Work Text:

After the whole secret saga between Mizuki and Ena, leading to an inevitable romantic confession between the two, Ena suggested that they should go on a date to the mall in order to adjust to their newfound relationship just a few days after.

Which is where that led the two of them. They had been shopping for a while, planning to stop by a cafe if they felt like it.

“Alright Enanan, where to next?” The pair had just finished shopping at a shop the two liked to frequent. Ena stopped to think for a moment before quickly remembering an idea she had.

“Hmm, can we stop by the jewelry store? There’s something I wanted to check out.” Mizuki was a bit confused considering that if Ena wanted a new necklace or pair of earrings, they could’ve gone to a cheaper store, but didn’t question it and just agreed.

“Okay! Let’s go!” They took Ena’s hand and started walking towards the direction of the jewelry store. Heat rose onto Ena’s cheeks at the sudden contact before quickly letting out a small laugh as she got dragged along by Mizuki.

They reached their destination and parted hands as Ena went to check one side of the store whilst Mizuki checked the other. Mizuki found a few necklaces and earrings they were interested in, although the price was a bit more pricey considering they were in a proper jewelry store and not some cheaper place selling knocked down versions.

Ena, on the other hand, was looking at a few rings. A few of them were basic gold or silver rings with a few designs here and there; some were engagement rings; and others were really expensive looking ones.

A pair of rings caught Ena’s eye: they were simple with small hearts decorated on the sides, but Ena felt like that was perfect.

“Mizuki! Come over here.” Ena called over. Mizuki turned to look over at Ena, confused but obliged anyway and walked up to her.

“Enanan? What’s up?” They hummed, standing behind Ena before moving closer to her side instead.

“Look at these rings!” Ena took the pair of rings and placed them in the palm of her hand to show it closer to Mizuki.

“Oh! They’re really cute!” Mizuki’s eyes shone with excitement as they looked at the pair of rings, Ena knew it was a great pick.

“Right?” Ena said, happily agreeing with Mizuki before her expression changed into a more embarrassed one as her face grew red. “But, uh… do you possibly-… want to get them with me?”

“Huh?” Mizuki could feel a blush creeping up on their cheeks at the implications of that.

“You know! Like uh… promise rings!” There was a panic in Ena’s voice that Mizuki would find endearing if not for the confusion they were feeling. They tilted their head to emphasize on how confused they were, in which they could see Ena’s face turning even redder.

“Uh..you know like… how I..promised to stay with you forever…” Ena felt like exploding when she heard Mizuki’s airy yet nervous laughter fill her ears.

“Promise rings of staying together forever? That sounds a lot like a marriage proposal. Are you proposing to me Enanan?” Their voice had a teasing lilt to it as they wore a smirk on their face.

Ena stayed silent and suddenly Mizuki felt their composure falling apart.

“Enanan….?”

Ena sighed before looking off to the side, blush evident on her cheeks. “I mean if you’ll have me…”

“Ah…” Mizuki wasn’t expecting that at all. The blush that had disappeared returned and Mizuki was suddenly very nervous.

The two stayed like that for a while before Ena decided to break the silence, looking back at them. “…So, what’s your choice?”

Mizuki froze as they weighed out their choices. Whilst saying yes would be like accepting a proposal, they weren’t sure if they were quite ready for it, but Ena was still here with them after learning their secret. So maybe… it would be worth it, after all, a future with Ena was the best thing that they could wish for.

“Sure.” It was hesitant but the way Ena smiled at them so sweetly and earnestly after they accepted made them feel like they really made the right choice.

“Let’s go buy these together then.” Mizuki nodded before following Ena towards the cashier, where they split the bill to make the financial impact easier on Ena’s wallet.

After successfully purchasing the rings, they decided to stop by a bench to put them on. Mizuki opened up one of the boxes and cautiously took out the ring, before using their other hand to take one of Ena’s.

“May I?” Mizuki said it with a tease which Ena blushed to, nevertheless she sighed before a small smile crept up onto her lips.

“You may.” Indulging in Mizuki’s stupid yet endearing remark, Mizuki laughed before carefully sliding the ring onto Ena’s ring finger: Ena suddenly felt quite flustered by all of this.

“This feels kinda embarrassing, don’t you think?” Ena stared at the ring on her finger, amazed at how exciting yet somewhat terrifying it felt.

“Well, you suggested it.” Mizuki affectionately hummed as they opened the other box and gave the other ring to Ena.

She sighed as she took it, along with her other hand grabbing Mizuki’s. She slid the ring onto their ring finger. She then held their hand, taking in the moment and what this could mean for their relationship and the future ahead of them.

Honestly speaking, Ena was really happy that Mizuki accepted to do it, she was just surprised with how easily they agreed to it but she guessed that was just evidence of them trusting her more and she couldn’t ask for anything better.

Whilst running through the thoughts still stuck in her head, Mizuki moved to grab Ena’s hand where she wore the ring, admiring the look of it and placing it beside their own.

“What are you doing?” Ena looked up at Mizuki who placed a kiss on her hand, making Ena’s face heat up slightly, before looking up, and giving Ena a warm and gentle smile.

“Nothing. I’m just happy you suggested this, it means a lot to me Ena.” Ena was taken aback by their honesty but accepted it all the same: she was happy that they were happy.

She returned the smile as she intertwined their fingers and squeezed their hand.

“Of course Mizuki. I wouldn’t wanna spend my time forever with anyone else.”
