    Adam wakes with that familiar pounding in his head. It’s been like this for god knows how long. He wakes to the same sensations: An ache in his head, deep enough to rock the foundations of his skull; a lack of all sight, unaware of when his eyes are open or closed; and pain so intense all over his body that the only feeling that he has left to feel is numb.

    It’s been like this ever since the bathroom door shut; ever since Lawrence left.
