Work Text:
He was working on a development for his company for the past hour. Obie was hounding him about the work he's missing. Tony ignores the man when he suggests Peter be left behind with a nanny. Tony repeated many times that it wasn't going to happen. Howard did that one-to-many times with him and he wasn't going to do that to Peter.
He put Peter to bed an hour ago. The little bean turned 1 last month and is having fun with the six words he knows. He still can't believe he is a dad despite the cries at 3 am waking him up. He’s so grateful for Peter, at first, he thought he would be a terrible father and damage the kid. As it turns out Peter is a wonderful little boy and Tony can never imagine doing something to hurt him. He would burn the entire world down before having the thought of laying a harmful hand on his son or spill hurtful words to him.
He continued to work until Jarvis spoke “Sir, young sir is awake, and I believe he is in danger”
Tony shot up from bed going towards Peter's bedroom. Work forgotten with his attention solely on Peter “What do you mean Jarvis?”
Before the AI would respond Tony opened the door to see the one-year-old on the vanity of the dresser.
“What the fuck” Peter caught his eyes and a bright smile on the boy's face developed when he saw the horrified and shocked expression on his father's face.
“Dada!” The little brown eye boy giggles as Tony advances towards him.
It was not the sight he thought he would see. Before he entered the room, he imagined Peter about to jump off his crib or him choking on an object he pulled from who knows where. He never thought he would see his kid sticking to the mirror attached to the dresser sideways.
He grabbed Peter off the very high area he was attached to and brought him to his chest. The baby was still laughing, and he was trying very hard to breath in and out. Calming his racing heart.
“Okay" he sighed, finally looking at Peter to see if he was hurt. Thankfully Peter wasn't. He examined Peter's hands. One of his little hands was sticking to Tony's face. He didn't know if his vision was going to shit or if his son actually had tiny hairs sticking out of his hand.
“J, what is that?”
“I believe they are called Setae's; they mostly appear on spiders. It is rather fascinating” Tony nodded, storing the information in his head while Peter babbled.
“So that means that Peter is part spider?”
“Indeed sir”
“Shit” His kid is part spider. His baby can climb walls. Peter moved his left hand from his face and clapped excitedly.
“Shit!” the little boy repeated. Tony clasped his opened mouth. His baby just said shit. This is not how he saw his night going.
“Petey that's a no no word” He placed the baby back into his crib. Ideas and protocols running through his head about how to protect Peter. Peter can't be climbing stuff when he isn't there. He could fall or worse someone else could see and would want to hurt him.
How does that even work anyway? Does his kid have the x gene? Tony doesn't recall his side of the family have that gene. Peter's mother was a scientist, maybe she was accidentally exposed to something during the pregnancy? He can't ask the woman since she's dead. Maybe he can test Peter's blood for the gene. Then he can call or visit Charles Xavier if Peter does have the gene. He heard the other man made a school for mutants.
He runs his hand through Peter's hair. Peter drifts back to sleep.
“Goodnight spider baby. Love you” He kissed Peter's forehead. He loves his boy and will do whatever it takes to protect him. Deciding to finish his work tomorrow. He walks back to his bedroom telling Jarvis to wake him if Peter gets a bad dream.
He falls asleep wondering how he will explain this to Peter Uncle and Godfather, Rhodey.
