On Our Way To Happily Ever After

Summary:

Giorno and Mista discuss their wedding.

Notes:

This was a fluke and I don’t know what this’ll do but eh.
Weird pipeline of watching wedding fails to thinking about an AWFULLY neglected idea to learning about the lacking LGBTQ+ politics in Italy
Wow 🥲
Anyways, uh, enjoy!!!

Work Text:

Giorno held his breath as he slowly lowered Serafina into her crib, watching as the toddler wriggled a bit and whined in her sleep as she was laid down. The blonde paused to see if she would wake up, waiting a couple seconds before silently releasing that breath he held.

“Goodnight, my angel..” he whispered before moving carefully out of the room and turning off the light.

With that done, the blonde made his way over into the only room with a soft light still on. There he found Mista already in bed, scrolling through his phone with an unusually solemn look on his face. Giorno was quick to his fiancé, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek as he snuggled up next to him.

“What’re you reading?” He asked softly.

The brunette didn’t give a verbal answer, but silently tilted his phone for Giorno to see. It was a search on gay marriage in Italy, and…His stomach dropped; it’s not legal.

“Oh no…”

“I was..talkin’ about it with Mom and Dad since, you know, they’d also maybe like to tie the knot someday. They said it still wasn’t all..legal n’ everything…And I know we haven’t talked about it a lot since we learned about Feenie..”

“Yeah…”

“You still want to..sort of get married?”

Giorno felt his stomach turn.

“Of course I do!”

The enthusiasm was enough to break that look on Mista’s face and he laughed.

“Heh. Okay, okay.”

An arm wrapped around Giorno’s shoulders and brought him closer to Mista’s chest, the blonde pressing his head close.

“I guess we’re just not gonna have..like a huuuge thing at a church or something..”

“Would we be able to? Without a church?”

Mista paused.

“Yeahhhh. We’d just have to go to the courthouse, have two guys to witness it, sign some stuff, and then we’re…’civilly united’.”

“So, basically a courthouse wedding?”

“I mean, yeah. Basically.”

“..That’s sounds perfect actually..”

“Really??”

Giorno nodded.

“You wouldn’t want something with a little more…pizzazz?? Or maybe more ‘wow!’??”

The blonde shook his head.

“Too many sounds n’ stuff. Too many people…”

“Heh. Yeah~..”

A soft kiss to his hair.

“Plus, there’s nothing saying we can’t have a little get-together afterwards.”

“Oh yeah, yeah!”

“Shh! Don’t wake Sera up.”

“Oh! Sorry~..”

“Heh..”

“But..I thought you’d want something nice like, I dunno, having it at some garden when all the flowers are blooming, butterflies all flittin’ around, and..”

A pause.

“That sounds…lovely, Guido. It really does. It sounds like..like a dream.”

…

“Buuut~?”

A quick leg draped over Mista’s hip was…the start.

“We could have a moment where we give each other cheap toy rings, said ‘I love you’, kiss, and I’d be the happiest man on the planet.”

The brunette blinked and jaw started to go slack.

“I-I mean..yeah, we could.”

“But, all of it to say..I don’t need much, but, when we do get married, if we have a party to go with it or not,” he pulled Mista close, nuzzling his head right under his fiancé’s. “I’ll be overjoyed to know I’m marrying my..one true love…”

Those words left the room silent for a long time, with the only response being Mista pulling Giorno close and holding him.

“You okay?”

“Mm-hmm…”

…

“I’m still thinking about us having the reception in a garden or somewhere nice.”

“Heh, alright..”

“Would you…want to have a honeymoon somewhere?”

“Mmm, maybe?”

“Where’d you want to go? Milan? Maybe Sardinia??”

A pause before Giorno buried his face in Mista’s chest.

“What?”

“Mmm…”

“C’mon~ You had something, didn’t you~?”

“It’s…dumb…”

“Babe, almost nothing you can say would ever be considered dumb.”

A swift second before Giorno’s head popped up, nearly hitting Mista’s jaw, with an arched eyebrow. The brunette reacted quick.

“Ooonly because I’m the dumb one of us.”

A pause before Giorno shook his head with a smile.

“You’re not dumb either..”

“Oh, now you’re just lying~”

“Am not..”

“Uh huh. Anyways, what was your idea~?”

A heavy pause and Giorno sighed.

“I was thinking…maybe…Disneyland Paris..?”

It was almost electric how quick that made Mista’s eyes widen.

“That. Is. PERFECT-!”

“Shhh!! Our daughter in the next room-!”

“Oh! Right, right, right! But Gio, babe, that is genius! Wait, have you..ever been to Paris Disney?”

Giorno shook his head.

“My..birth mother and stepfather never had the money. And they said it was ‘too much for me’.”

That sent a little shock through Mista.

“Well, I think that settles it. We are definitely going to try and go there for our honeymoon.”

“Ohhh no…”

“What’s wrong?”

“…It’ll be too much..”

“Hey,” a quick kiss to his hair. “I’m only saying it’ll be on the table, alright? And hey, maybe we don’t go for our honeymoon, but I swear to you, Giorno Giovanna, I will take you to fucking Disney and you are going to be treated like the king I know you are.”

The whole speech got a giggle out of Giorno, smiling and leaning up to give his fiancé a kiss.

“Alright. Someday..”

“Someday…”

“Hahh…”

…

“I kind of want to start looking at stuff now that we’ve talked about it.”

“I kind of had a feeling.”

“Sorry~”

“Eh, it’s fine. I can get the laptop going.”

“I’ll get one of my notebooks.”
