My dear Frodo. You asked me once if I had told you everything there was to know about my adventures. And while I can honestly say I have told you the truth, I may not have told you all of it. I am old now, Frodo. I’m not the same Hobbit I once was. I think it is time for you to know what really happened.
You have met my friends, the ones who have joined me on this adventure I am soon to tell you all about. One in particular, the lovely Lhiwen, you have always been rather fond of. Ah, Frodo. Lhiwen was and always will be one of my closest friends. She came to us in the middle of the night, and it was quite the surprise might I add. She was full of surprise that one. She never failed to amaze me during our journey, and I think she will amaze you just as much as she did me. A fierce warrior and an even fiercer friend, Lhiwen always captured the heart of many, but she stole the heart of one dwarf in particular.
But before I get ahead of myself too much, let me take you back to the very beginning. It began long ago in a land far away to the east, the likes of which you will not find in the world today. There was the city of Dale...
