Work Text:
As Pim and Charlie walked into the Smiling Friends workplace, they turned on the TV and grabbed some diet soda out of the fridge. They started flipping through the channels but a breaking news broadcast came on before they could find something to watch.
“Breaking news! Reports around town have been coming in about numerous anvils falling from the sky around them and even on some people! So be careful going outside until further notice!” The broadcaster said before the TV turned black.
“You hear that, Charlie? Numerous anvils! Just falling from the sky! We gotta be careful, we could get seriously hurt,” Pim said, standing up and walking over to get another soda.
“Dude, you finished your soda already? We just sat down,” Charlie said, raising his eyebrows.
“Charlie, I think there’s more pressing matters here than how fast I finished my soda. Numerous anvils are falling from the sky! That means we can’t go outside, which means we can’t do our job!”
“Yeah, I mean, the numerous anvils are pretty scary, but how did you finish your soda so fast? I mean, dude, that can’t be healthy to just chug a whole soda like that,” Charlie said as Allan emerged from under the table, frightening Charlie and Pim. “Ah! What the hell are you doing under there man?” Charlie jumped out of his chair.
“I was hiding from the numerous anvils that are falling from the sky,” Allan said as he stood up and wiped his knees.
“You do realize that the numerous anvils are outside, right Allan?” Charlie asked.
“Yes, but an object that weighs as much as an anvil falling from that height can burst through the ceiling and hit any of us at any moment,” Allan said as three anvils fell right next to him, Pim, and Charlie. They all screamed and ran away into Mr. Boss’ office to find him with an anvil embedded in his head. They all gasped and ran outside where they saw a giant anvil-shaped cloud in the sky and people running from it.
“Dude, what do we do? This cloud is obviously what’s causing the anvils to fall from the sky,” Charlie panicked, as did Pim. Allan on the other hand was nowhere to be seen. “Allan?” Charlie yelled out.
“There he is!” Pim pointed across the street to Allan who was sheltering under a rock. Charlie tried to run across the street, but as soon as he stepped one foot on the street, an anvil struck the ground right in front of him, missing him by an inch.
“Ah, shit!” He exclaimed.
“Be careful, Charlie! We gotta run the opposite way of the cloud so that we get away faster!” Pim said.
“What about Allan? We can’t just leave him over there,” Charlie said.
“He’s safe, he’s under a rock! We gotta go!” Pim began running, as did Charlie. They ran as fast as they could, numerous anvils falling all around them. Once they made it to the end of the cloud, they stopped running and waited for the cloud to pass by town. Once the cloud was gone, they ran back to see the damage.
They helped Allan out from under the rock and went back to the Smiling Friends building to see Mr. Boss perfectly fine and walking around.
“Dude, weren’t you like, dead on the floor with an anvil stuck in your skull?” Charlie asked.
“Oh, that was my stunt double, Mr. Loss. He can do all these crazy things like jumping over a mountain on a motorcycle and climbing the Empire State Building in high heels!”
“Oh ok, so he’s not actually dead then?” Pim asked.
“Oh no, he’s dead…” Mr. Boss said, looking down.
“Oh…” Charlie and Allan both said in unison.
“Well, back to work you all!” Mr. Boss said, walking out of the room. Charlie, Pim, and Allan all looked at each other in utter shock before playing “Gwimbly 32: Revenge of the Gwomble” for three hours straight.
