Work Text:
When Tim first gets his metro office, Lucy waits for him outside the door. They usually get off at the same time save for a few times he has to work late. The office is small, and Lucy doesn’t want to crowd him so she waits outside the door for the first few weeks.
She likes watching Tim through the window, he’s usually bent over paperwork and unaware of her outside. She’s so proud of him, even in just the short few weeks that he has been on metro he has made a name for himself, he has become the leader she knew he always was.
Today however, the blinds are closed and she doesn’t hear any movement inside the office. She’s about to knock on the door when she hears footsteps behind her. She turns around to see Tim walking towards her, a handful of papers in his hands.
He looks up as he approaches the door, a smile spreading across his face when he sees her. “Hi.” He says softly. He reaches around her to open the door and steps next to pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.
“What are you doing?” He asks when he steps in. He turns around to face her.
“Just waiting for you.” She replies stepping forward a little bit. Tim smiles and walks into his office. She watches as he sits down behind his desk and then looks up frowning when he sees her still in the doorway.
“Are you going to come in?” He asks with raised eyebrows. She hesitates and then steps inside the office. She walks to the chair in front of his desk and sits down, watching him.
“Nice office.” She says looking around. He had decorated it a bit with some of his awards and a few posters. His desk is mainly empty, save for a desk calendar and a picture from that is facing away from her.
“It will do.” Tim says looking up and smiling at her. “I should be done in about 15 minutes.” Lucy nods and leans back in her seat. She watches Tim for a few more minutes, and then closes her eyes.
Tim is shaking her awake before she knows it and he’s looking down at her with the softest smile on his face.
“You ready?” He asks. She blinks up at him sleepily and he laughs and gently pulls her up, and tucks her into his side.
“Let’s go home.”

The next time Lucy finds herself in Tim’s office is when she’s waiting for him to finish up. He caught her earlier in the day and told her he would be out sooner than expected and that meant they could have date night. She steps inside the office and leans against the doorway, Tim looks up and gives her a soft smile. He walks over and gives her a soft kiss, and she loops her arms around his neck pulling him closer.
“Are you ready to go?” She asks. He nods and bends down to give her another kiss but doesn’t move for several seconds.
“Yeah.” He replies finally pressing a kiss to the top of her head and then backing away. “Just give me a few minutes.” She nods still smiling and watches as he goes back to his desk and pack a few things up before he’s heading back her way. She loops her arm in his and he leads them out the door. He stops halfway down the hallway and looks back towards his office.
“What’s wrong?” She asks. He looks down at her and then back down at his office.
“I forgot to turn off the lights.” He says. “Wait here.” She watches him hurry off towards his door, he disappears inside and then is out a few minutes later. She loops her arm in his again and this time they get to his truck.
He turns to her when she is settled in and smiles. “Ready?” He asks. She nods her head and thinks she will always be ready to follow Tim wherever he led her she would follow.

The next Lucy finds herself in Tim’s office is in the middle of the day, she brings him lunch and then settles down in the chair. He smiles at her gratefully, and carefully takes out the food from the bag.
“How’s your day going?” She asks him eyeing the paperwork on his desk. Lucy lets out a soft sigh and looks at it too before he’s picking up his burger.
“It’s fine.” He says. “Just a lot of paperwork.” Lucy smiles and puts her own burger down on the desk and leans forward to look at the paper. She knows this isn’t Tim’s favorite part of the job, having to sit down and do paperwork instead of being out on the streets but at least he got a nice little office away from everybody.
“I know the paperwork isn’t your favorite.” She says. He looks up at her and tilts his head a little.
“It’s not.” He agrees. “But it’s okay. At least I’m out of your chain of command and you didn’t have to move stations.”
Lucy nods and can’t help the smile that spreads across her face. That was another perk of Tim being in metro was the fact they could be together and Tim wasn’t stuck at a desk all the time. It was just part of the time.
“True.” She says and stands up a little so she can kiss him. It’s a little awkward and she’s practically on the desk but she loves that she can do this at anytime.
“I know I was upset about you going behind my back.” Tim says and Lucy ducks her head down a little remembering their argument on Valentine’s Day, remembering how mad he was at her.
“Tim—”
“I really appreciate that you did it Luce.” He says. “I wish you had looped me in a little but—”
“So you agree it did work out better this way?” She asks leaning back a little so she can look at him.
“Yes.” He says. He brushes some hair out of her face. “And the fact we have some privacy is a bonus.” Lucy giggles a little and leans in to kiss him again.
“Yeah.” She says smiling against his lips. She’s not sure she’s ever been this happy. “I agree that is very good.”
She sits back in her seat and admires Tim as he continues to eat. And leans back in her chair and picks her burger up again.
She could get used to this.

