But to be fair, my birth father kind of forced her to.” informed him Midoriya. “But yeah, she did.”
