The only sound that could be heard in the apartment was Red’s keys jingling as he opened the front door. Stumbling in, he made an effort to lock the door quietly so as to not disturb Blue. Last time he came home this drunk, Blue had woken up by how loud he was and berated him for causing such a ruckus. Red couldn’t remember shit about what Blue lectured him about that night, but he did know he didn’t want to hear his annoying yapping for an hour straight again.
Red began tiptoeing to his bedroom as he let his eyes adjust to the darkness. Suddenly, he spotted a black mass on the couch. He stared at it for a while to determine what it was.
Eventually, he made out the sleeping figures of Blue and Lord Tourettes, cuddling each other on the couch. LT lay atop Blue, his arms wrapped around him lightly, while Blue had one hand on the other’s lower back and one drifting off the side of the couch. LT’s hat lay at the top of the couch. On the coffee table, Red identified two almost empty wine glasses and a remote. He assumed that they had fallen asleep while watching some movie, and that Tourettes probably bought the wine, seeing as how Blue could never afford the good kind.
Red huffed to himself and saltily walked to his room. Even though he knew Blue was in an open relationship with him and LT, it seemed like all Blue could talk about now was just LT. Sure, the pair had just started seeing each other about two weeks ago, but Red could never get past a single conversation with Blue without it turning into him explaining his plans with the bard and how cute he was. At first, Red humored him, chuckling awkwardly whenever Blue told him about the time Lord Tourettes played his lute for him, or the time they went roller skating and Blue couldn’t stop falling on his face. When he started doing it every day though, Red just gave up.
Laying on his bed and staring at the ceiling, Red sighed. He knew he shouldn’t be jealous of LT. After all, they were still friends. But how could he not be when he was getting all the love in this relationship? It felt like Blue forgot he was dating another person.
Red would never openly admit this to Blue, though. Being in a serious relationship that wasn’t just a one night stand was pretty new to him, and he wanted to do anything and everything to avoid messing it up. Telling Blue about his feelings was nerve racking, and there was a possibility that Blue would take his complaints as a sign that he wasn’t ready for the real deal. A shiver went down Red’s spine at the thought.
No, they’d get over this stupid honeymoon phase on their own. Then he would get the attention he so rightfully deserved.
Red groggily turned his head to face the clock on his nightstand. The numbers 3:45 were displayed on the tiny screen. The man rubbed his face and groaned, knowing he wasn’t getting any sleep tonight.
Then, he remembered Blue and LT’s glasses. How they still had a little bit of wine in them.
Why not finish them off? Red thought to himself as he sat his already intoxicated body up. Not fair to let good wine go to waste.
Opening his door slowly, Red crept out of his bedroom. Upon reaching the coffee table, he kneeled down and grabbed one of the glasses, holding it to his mouth and shaking it slightly so the liquid would come down sooner. He swallowed it as soon as it reached his tongue.
The wine tasted strongly fruity and was slightly sweet, creating a delectable taste in Red’s mouth. He hoped they still had some of it left in the bottle, because holy fuck that was the best drink he’d ever had.
Red reached for the second glass, shaking it over his mouth and gulping it down. Satisfied, he began wiping his mouth on the back of his hand.
“Red?”
The man froze, staring fearfully at the couch. His eyes adjusted as he saw Blue looking back at him.
“Fuck are you doing?” The older man asked tiredly.
“...Nothing.”
Blue sighed and held his free arm out, his hand grabbing at the air. Red tilted his head and stared, confused at what he was doing.
“C’mere.”
Red blinked, finally understanding what his partner wanted. Red stood up and stepped to the couch, awkwardly laying next to Blue as he put half his body weight on the coffee table to avoid touching LT. The shorter stick was extremely grateful for the darkness covering his blush as he felt Blue place a hand on his waist.
“You drunk?” Blue asked with a yawn.
“Mmm.”
Blue exhaled through his nose as he smirked. “You smell like it.”
“Did you guys watch a movie?” Red inquired as he fidgeted with his hands.
“Yeah.”
“What movie?”
“Pacific Rim.”
Looking around the room, Red kept fidgeting as a feeling of affection and shame coursed through him. He was intruding on LT and Blue’s time, and he really didn’t want LT getting pissed at him when he woke up in the morning. Though Red lived for Blue’s touch (it was the only thing he craved when he and LT were out), he knew right now that Blue mostly wanted Lord Tourettes, and he was fine with that. He’d get Blue back to himself eventually.
“I-I can go now,” Red started as he let go of Blue, sliding more onto the coffee table. The man stopped as he felt Blue’s hand gently grasp his wrist.
“You can stay if you want,” Blue said.
Red shook his head. “Nah, nah, don’t wanna intrude.”
“You’re not intruding on shit, Red, it's fine.”
“But like, it’s your guys’ date, not mine.
“So?” Blue pulled him closer. “You’re dating me too.”
Red’s face flushed as he stared at Blue, hoping the darkness concealed his stupid face. He bit the inside of his cheek nervously.
“Yeah, but I mean, you guys have been hanging out more and shit…”
Blue’s eyebrows raised, not that Red could see them. The man sighed. “Red, I love you both .”
“I know,” Red responded as he fidgeted with the back of his cap.
“It didn’t seem like you did, dumbass.”
“Yeah well, you’re not really good at showing it.”
Blue chuckled quietly, being mindful to not wake up the sleeping LT on top of him. “Alright, alright. I can try and think of a date idea for all three of us soon, how does that sound?”
“Fine by me.” Red let a small smile slip.
“Then get back in here.” Blue gently pulled Red back onto the couch, to which Red happily obliged. Laying part of himself on the coffee table, Red snaked his arms around Blue and nuzzled him slightly. Blue smiled as he grabbed Red’s cap and sat it on the arm of the couch.
“Night, dumbass.” Blue returned his hand to Red’s waist.
“Night, fuckface.”
That night, Red went to sleep smiling to himself as he held Blue, not minding the green figure with them much anymore.
