Chapter Text
“Rick? Did you really leave the crows for me? Or did you come back because they dumped you?”
Those words stung Morty deeply, causing a sharp pain in his heart as he grappled with the realization that his ‘own’ grandfather had returned solely because his former companion had departed. The weight of this truth bore down on Morty, making him question the sincerity of his grandfather’s reasons for reappearing in his life.
He couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal that lingered in the air, mixing with the confusion and hurt that clouded his thoughts. Morty found himself torn between his longing for family connection and the unsettling knowledge that his grandfather's return was not motivated purely by a desire to be with him.
The revelation struck something deep within him, leaving him with a sense of unease and an ache of disappointment. Morty's emotions swirled like a storm, caught in the whirlwind of conflicting emotions that threatened to overwhelm him.
As he tried to make sense of it all, Morty struggled to come to terms with the complex web of emotions that now colored his relationship with ‘his’ grandfather, realizing that things were not as simple as they once seemed.
As Morty observed Rick turning his gaze away, a certain expression reflected in his eyes that almost sparked a feeling of remorse within him for not making more effort to bring Rick back earlier. It made Morty question whether it was a mistake on his part to have delayed in getting his grandfather.
The emotions stirred within Morty as he pondered the potential consequences of delaying the reunion, wondering if the course of events could have unfolded differently had he acted sooner. The sense of missed opportunities lingered in the air, leaving a tinge of regret that perhaps a swiffer response could have altered the outcome in a more favorable way.
The weight of responsibility for not intervening sooner weighed heavily on Morty’s mind, highlighting the importance of timely action in moments that hold significance. But does that make Evil Morty right? The fact that all Morty’s are just bred for apologies. All of those ‘sell-out’ Morty’s that Evil Morty spoke about. He could remember those words;
‘You sellout Morty’s kill me, I’d hate you more than the Rick’s you worship if there was any point. But you can’t help it, you were
bred for it.’
“There you go, kid. Now you’re Evil Morty too. Sooner or later, we all are on this side of the curve.”
Morty found himself grappling with the events that had happened with Rick. The complexity of the situation left him in a state of unease, questioning the very foundation of their relationship. As he reflected on the numerous unfortunate incidents that seemed tied to Rick's influence, Morty couldn't help but wonder if their bond was still able to be repaired.
The relentless cycle of unwillingly being entangled in Rick's schemes had taken its toll, pushing Morty to a breaking point. Yet, amidst the chaos and confusion, there was a nagging doubt that lingered in his mind - a doubt that made him question his own role in the unfolding drama.
Had Morty unwittingly paved the way for Evil Morty's emergence by extending his support, thereby contributing to the turmoil that now had them trapped? These lingering thoughts and uncertainties grasped at Morty's conscience, casting a shadow over his perception of Rick and the intricate dynamics that defined their twisted partnership.
The weight of responsibility and accountability pressed heavily on Morty's shoulders, as he navigated his conflicting emotions and shifting loyalties. Despite the gravity of the situation, Morty was determined to seek clarity and make sense of the tangled web of past actions and consequences that had brought them to this critical juncture.
As Morty pondered the decision of accompanying Rick, doubts crept into his mind. Was it truly in his best interest to be by Rick's side again, knowing the pain that often followed? His concern for Rick clashed with his own apprehension, leaving him conflicted.
Could he really be growing tired of Rick's presence, or was it something deeper that he couldn't quite grasp? Despite these swirling thoughts, Morty couldn't deny the familial bond they shared - even if it was a distorted version of what a grandfather should be, as well as the fact this wasn’t even his Rick. The image of Rick as a grandfather figure was unsettling to Morty, yet it was the only way he could make sense of their complex relationship at that moment.
In a state of overwhelming shock and disbelief, Morty found himself unable to even entertain the thought of his complex relationship with Rick amidst the chaotic events unfolding before him. His entire focus was consumed by the menacing presence of Evil Morty, whose actions played out in a massacre that chilled Morty to the core.
As he witnessed the sudden and brutal transport of other versions of Rick and Morty into tubes, fear gripped Morty's heart, mirroring the horror of the scene before him. The sight of their bodies that were instantly torn to shreds, not leaving a drop behind, blood pooling and flowing towards the central point of the room served as a grim testament to the purpose for which they were being sacrificed.
It became achingly clear to Morty that this violent display of death and manipulation was a malevolent scheme orchestrated by Evil Morty, a force intent on shattering the very fabric of their reality by shattering the Central Finite Curve. All other thoughts and concerns paled in comparison to the grim reality unfolding in front of Morty, leaving him paralyzed by the overwhelming weight of the impending catastrophe.
“Oh my fucking God!-”
Morty didn’t even get a chance to think before being interrupted.
“Come on, Morty. We gotta go!”
With the building starting to collapse, neither Rick nor Morty could move before Rick found himself trapped under the heavy debris that came crashing down from above. The weight of the wreckage pressed down on him relentlessly, causing an immense struggle as he tried to free himself from the suffocating confinement.
Meanwhile, Evil Morty's sinister actions continued to bring chaos and destruction all around, further complicating the already dire situation.
As the lower half of Rick's body became encased in metal and rubble, a sense of uncertainty washed over him, intensifying with each passing moment, would Morty even help him out in this predicament? The piercing sounds of crumbling concrete and metal filled the air, a chilling reminder of the imminent danger surrounding them.
Morty, having narrowly escaped a similar fate, frantically searched for a way to aid Rick, his heart pounding with fear and urgency.
“You can come if you want. Don’t blame me if you don’t.”
Feeling a rush of emotions at the unexpected words uttered by Evil Morty, Morty found himself at a crossroad, uncertain of which direction to choose in this crucial moment. The weight of the decision pressed heavily on his shoulders, making every option seem daunting and complex.
Should he stick by his grandfather's side for the comfort of familiarity and safety, or should he brave the unknown by following Evil Morty, risking a potentially dangerous outcome? As much as he loved his grandfather, Evil Morty was right about everything. This whole thing was built around Rick, an ‘infinite fucking baby’ as he liked to call it.
As he stood there grappling with this internal debate, a collection of thoughts flooded his mind, each one presenting a different scenario and outcome. The conflicting feelings of fear and curiosity waged a battle within him, clouding his judgment and causing his heart to race with uncertainty.
Morty's mind raced with possibilities, each path appearing equally tempting and terrifying. The stress of the situation loomed over him like a dark cloud, casting a shadow over his every thought. Ultimately, the decision before him was not just a choice between two individuals but a reflection of his own inner conflict and moral compass.
As he stood frozen in that moment, the weight of his decision bore down on him, urging him to choose wisely and with conviction.
But what was the best choice?..