The next time Lucy finds herself in Tim’s office is after she has a bad day. It wasn’t necessary terrible, but it just felt like everything had been against her. And all she wants is to go home and cuddle up with Tim because that made her feel better in no time.
She gets to his office and knocks lightly before she’s pushing it open. Tim looks up and he smiles at her softly. He has probably heard about everything and probably was expecting her.
“Hi.” She says quietly. He stands up and comes to meet her in the middle of the room. He gathers her in a hug and rocks her back and forth it.
“Hi.” He mutters. “You good?” She sighs and buries her face into his chest.
“I’ve been better.” She admits. “Are you ready to go?” Tim pulls back and gives her a sympathetic smile. Her stomach drops a little bit, she knows what he’s going to say before he says it.
“I’m sorry baby.” He says softly pushing some hair out of her face. “I still have some work to do. You can go home.”
Lucy’s shoulders fall a little and she buries herself further into Tim, she should go home but she only wants to go home if Tim is with her. She shakes her head and looks up at him, blinking back the tears.
“I want to stay.” She mutters. Tim sighs a little but lets her go, placing a soft kiss to the top of her head.
“Okay. It will be awhile.” He warns. She shrugs her shoulders and goes to sit down in the chair. She grabs the sweater that’s tossed over the back of it and wraps herself in it. She hears Tim sit back down and the scratch of his pen against the paper and then—
Tim’s shaking her awake much like the first time she fell asleep in his office. She looks up at him and he pulls her up putting the sweater back on the chair and the tucking her into his side. They leave his office without another word.
When they get to Lucy’s apartment and settled down Tim just pulls her onto his lap and she settles down breathing him in. She feels her muscles relaxing and she feels Tim’s fingers combing through her hair.
She loves him.
He’s her person and she hopes she never loses him.
“Are you good now?” Tim asks as if he knows what’s going on in her mind. She cuddles more into him and smiles to herself.
“Yeah.” She whispers. “I’m good now.”

The next time Lucy finds herself in Tim’s office is after she hears on the radio that he got hurt. She rushes to his office because it’s the only place where she knows she can calm down. She paces the small room, her heart pounding and the panic growing more and more. They didn’t say exactly how hurt he was. Just that he was hurt and—
Oh god.
She can’t lose him.
She can’t lose him now, she’s not sure she would survive if she lost him.
She looks over at his desk and goes to where he usually sits, she sits down in his chair and looks at the picture on his desk.
It’s of her or rather of them and it’s one of their first pictures they took together as a couple. She had it as her lock screen for a long time. They are both smiling big and it just seems so natural. The fact that he has it on his desk—
“It’s a reminder of what I get to come home to.” A voice says from the doorway. Lucy looks up to see Tim leaning against the doorway. He looks a little beat up and there’s a nasty bruise on his cheek but—
Lucy jumps up and practically runs into his arms, burying herself in his shirt. “Oh my god.” She mutters. “Thank god.”
Tim rubs her back for a few seconds before he’s pulling back to look at her. “I’m okay Luce.” He mutters. “I’m okay.”
She doesn’t reply, she’s not sure she can even talk at the moment. She just hugs him tighter grateful that he’s okay and he’s here in her arms. He tightens his grip on her and buries his nose into her hair.
“I love you.” He mutters. She feels her heart pound as she takes a deep breath to reply.
“I love you too.” She says back and they just hold each other not saying a word and for right now that’s all she needs.

