this is a prologue chapter , just to give some backstory . It is highly reccomended to read this prologue
A dark gloomy night, out in the battlefield. With the war against humanity and corruption, the bloodshed begins to increase each and every time. Death after death. Body after body. Even with the sheer willpower from the humans, they’re lacking in power. They've lost too much in this war. At this point, they should be surrendering or retreating…but one person changed all of it.
Toya: “no…i must help them! I can’t let our actions go to waste!”
Akito : “hey! Where the hell are you going ?! Im going with you !”
Toya: “no Akito ! As your master , I command you to stay back with the others !”
“…i cant risk losing you….”
Akito : “toya… tsk! Fine !”
“don’t die on me…Toya…”
“please…”
The onmyoji runs to the front line, by himself. The enemies soon realize that something is wrong. Why doesn't the almighty exorcist have his shikigami? Where is his partner? Nevertheless, they steal the chance and try to go after him. Of course, he’s not weak. He defeats the easy ones and goes straight for the main leader.
“i won’t let you do this to us !”
He dashes forward, grabbing a paper sigil out of his sleeve…the enemy froze. Catching them off guard, he begins his next assault. Except…it's different this time?
A dagger? No , a holy weapon. Sacred artifacts made to be sealed away. So, why does he have that on him ? He quickly grabs the dagger into position and stabs the enemy leader right in the core of its heart. He mutters
“please let this work…”
A bright light appears and shoots into the sky. It alarms both sides of the war. Including his partner, Akito.
Akito: “ ?! Toya !?”
“no…no ! This can’t be happening !!”
Disregarding his orders, the shikigami immediately runs to the action. Dashing through everyone, leaving the others behind.
“ Toya !!!”
It's already too late. The dagger had taken his blood and lifespan in order to activate its powers. The sacred dagger had already taken both lives. The enemy and the user itself. Aoyagi Toya, the holy onmyoji, destined to save the world from its evil clutch, has sacrificed his own life to save others, and his partner.
Aoyagi Toya falls behind and lands on his back with the dagger in hand. His breathing is shallow. There’s a reason why it was supposed to be sealed…
Toya: “ akito…what are you doing here ?!”
Akito : “dammit! I should’ve known you would have done this! Toya please stay awake!”
“We still have time! We have to help you, toya !”
Toya laughs with the amount of strength he has left.
“akito…”
Akito : “what ?! Dont waste your breath !”
Toya: “akito…im done for. I only have a few minutes left…”
“i need you to run. Run back to the others and defeat the leftover enemies.”
Akito : “what…?”
Toya: “akito ! Run !”
Akito: “no ! Please !”
“toya..let me stay, please! Just for a bit longer…”
Toya sighs, knowing that Akito won’t ever budge no matter what command is given to him. He never listened to Toya, he sure as hell won't listen to him now. Akito bends down to hug Toya , his body is getting colder and colder.
“why would you do this…? Why?! “
Akito is holding back what tears he has left. He hasn't felt this way in a while. Toya could easily hear the sniffles from his partner.
Toya: “akito…”
Akito: “…what is it now”
Toya: “i'm sorry I couldn't be here for longer. And i'm sorry i couldn't protect you more. I'm sorry—“
Akito: “idiot don't apologize ! Apologies will only make it worse… “
“toya please…just stay here with me.”
Toya: “you know its too late for that akito…”
Akito: “don't say that! Please…”
Toya smiles.
“Akito Shinonome.”
Akito is a bit shocked by that statement. Its been a while since toya called him that.
“i love you…”
Akito: “…what ?”
Before Akito had any time to respond, Aoyagi Toya’s heart beat dropped. His body, now fully cold. Eyes closed. And his breathing… no longer there.
Aoyagi Toya is officially dead.
“no !”
Akito shakes his cold, lifeless body.
“no ! Don't leave me here ! You know I cant function without you !!”
“please !!! Wake up !”
Not a single response.
“toya wake up ! Wake up dammit, wake up !”
“open your eyes ! Talk to me ! Tell me everything’s fine ! Please just anything !”
“please…partner”
“partner please ! Wake up !
“wake up ! wake up !”
“partner ! Wake up !!!”
“WAKE UP !!!”
