Tin Soldiers

Summary:

Somehow it all hurts more than the bite of the anchor to know she is his greatest enemy, but it gives her hope too. Hope that if she can peel away the layers and kiss the skin above his heart, it might beat in time with his broken creation.

Work Text:

As she crests the final hill, she’s terrified that she will not recognize him, that this love once overflowing inside will not be enough to wash away what has happened. But when she sees him again, truly sees, it is confusion that strikes her instead. He’s wearing full armor and she wonders what a man who can turn someone to stone with a blink of an eye fears. When he backs away from her, gaze cast down from her chastisements, she knows.

It is her.

This god who rends worlds is afraid of her mortal touch so much he has encased himself in metal to ward it away. Somehow it all hurts more than the bite of the anchor to know she is his greatest enemy, but it gives her hope too. Hope that if she can peel away the layers and kiss the skin above his heart, it might beat in time with his broken creation.

For now, she looks upon his armor and pictures it building inside. She will be soft on the outside, gentle words and gentle actions to remind him how fading things can be strong, but she will harden her heart so it may never waver from this path again. From him. No matter what, she will not give up until they are both unafraid. For she fears only one thing: a world without him.
