Work Text:
The warden was currently in his office looking at the ceiling while trying to brush off how badly his wound from the last phight stung. His momma always told him that he's tough and he wasn't one to argue over her opinions and words. So that was exactly what he was doing right now. Trying to act tough.
He decided to do something in order to take his mind off the uncomfortable feeling on his abdomen. A walk around the prison would do. After all he had to look after the prisoners right? Or he was just trying to make excuses in his head.
He slowly got up, a small hiss escaping his mouth at the movement. He sighed and started navigating around the prison like the good warden he is. Passing in front of every single one of the cells felt like a chore and fatigue started slowly hitting him.
. . .
He was finally done with the inside of the prison, one last cell remaining which was outside. The Broker's cell. Ban Hammer wanted to scream internally every time he had to deal with the one eyed demon. He pinched his nose bridge before tiredly walking in front of Broker's hanging cell.
The smaller demon was seemingly on the other side of the cell because the warden could not see him. He decided to turn his attention for a moment to the annoying stinging sensation on his belly, picking at the wound just to see how bad it was. He let out a loud wince and promised himself he wouldn't touch it again. He just wanted to get rid of it but also was too stubborn to admit to it hurting.
He heard a loud laugh behind him, Broker laughing at him. He was now looking down at Ban Hammer from the elevated cell, cackling at the injured warden.
"What's up? Big strong warden, ain't so tough right now, hmm?" Broker laughed holding his stomach, his laughter echoing through the open space.
Ban Hammer did not have the patience for this right now. His head was heavy and his wound stung. He started walking away, heading towards his office, when Broker's voice reached his ears again.
"My good friend Meds could fix you up at an instant. Think of it as a favor from me!" The smaller demon said in a singsong voice and a smirk. Ban Hammer thought for a second. Medkit huh? He kinda liked that guy. But he knew Broker had something to ask for in return. He just didn't know what yet.
"What'cha wan'in return though, filthy criminal?" The warden raised an eyebrow at Broker, his eyes narrowing towards the one eyed demon, even if it wasn't visible because of his blindfold. Broker snickered and gave him an innocent grin.
"Let me out of this cell." The Lost Temple demon said while poking his head out of the cell bars, grinning and his golden tooth showing.
"Like hell I will." The demigod chuckled, bringing one hand on his hip. He wasn't that dumb. "A week." The warden stated after a little thinking. He knew it wasn't a smart move but he was in too much pain to put much thought into this matter.
"We have a deal!" Broker giggled mischievously. He picked on the lock of the cell with his claws before jumping down, coming closer to the warden. He shoved his communicator into Ban Hammer's face, showing him a location, which appeared to be his, Scythe's and Medkit's apartment, before sprinting away, towards the exit gates.
Ban Hammer sighed both externally and internally. It would take him no time to find Broker again so he didn't really care for now. However, his injury was affecting him more and more. He could feel the fatigue inching onto his body again, making him shiver. He took a deep breath, before heading for the location Broker had shown him.
. . .
Medkit had a long day. A long, full of healing, emptying and reloading his revolver and then patching up everyone after phights, day. Being in his warm bed surrounded by soft, fuzzy blankets was making his mood so much better. He was finally less tired and stressed.
That was, until he got reminded that he worked with The Broker. It was 3 bloody am in the morning and his communicator was buzzing and receiving messages like crazy. He stirred in his bed, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and sighing loudly, upon realizing what woke him up.
- Heya Meds it's me! Open the door for me pretty please :D
- Meds!!! Can Scythe not find out about who's at the door please?? Thanks!!
- Meeeedddsss open the door there's someone waiting!!!
- Take care of the little guy at the door for me!! xoxo ;)
Medkit wanted to just throw his communicator out the window and go back to sleep. What could Broker have possibly done that had someone at their doorstep at this hour of the day. The doctor pinched the bridge of his nose, already annoyed that his sleep was very rudely interrupted by Broker of all people.
He sat up on his bed fixing his hair a bit and reaching for his glasses from the nightstand. The black circles under his eye was very noticeable. His eyepatch was nowhere around and he didn't bother looking for it. He got on his feet and went to open the door. Why was someone at their doorstep this late because of Broker? Were they injured or was someone after him and Medkit had to deal with them again? There were countless possibilities because it was Broker we were talking about.