The next time Lucy is in Tim’s office is when she’s meeting him for date night once again. She is already dressed and she makes her way to his office and knocks on the door. She pushes it up to find Tim already gathering his stuff up.
“Hi.” She says. He jumps a little and turns around putting his hand behind his back. She raises her eyebrows a little.
“Hi.” He says quickly. “Is it time to go already?” She raises her eyebrows even more at him and wonders what he has behind his back.
“Yeah.” She replies. “Are you ready to go?” He doesn’t answer right away just shuffles his feet nervously.
“Are you okay?” She asks. He swallows hard but nods his head and walks closer to her, one arm still behind his back.
“Yes.” He says. “Uh what time is it?” She frowns a little at him, still not sure what to think of his behavior and checks her watch.
“5:45.” She answers. “Why?” Tim swallows again and takes her hand leading her to the middle of the office.
“Our reservation isn’t until 7.” He says. “And I can’t wait.”
“Can’t wait for—-” She stops talking when Tim lets go of her hand and gets on one knee. He pulls a small ring box out from behind his back and smiles up at her.
“I was going to do this at the restaurant but—” He opens the box and Lucy’s heart pounds her eyes full of tears because was this really happening?
“Lucy, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don’t think I tell you that enough but it’s true. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I—this office is where a lot of important stuff happened. And you are the reason I got this office. And it doesn’t—I just want you. I want to always be with you and have you meet me in here, I want to just be together and—” He pauses and ducks his head down. “I swear I had a more coherent speech planned out.” Lucy laughs a little wanting to tell him it was perfect.
He was perfect.
“It doesn’t matter—the point is, the point is will you marry me Lucy?” Lucy feels a tear run down her cheek and gets on her knees and cups his face with her hands.
“Yes Tim.” She whispers. “Yes I will marry you.” He smiles and slips the ring on her finger before he’s pulling her in to kiss him. She kisses him back and they don’t let up until they have to.
“I love you.” She mutters and leans her forehead against his. “This was perfect.” He smiles and he relaxes his shoulders a bit.
“I love you too Luce.” He mutters and pulls her up with him. She wraps her arms around his neck and then lays her head on his chest. He sways them back and forth it, and she sighs happily.
She couldn’t wait to marry Tim.
She couldn’t wait to spend the rest of her life with him.

The next time Lucy is in Tim’s office she’s not alone. She brings their six week year old daughter Isla in with her. She decided to surprise Tim on his first day back to work after being home with her Isla.
Lucy knocks on the door, Isla is strapped to her chest fast asleep unaware that she is about to make her dad very happy. Lucy pushes open the door and Tim is at his desk his head down as he scribbles something on a piece of paper. He doesn’t look up right away so Lucy waits for a few moments before she’s clearing her throat. Her husband looks up and his eyes widen a little when he sees her and then his eyes dart to the baby strapped to her and his face softens immediately like it always does around Isla. She’s only six weeks old but she has Tim wrapped around her little fingers already.
“Hi.” He says getting up and walking towards them. He kisses Lucy on the forehead and then looks at her expectantly. She rolls her eyes but maneuvers Isla out of the carrier and places her in Tim’s arms.
She opens her eyes a little bit but then they are instantly closing again. Tim is smiling down at her and Lucy is smiling at him.
“Are you having a good first day back?” She asks him. Tim nods his head still looking down at their daughter in awe.
“Now I am.” He mutters pressing a kiss to Isla’s head. Lucy smiles and moves so she can go sit down in the chair. Tim follows and sits back down with Isla still in his arms.
“You miss her huh?” Lucy asks. She couldn’t even imagine how Tim was feeling leaving Isla this morning. She still had a few weeks to go before she was back at work but she was already dreading it.
Tim nods and he finally looks up at her. “I miss you too.” He says. Lucy smiles as Isla smacks her lips a little but doesn’t wake.
“She’s perfect.” Tim mutters. Lucy laughs and settles back against the chair. Isla had been a pretty good, content baby. She fussed a little but that was only when she was out of Tim or Lucy’s arms (mainly Tim’s—she was a daddy’s girl already).
“She is.” Lucy agrees. “Until she has a blowout when we were driving.” Tim looks up at her and huffs out a laugh.
“I’m sorry Luce.” He says. He smoothes back Isla’s hair and bounces her a little. Lucy just shakes her head and smiles and watches the two most important people in her life. She sits back and admires her husband and daughter and she’s not sure how it could get better than this.
She looks at his desk and notices two frames now, she turns one around and then the other. One of them is them on their wedding day and the other is of Isla.
“Nice pictures.” She says. Tim barely looks up at her but she can see him smiling.
“My two favorite girls.” He mutters. Lucy just smiles at his statement knowing how true it is.
There’s a long comfortable silence and then Isla lets out a little cry and Lucy knows exactly what it is.
She stands up and Tim reluctantly hands her back to Lucy who puts her back in the carrier. She needs to be fed but she doesn’t want to do it in a place where anyone could walk in.
She slowly walks to the door with Tim behind her, she turns and kisses him holding him close. “Thanks for coming by.” He mutters. “Made my day much better.”
“Mmm.” Lucy says her eyes darting to his face. “Be honest who were you more happy to see me or Isla?”
“Isla.” He says without hesitation. Lucy rolls her eyes but there’s no heat to it. She would have the exact same answer. “But I love you too.”
Lucy laughs and pulls him down for a kiss before she’s pushing him back. “Get back to work and then come home to us.”
Tim salutes her and stands in the doorway as she walks away, she glances back to see him still watching her and she smiles to herself and kisses the top of Isla’s head.
Yeah his office was a pretty great place.
