   Summary

   Even as he died, Itadori smiled. Megumi stared vacantly as his friend fell, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth, from the gaping hole in his chest. It did not surprise him that even in that moment Itadori’s face was illuminated by that smile. And in any other context, it would have been enough to warm Megumi starting from his heart outwards, no matter how unwilling he was to admit that.

   Because Itadori’s smile was a sunbeam, he had never before understood the idea of someone smiling bright enough to light up a room, not even when Tsumiki was still awake. Even with how much he missed his sister’s smile, Megumi knew that it could not rival the way that Itadori shone a beacon into his darkest desperations with a simple grin. A smile that felt foreign, wrong. Because Itadori was smiling, but he was on the floor, his eyes open vacantly, his chest still.
