Work Text:
Akutagawa and Gin's penchant for black clothing was well-known within the Port Mafia. No matter the occasion or the season, their wardrobes consisted exclusively of somber hues. Dazai often teased Akutagawa about it, saying it matched his grim outlook on life. The rest of the Mafia members didn't pay much attention, except for Chuuya, who found their monochromatic style distressingly dull.
One sultry summer morning, Mori Ougai, the leader of the Port Mafia, summoned Akutagawa, Gin, and Chuuya to his office. His elegant desk was cluttered with paperwork, and the room was thick with the scent of polished wood and aged leather. Mori looked at them with a mix of amusement and concern.
"Akutagawa, Gin," Mori began, his eyes glinting mischievously. "I have noticed that your wardrobe is severely lacking in variety. While I appreciate the uniformity, I think it's high time you added some colour to your lives."
Akutagawa frowned, his dark eyes narrowing. "Sir, our clothing is practical and—"
"And dreadfully boring," Mori interrupted. "From now on, you are not allowed to go shopping on your own. You will be accompanied by someone with a more... refined sense of fashion."
Akutagawa's scowl deepened, but he remained silent. Gin, standing quietly beside her brother, tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable but curious. Chuuya, who had been leaning nonchalantly against the wall, straightened up, a grin spreading across his face.
"Looks like I've been volunteered for the job," Chuuya said, tipping his hat.
"Indeed," Mori confirmed. "Chuuya, you have a good eye for fashion. Make sure they come back with something other than black."
Chuuya's grin widened. "Consider it done."
The next day, Chuuya met Akutagawa and Gin at the base of the Port Mafia's headquarters. The sun was bright, casting long shadows on the pavement. Chuuya was impeccably dressed in a stylish, tailored suit, his auburn hair gleaming in the sunlight. Akutagawa and Gin, in stark contrast, were clad in their usual black attire.
"We're going to Ginza," Chuuya announced, his voice brimming with enthusiasm. "It's time you two learned that the world isn't just shades of black and grey."
The siblings exchanged a glance but followed Chuuya without protest. Ginza was a bustling district, known for its high-end boutiques and vibrant atmosphere. As they walked through the crowded streets, Chuuya pointed out various stores, explaining the nuances of different fabrics and styles.
Their first stop was a chic boutique with large glass windows displaying mannequins dressed in the latest fashions. The interior was a symphony of colours and textures, from soft pastels to bold prints. Chuuya guided them inside, greeting the staff with a familiarity that spoke of frequent visits.
"Alright," Chuuya said, turning to face them. "Let's start with something simple. No black."
Akutagawa sighed, but Gin seemed more intrigued than annoyed. Chuuya began selecting items from the racks, holding them up for inspection. He picked out a deep burgundy shirt for Akutagawa and a soft lavender dress for Gin.
"Try these on," he instructed.
Reluctantly, Akutagawa and Gin made their way to the changing rooms. Chuuya waited outside, tapping his foot impatiently. When they emerged, he couldn't help but smile. The rich burgundy of Akutagawa's shirt complemented his pale complexion, and the lavender dress brought out a softness in Gin's features.
"See?" Chuuya said, his tone triumphant. "Colour suits you both. So, instead of wearing black all the time, add a splash of colour in it!"
Akutagawa looked at his reflection in the mirror, a hint of surprise in his eyes. Gin smoothed the fabric of the dress, a small smile playing on her lips. Chuuya took this as a sign of victory and continued his mission with renewed vigour.
They spent the rest of the day moving from one boutique to another. Chuuya insisted on a variety of colours and styles, making sure each piece highlighted their strengths. He picked out a forest green jacket for Akutagawa that added a touch of elegance to his usual brooding demeanour and a soft blue blouse for Gin that accentuated her grace.
By the end of the shopping trip, Akutagawa and Gin had acquired an array of clothing in hues they had never considered before. Chuuya, satisfied with his efforts, treated them to dinner at a high-end restaurant to celebrate their new wardrobes.
As they sat at the table, enjoying a meal that was as colourful as their new clothes, Chuuya raised his glass.
"To new beginnings and brighter wardrobes," he toasted.
Akutagawa and Gin clinked their glasses with his, a rare moment of camaraderie among them. The sun had set, casting a golden glow over Ginza, and for the first time, Akutagawa and Gin felt a sense of warmth that went beyond their clothing.
From that day on, the members of the Port Mafia noticed a subtle change in Akutagawa and Gin. While they still favored darker hues, there were now splashes of colour that spoke of a newfound appreciation for variety. And whenever someone asked about their change in style, they would simply smile and say, "Chuuya's influence."
In the end, it wasn't just about the clothes. It was about embracing change and finding beauty in the unexpected. And in that sense, Chuuya had succeeded beyond anyone's expectations.
