“You did well tonight, Kanade, just a little more practice and you’ll get there!” Her father placed a hand on her shoulder, “I believe you can, want to try again tomorrow?”

“Yes, yes!” She cheered.

And now, he won’t be able to do so again

He trusted me to carry things on

He trusted me… and I broke that trust.

Kanade was at home, like she was the majority of the time. She’d only ever leave the house for necessary errands, while her work in the house was taken care of by  Mochizuki, a girl around her age who’d drop by on certain days of the week. She was skilled in caretaking and housework, so she got what was needed done.

She’d spend her days listening to music, it seemed to be all she had left in her life at current. When she was out, she was at school, purchasing necessities or visiting her father. The only interactions she had seemed to be him, though it felt one-sided, her father being mostly comatose, and Mochizuki. She was a kind soul, though Kanade thought she cared a little too much at times, she’d often bring tea to brew and they’d drink it together and discuss things.

As of now, she was scrolling through her phone, something within her praying for inspiration that she’d never make use of. “Ah—!” Suddenly, a bright flash of light would overtake her screen.

[ Midnight SEKAI ]

Kanade found herself in a cafe, an unrecognisable one with a mostly purple palette, it appeared to be late night outside as well, strange, isn’t it around evening?

Eh— where am I? ” She’d hear another, distinctly female, voice ask the same question she’d been asking herself this entire time. She turned, eyes meeting a girl with short brunette hair and similarly brown eyes. “Huh, do you know where we are?”

“Oh— er…” Kanade had no idea how to respond, if anything she was going to ask the same question.

“Oh, do you work here or something? Care to tell me where I am? Sounds weird, but I found myself here… without even realising…” Kanade could tell she was at a loss for words, not that she could blame this stranger, she was too.

“Me as well.” She responded, assuming this girl had also appeared here with the flash of a phone.

“Welcome, Kanade, Ena.” She jumped at the robotic voice that made it’s appearance, and even more shockingly, it came from… Hatsune Miku!?

“H-Hatsune Miku!?” She yelped, not having spoken this loud in quite some time, but who could blame her? Hatsune Miku was right there! God, this must be some weird dream.

“Greetings, we’ve been waiting for you two for quite a while.” And in came Kagamine Len , this was most certainly not real. He was in an outfit to compliment Miku’s, a suit, with dark purple and blue accents, and a bowtie of both colours and added sparkles. Miku’s was a black pinafore, with puffed up white sleeves and a seemingly white outfit underneath it, along with a collar, and a matching bow tie to Len’s. Her pigtails donned a longer black ribbon on the left, and a shorter white one on the right, and her eyes, they were lightless, and hetechromatic.

“I know you’re surprised by the sudden appearances, but please try to remain calm.” Once again, another vocaloid had walked into this cafe, that being MEIKO. In similar formal wear to the others, wearing a long-sleeved suit and a tie matching Len and Miku’s bowties.

“Len!? MEIKO!?” The other girl, who Kanade had just learned was named ‘Ena’, was at a complete loss for words. “This is definitely some weird dream!” She exclaimed, was she just speaking Kanade’s thoughts out loud?

“This isn’t a dream, it’s your sekai.” Len spoke, fiddling with the cuff of his right sleeve.

“Sekai?”

“Mhm. It’s a place constructed of your feelings.” Miku put a hand to her chest, “And we exist here to help you find your true feelings. When they are found, a song is born.”

“True feelings…” Kanade can’t help but wonder if she even has them. With no aim and no connections, what could she have within her?

“I can tell what you two are thinking.” MEIKO smiles, “Trust me, if the two of you work together, I know you’ll find your true feelings just fine.”

“Eh—“

Ring!

Kanade’s eyes opened at the sound of her doorbell. Had she fallen asleep? She could vaguely remember some strange dream, but couldn’t gather any key points. What mattered was she answered the door, it seems Mochizuki had arrived.
