Work Text:
Acquiesce - accept something reluctantly but without protest
Reluctantly, she acquiesced to their plan, saddened she would miss the rain but glad she didn’t have to see him.
Petrichor - the pleasant earthy smell after it rains after a long dry period
She loved every aspect that came with the rare rain, from the relaxing sound of the delicate drops of rain meeting the soil to the pleasant, almost addictive smell of petrichor.
Conjecture - an opinion or conclusion formed on incomplete information
She intrinsically believed she would always love the rain. Her conjecture shattered around her, the instant his mouth opened in a pained yet gentle grin, his hair drenched from the rain. She knew she had been wrong, as she hugged his bullet ridden body, her throat water-logged by the tears pouring from her eyes. So wrong, as he kissed her on the lips for the first and last time.
“I love you, I have always loved you. I’m sorry … that I didn’t say it sooner” he vowed gently. The rain had washed away her anger, ripped her of her despair and drowned her in her love for him.
“I love you. I wish we could smell the petrichor together.”
“I know, but the rain was beautiful while it lasted because I got to meet you.”