What the teal horned demon didn't expect was Banland's warden standing in front of him when he opened the front door. No wonder he didn't want Scythe to find out. The demigod looked tired and his blindfold was not on, something unusual for the warden. The doctor sighed and grabbed Ban Hammer by the hand, yanking him inside the house and closing the door behind them quickly. He brought a finger in front of his mouth and shot a hard glare towards the taller demon.
Ban Hammer was staring at the doctor with a lazy glare. His headache and fatigue had tired him out quite a lot. He felt like shit and hoped that the one eyed demon gripping his hand was gonna fix him up. Both physically and maybe mentally. Trying to ignore the pain, he focused on Medkit's face instead. He couldn't see it very well even with his blindfold off because of the lighting of the room. He could tell however that the doctor's usual eyepatch was missing, his scar showing.
He noticed Medkit telling him to keep quiet and he gave a little nod. The teal horned demon led them both into his room, gesturing to Ban Hammer to sit on his bed. The lights in this room were dim, allowing them to see while not being very bright.
Medkit was now standing in front of him, staring. The one eyed demon was wearing pajamas and his hair was messed up. It was weird to see the doctor so infromally dressed, but oddly cute.
"So, why did Broker send you here?" The doctor questioned the warden as he crossed his arms in front of his chest and raised an eyebrow. They both seemed restless and wanted some well deserved rest but oh well, there they were.
"Nothin' much.. 'ts jus'a scratch, doc." Ban Hammer muttered trying to not be very loud. He knew what the consequences of Scythe waking up were. He also didn't wanna admit to it being a big deal for him. It wasn't tough to show weakness.
"Hm. Can I have a look at it?" The doctor approached him, now standing in front of the warden. The demigod didn't need to look up to meet Medkit's eye, even if he was seated.
Ban Hammer crossed his arms in front of his chest. Avoiding Medkit's glare for a moment. He really, really didn't wanna admit it. The doctor seemed to acknowledge the situation.
"Please?" He added while moving his head to where Ban Hammer was looking at. His face was one of concern despite the tiredness. It's as if he knew how to get the warden to give in.
"Go on." Ban Hammer mumbled after a few seconds with a faint blush on his face. He moved away the clothing and anything covering the wounded spot. He could see the doctor visibly wince at the wound. It was probably bad because the warden didn't see the reason to take care of it.
Medkit inspected the wound. The first thing that came to his mind was that it looked infected. He was a little worried about what in SFOTH the warden was waiting for with a wound this bad. He sighed and got on his knees, reaching for one of his medkits from under his bed. He placed it next to the demigod and took out the necessary materials for the disinfection and the dressing of the wound.
He gestured for the warden to lay down so that he had better accessibility and visibility of the injury. He carefully disinfected the area, earning a few winces and twitches from the demon below him. He muttered quick apologies whenever he was a little rough. Medkit's hands were soft against Ban Hammer's skin, each one of his touches felt sweet and gentle. The doctor finished by dressing the wound up with bandages and patting the now patched up injury, satisfied with his work.
"Did your mom never tell you anything about taking care of open wounds?" The doctor asked with a raised eyebrow, while gathering all the stuff and putting it back in the medkit. The purple horned demon just grumbled something inaudible with a stubborn look on his face while sitting up and getting ready to leave.
. . .
Medkit accompanied Ban Hammer to the door, in case Scythe was awake. He opened the door for the warden, allowing him to step out and then gave him a tired smile. It was oddly comforting.
Ban Hammer stared at the doctor's face before deciding to do something risky. He brought himself closer to the teal horned demon. He brought his hands closer to his face, cupping his cheeks and pressing a soft kiss against his lips before stepping out of the house with a satisfied grin. Was he proud of himself for that. It was not a long passionate kiss, just a short silly one. It still left him with butterflies in his stomach, feeling like a high school girl in love.
"Thanks doc! Go get some rest now, will ya?" The warden added while walking away happily, leaving a flustered Medkit holding the door open and trying to acknowledge what had just happened.
