Work Text:

The gentle sun casted warm rays of light through Lord Tourettes’ window, the bard laying on his couch while reading a book. His cozy forest home was often a place of bliss for him, with the only noises surrounding the property consisting of leaves blowing in the wind or the occasional deer prancing along the grass. Heck, ever since he started dating Blue, the pair would often have dates at his humble abode, solely because of the calming atmosphere and larger space. Sure, they’d sometimes hang at Blue’s apartment, but not as often as LT’s house, since his loud roommate would almost always butt in on their time together. Tourettes didn’t really mind it though, he only cared about being with his love.

LT’s head rose to the sound of his phone ringing. He had only bought the thing so he could contact his friends and mutuals, and didn’t use it often. And when he did, it was usually just so he could call Blue and talk about plans for their dates. So it surprised him to see Red’s number on the top of the screen.

Picking up the phone, he answered the call.

“Helloooo?” LT greeted in his usual cheery demeanor.

“Hey, your boyfriend needs you,” Red replied casually.

LT’s eyes widened. “ Needs me? What FUCKING for?” The musician adjusted their position on the couch as they talked, laying down on his stomach as his hand held up his head.

“He’s in one of his funks again.”

“What type of FUCK ?”

LT could hear Red groan on the other side of the phone. “I dunno man, it's a depression thing. Sometimes he’ll just get all moody for a week straight, and he barely eats or drinks. Dude practically rots in his bed when he’s like this.”

Concern grew inside the lute player as they chewed on the inside of their mouth. They were aware Blue struggled with depression among other things, but he never thought it could get that bad.

“So… why’d you call me?”

“So you could get him out of it. I’ve heard it's good to talk to people n’ shit when you’re depressed, but Blue just tells me to fuck off every time I try to do that. Plus you’re better at all this sappy shit than me.”

LT paused as he felt his cheeks heat up slightly. Sure, he was decent at dealing with other people’s emotions (or at least better than Red), and he did want to make sure his boyfriend was okay. But at the same time, they had never experienced depression, let alone helped someone who was dealing with it. The main concern he had was going over there and making things worse for Blue. Then again, their boyfriend rotting away in bed for a week filled him with worry, making them desperately want to check up on him.  LT sighed through the phone.

“Alright, I’ll be there as soon as I can BITCH .”

“K.”

As Red hung up, LT lifted himself from his couch and grabbed his door keys, beginning his trek towards Red and Blue’s apartment.

   +~----~+

LT caught his breath as he knocked on the apartment door. He didn’t own a car, so he had to walk all the way from his home to Red and Blue’s, which was a decent distance away. Thankfully this was one of the only occasions where the elevator in the apartment complex was actually working, so Tourettes just rode it up to his friend’s floor as he heaved in exhaustion.

The short bard was still attempting to make his breathing return to normal when Red opened the door.

“Hey, Tourettes. You look like shit.”

“I walked here…”

Red furrowed his brows. “Why the hell didn’t you take the bus?”

“There’s a FUCKING bus?”

“Nevermind. Just get in here.”

Red locked the door behind him as Lord Tourettes stepped into the small apartment.

“Where’s bluebird?” LT asked, Red snickering at the nickname.

“He’s in his room.” Red pointed to a door down the hall.

LT began his descent to his lover’s room, sidestepping an old pizza box presumably left by Red. They stopped at the door to Blue’s room, a place he had visited frequently. Now, the room seemed to have a much different aura, one that made Tourettes tense. Nonetheless, he hesitantly knocked on the door.

The poet pressed his ear to the door as they heard a low groan emitting from somewhere in the room.

“Go away, Red…” Blue’s voice sounded low and emotionless.

“Is that the way you talk to your boyfriend?”

Small noises that sounded like shuffling bed sheets could be heard, as well as a quiet “ Shit .”

“LT, babe, sorry…”

“It's alright. Red told me you were feeling like HELL so I came to check on you.”

“You didn’t have to do that…”

“I wanted to.”

Silence washed over them both.

“...Can I come in?” LT fidgeted with their fingers as they waited for a response.

“Fine…”

With a slight smile, LT opened the door slowly as it gave a long creak. Blue’s room was almost pitch black, save for the sparse light coming through the closed curtains. Closing the door behind him, LT spotted Blue on his bed, pathetically buried under his sheets and blankets with his head turned to the wall.

“Hey, bluebird.” Lord Tourettes said gently as he sat on the edge of the bed. Blue gave out a low groan in response.

“What’s got you FUCKING down?” LT asked, choosing to sit crisscrossed beside him. Blue groaned as he rubbed his eyes with his hand.

“I don’t know, LT, I just get like this sometimes…” Blue sat up and faced his partner, Tourettes’ eyebrows furrowing once he saw his face. Large bags lay under Blue’s eyes, along with faint tear stains that coated his cheeks. LT had never seen him this bad before.

“You look awful…” LT cupped Blue’s cheek with his hand, gently wiping the dry tears away.

“I know,” Blue replied with a deadpan expression, clearly taking LT’s concern as an insult.

“I didn’t FUCKING mean it like that, I’m just worried for you…”

Blue flinched as LT practically yelled in his face, but quickly composed himself.

“I know…” He sighed.

Suddenly, Blue felt his breath hitch as LT connected both their lips seamlessly into a kiss. The man immediately melted from the contact, placing a hand to his boyfriend’s cheek as he pulled him closer.

Oddly enough, Blue could feel small tears pricking the corners of his eyes. He hadn’t been in contact with anyone since his episode started, making him incredibly touch starved  (something that he wouldn’t admit). It was like LT broke a dam Blue had been building over the past week, letting him release all his messy, complex emotions. Being with him after so long made his negative and depressive thoughts evaporate immediately, even if only for a moment.

Tourettes pulled his lips away once he tasted something strange and salty. The bard shifted his gaze to Blue, immediately realizing what the substance was.

Tears rolled down Blue’s face as he wordlessly stared at LT, looking as shocked as his boyfriend at the fact he was crying.

LT pulled Blue into a tight hug, leaving the other surprised at the extra touch. The embrace was soon reciprocated as Blue allowed himself to sob, burying his face in Lord Tourettes’ shoulder. LT was quick to utter soft words of comfort to their significant other.

After a few minutes of Blue’s sobbing, he managed to calm himself down a bit, mostly because of his partner’s words and hold on him.

“There you go,” LT said gently, rubbing the lower half of Blue’s back. “You’re okay…”

“I know…” Blue hiccuped. “I know it gets better, it always does…” He let the last of his tears roll down his face. “The hardest part is just waiting for it to get like that…”

“Well,” Tourettes undid himself from the hug, his eyes fixed on Blue’s as he wiped the remnants of his tears. “Maybe I can help speed up the SHITTY process.”

A small chuckle came out of Blue’s mouth as he held LT’s hand. “I think you already did…”

LT smiled as he brought his face closer to Blue, initiating another kiss. Just like before, Blue sank into it, letting nothing but the thought of his boyfriend’s lips cloud his mind.

Blue knew for sure that after Lord Tourettes would leave, he would become saddened again. He would feel alone. His unpleasant thoughts would return. But he didn’t care. Right now, he just wanted to feel the love of his life next to him, depression be damned.

His episodes were long and tough to get through, but at least he had LT to make it that little bit better.
